If you were around in the 1980s, you probably had Ljn toys but didn't know it. They were the ones that put out the first WWF figures, also Gremlins figures and most famously, Thundercats!! While their action figures were really good, their video games, as seen here left everything to be desired. Their Friday the 13th & Nightmare on Elm Street games both have a cult following of sorts, though, toy companies even have made action figures based on their versions of Freddy & Jason, so that's something.

Oh man, Bill & Ted.... I had that game when I was around 8 or so and I just could NOT grasp what you were suppose to do in the game. By some miracle one time I made it to the next area but it was pure dumb luck. Fast forward 20 years and I recently played an emulated version of it for nostalgic reasons. Also I figured "Hey, I'm older now, I'll be able to figure out how to get through the game that had stumped me in my childhood", but I was wrong. Not only are there zero instructions on what you are suppose to do but you have to find clues by JUMPING INTO BUSHES AND FENCES. Seriously, and there's plenty of them in every level. The fact that you can't walk on grass fucks you up in the game way more than this video lets on since most of the clues are off the road and you have to jump all the way to them without walking. Just an absolutely terrible, terrible, horrendous game. Here's AVGN's review on it if you want to see a more in-depth video for one of the worst games of all time: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3KYc2ucjdVjl7c

Actually from 1995 to 2000, Acclaim owned the remnants of LJN. LJN was basically a toy company who attempted to ride on the return of the video game craze after Nintendo revived it. Most of the titles were not written by LJN, mostly by publishers overseas. LJN was more a "slap our name on it and publish" business who had no real knowledge of video games or what worked. Its the old "if it makes a few bucks, grab the rights and sell it" quality be damned.

Watching this video I can only conclude that the people at +WatchMojo.com never actually played either Friday the 13th or Jaws as they were actually great games. (Jaws was BY FAR superior to Friday the 13th but in comparrison to other LJN games even Friday the 13th was a top notch) .Jaws especially it was an amazingly acccurate recreation of the movie, for the time period it was about as accurate as you could get in the 8 bit era, had a ton of tension, ans was difficult as anything else in its generation without being cheap about it. I think you NEED to rethink at LEAST the Jaws entry, +WatchMojo.com, an maybe actually try it this time before you pan it.
@LUCKO20228 жыл бұрын
+kopitarrules I disagree with Jaws being being superior to Friday the 13th but I agree that most of their games get a bad rap thanks to AVGN ripping on them (most people don't get that it's comedy, not James actual opinion).

CF-105 Games Hey to each his own as far as which one is better. The one thing I liked most in both games is that they are good at building tension. I love they use sound. It's meant to be a warning that the big bad is coming or near and it translates so well into an "oh shite I need to find my way out of here fast" kind of moment. I also played both these games upon release, and they both rank among my personal top 20 NES titles of all time. Jaws is about number 4 or 5 and Friday the 13th is about 11 or 12). I haven't gone back to play them in a while as my NES toasterized on my about 10 years ago and I haven't had the coin to replace it yet. I may have to resort to >.>

Most of the time I play on my top loader (the official one, not junk ass clones although I have a couple of those thanks to people giving me them as presents. I usually keep those around for others to play on at my place as I baby my top loader).

CF-105 Games No idea what any of that meant >.< there are different kinds of NES machines now? I only ever saw the one. Top Loader? huh? As for what was wrong with it I honestly have no idea it stopped recognizing the cartridges. First it stopped recognizing my gold cartridges (Micro machines etc etc ) then My dragon warrior ones, Then Final Fantasy, Then everything. Then it stopped turning on at all. I am fairly certain it got tossed into the garbage in one of the (no joke/exaggeration) 17 moves I have had since it died. Like I say I am not even sure I still have my original carts anywhere (Much was lost, sad times) I do intend to rebuild, it's just things like this tend to be hella expensive off of ebay. Now that I am settled I will start going to flea markets again and see if I can regain a NES and some games as well as a SNES and some games. Until then I may have to resort to more nefarious methods to play games I love. :(

The situation with "Spirit of Speed" was even worse than you think. By the time the game came out, Acclaim had discontinued the LJN brand. They apparently resurrected it for that one title when they saw how bad it was.
@Appleboy781657 жыл бұрын
Fun fact: prior to that Dreamcast game's release, the LJN brand had been defunct for five years. Acclaim decided to bring it back just for that game.

