Lol, I was the first place (current second place) speedrunner of the worst game of the decade. A little background. A viewer asked me to play the game for her birthday and even bought it for me. I had remembered that it was supposed to be bad but I played it for the lulz and I happened to notice that nearly 3 years after the game's release that there wasn't even a category for The Quiet Man meaning that all I had to do is beat the game and submit a request to create the category and I would be 1st automatically. I have lost my 1st and won it back once already and I can easily win it back again but I have only played the game 3 times and I'd really don't want to do it again. The Quiet Man speedrun is unique in that every single "speedrunner" uninstalled the moment they finished the game and almost every single person has played the game exactly once in the "blessed silence" catagory (without sound) and exactly twice if they posted a "Remumbled" run (the game with sound) which is exactly the number of times you need to play the game to achieve sound. Nobody practices the game, nobody enjoys it and without exception every single runner has uninstalled as soon as humanly possible. While it is my own personal hell as the supermod of The Quiet Man Speedrunning category that I need to validate entries I do at least get to pinpoint the moment the player's soul leaves his body if they have a face cam and I have seen some weird stuff happen because the game engine barely works and tends to start really struggling after the first hour or so and the camera just doesn't know what the hell to do at any given moment. The funniest part has to be that people keep playing this game and I am now akin to the king of hell watching in bemusement as my subjects torture themselves while thinking "how bad can it actually be?"

Make the player adapt to being deaf like an actual deaf person: give phonetical subtitles when reading lips, and only give each sign's litteral meaning when signing. Then the player gets to figure out the meaning themselves. That could have been really interesting. Especially since the story is quite generic, but not that bad imo.

The Quiet Man is an absolute trip. They wanted to create a story that transcends words, so they made a story where the characters speak but instead they eliminated sound almost entirely while muddling the rest. Including music. You know, that thing that can stir emotional resonance. The thing that can be used to accompany body language and facial expressions to tell a story without words. and then when the feedback they got was virtually universally panning, they just release the story ungarbled. You know, that story that was specially made with words in mind.

Yeah it is a trip. You know I went into it expecting to either laugh at how incompetently written it was, or groan at how much of a slog the gameplay was, but for the majority of the game's runtime, I just felt very anxious and almost scared at times. Seeing these characters interact and recite all this expository dialogue, seeing sudden and violent events occur seemingly out of nowhere with no explanation, all without any idea what in the world was going on because of the lack of sound, gave me this extreme sense of confusion and nervousness over what was going to happen next. I think there's a really abject sense of terror that people have when there's events going on around them and they don't have any sort of explanation or context as to what is happening and The Quiet Man managed to inadvertently tap into that terror, for me anyway. Dont get me wrong, its not a good game. The story, when you actually learn what it is from the answered version, is a jumbled, incoherent mess and the gameplay is just generic beat em up events copied and pasted as nauseam. But it really did get my anxiety going at times and I gotta give it credit for that

The thing that got me with The Quiet Man is,if the main character is deaf and yet there are scene where he's speaking, why isn't that subtitled? If he can read lips, why doesn't the lip reading have subtitles (subtitles that could have had cool effects applied depending on the lipreading, accent, etc). And I feel like a simple story transcends words, much the way it does in silent indie games like platformers and adventure games. Having this complex narrative about a guy in a bird mask feels like something where having someone say something might be really useful.

When you eliminate words, you have to compensate in order to elicit the reaction you desire. Which is where music comes into play, hence why it is used so frequently. It's so often used because it works, because we can immediately tie a connection to the scene and the desired emotion someone wants us to feel with a musical score (or lack of music in some cases).

My theory on why the locations in Rambo the video game actually look quite good; The devs are likely huge fans of Rambo, they also made 2019s Terminator: Resistance and it was suprisingly decent, and the locations in that game, especially the resistance bunker, look exactly like the one shown in the original Terminator film.

there is a vid by some creepypasta guy on how he explains whats wrong with yandere sim from a development perspective. i am an ongiong programmer and i cought up on my coffe when i heard the update method has more than 2000 lines. i wrote games in unity that didnt had 2000 lines in full, so how stupid can the dev be? i mean, self learning all good, but he is just refusing to get good at his work. he broke his partnership with an experienced programmer because the guy straight up rewrote his shitpile of code to something working, but yandev "couldnt understand it" so he broke up and got on with his crappile. makes me angry thinking about that kind of idiots (but i quickly realized many software-companies work like that, including Microsoft)

I can't help but notice that when 3DRealms made a prequel to Bombshell, they deliberately ignored Bombshell. In the prequel Ion Fury (aka Ion Maiden) Shelly doesn't get her arm blown off, doesn't leave the police, and doesn't have any foreshadowing with her long-lost sister. Yes, kane and lynch 2 had completely inaccurate guns and a unique camera. but the levels are really cool and the story is actually super gritty and brutal. But the best part about the game is that it was a co-op 3rd person shooter on pc which is surprisingly rare for whatever reason. I had so much fun with this game playing with my friends even throughout all its flaws. The game is meant to be played with a friend.

The reason why the guns were inaccurate was because it was one of the only ways to make the gameplay actually hard since the game was trying to be somewhat realistic. As for the camera, I actually thought it was one of the cooler features the game had. It was meant to be a "documentary style" camera that shook when you ran. For me, it made the game a lot more immersive. I do agree though that the story ends way too quickly, otherwise I really had a lot of fun with it.

IIRC the reason that the aliens IA in A:CM is so bad is because of a TYPO. At one point in the code, someone wrote "teather" instead of "tether", and this caused the IA to basically do 0 smart moves or try to stalk you like an actual xenomorph. Instead, the game ignores the code with the typo, making the aliens have zero smart movement options and opting for the default running to the player in a straight line at full speed and ignore all danger or teammates. Saw some clips of the fixed IA and was actually kind of impressed with what they could do, but it still doesn't justify buying the game, considering all the other problems it has.

Honestly the worst part about the Ibn Battuta game is how it honestly bastardized what the actual man did. Ibn Battuta was and still is an EXTREMELY important scholar and explorer of his time. His discoveries were incredible, and his accounts are highly detailed, giving us a look into many areas that would otherwise be rarely acknowledged or even known about in the detail we have thanks to Battuta.

Colonial Marines wasn't Sega's fault. They paid Gearbox to make a game, and Gearbox used the money to make Borderlands 2. Never forget that the reason Borderlands 2 was so good was because it turns out Gearbox used a large chunk of Colonial Marines' funding. They stole its personnel and budget, lying to Sony about the production the whole way through. Imagine paying for a contractor and its staff to build a house as best they can in a set amount of time, but they siphon away most of the builders to build their own project, don't tell you, *and still charge you for the employees they're using.* Are we really surprised that Colonial Marines ended up being a shed with a couch in it instead of a three bedroom house?

Call of Juarez is so bad at portraying the actual drug war with thousands of casualties going on to this day that I threw out the disc after 3 hours of play like 7 years ago. The sex trafficking part is so misrepresented that this game can be a lesson for designers wanting to make a game exploring real-world topics. This undermines the deaths of thousands of people and real suffering that goes on to this day so bad that the gameplay is one of the last things you should focus on. I would literally buy a 9/11 simulator just to know that it can be more historically accurate.