Back to the Future 2 & 3 was a much worse game than the first NES game. Even though BttF was repetitive and silly, 2&3 was confusing, boring, and altogether asinine.

Are you fucking kidding me? That's what I said when I saw number 10. Spider-Man is a great game for the NES. I'll be watching and commenting on every entry as I watch: 10: Spider-Man: Return Of The Sinister Six - I played through this game on a rom and I had a blast. I was very surprised at how fun it is. The mechanics are impressive. Really great NES game. 9. Jaws - I've only played a little bit of this game before but what I found was that it was creative. You go around hunting for Jaws and you have multiple battles with him while scuba-diving and exploring. You have to strategize and work on taking him down. Seems pretty cool and legit to me. 8. Spirit Of Speed 1937 - I'll give you that one. I haven't played it, but it looks like your typical piece of shit bland boring driving/racing game of that era (in the 2000s). 7. Beetlejuice 6. Who Framed Roger Rabbit 5. The Uncanny X-Men 4. The Karate Kid I haven't played these yet, but they all seem to have a decent and clever premise. They look like they could go either way. 3. Terminator 2: Judgment Day - Played through this on a rom and its not bad. Pretty good for an NES game. And you said how bad T2 was for Genesis... fuck you, asshole. It's one of the best games I've played for the Genesis. It's wonderful. The NES version is a very downscaled version of the Genesis/SNES versions and still fun. 2. Bill & Ted's Excellent Video Game Adventure - Looks like it could go either way. Haven't played it. The dialogue/story seems pretty legit though. Honorable Mentions: Pictionary - never played it. A Nightmare On Elm Street - Really cool premise. You couldn't have asked for many more options for a better concept of a NOES game. It's not bad. A little boring after a while. But the premise and way they came up with the game is solid. Pretty creative. Alien 3 - haven't played this one. Seems like it would be fun though. Wolverine - could go either way Friday The 13th - I fucking love this game. An NES masterpiece. Substance, style. That music!! Atmosphere!! It's fun. You have to use strategy. It can get a little boring at times, but I always want to go back to it. I get the urge to replay it over and over. So much love for this game. I love how you have a whole campground to explore and have to frantically try to protect everyone while you strategize with the other counselors to kill Jason. But children are dying and the counselors are being taken down one by one as you frantically try to gain better weapons and pass them around while protecting what friends are left. I did beat this game once with a lone survivor in true Friday The 13th fashion. I beat it with the black guy. How's that for a twist ending? 1. Back To The Future - I actually dig this game. It's fun, creative, and thematically follows the film. It's hard as fuck though and that's what kinda hurts it. But for an NES game, challenge is not a bad thing. Back then, as a kid, before the internet, you had one game to play for days and weeks (maybe months). You wanted a game to last. You wanted to figure it out. You wanted to get good at it and master it. I had a blast when I did play this game, though it was really tough. Never did beat it. What I love about LJN games is the atmosphere and creativity in them. They are wonderful NES adaptations of their films/franchises. You usually have to think and strategize while immersed in their NES-style version of that movie world. They could have made them typical lazy pieces of shit like most other games where you just scroll left to right while jumping on things, but instead they are usually creative and you have to do different things with subtle thematic elements of their respective films strewn throughout. The games feel like dream versions of the films where everything means something to the film in an offhand way.

Finally, there's someone else who thinks Friday the 13th's NES adaptation was good. It was good. Damn good. They're hating on it because a comedic angry reviewer bashed on it so they think they should too. The music wasn't amazing, though, it was literally an 8 second loop.
@sayr88437 жыл бұрын
LJN games aren't good lmao. They can still be enjoyable, but it doesn't deflect their obvious flaws which could easily be bypassed if an actual publisher was involved, such as Nintendo themselves. Nothing in BTTF NES was relatable to the movie.
@user-uv7ig7vl2s7 жыл бұрын
You have to escape and fight Biff's gang, ward off the advances of your mother, play the music right (Johnny B. Goode) so your parents can kiss, and you have to drive the Delorean to 88 mph in a lightning storm. How is that not relatable to the movie?
