heh, drumline... you don't know the pain of "sliding". How is one supposed to do a "good looking" 90-179 degree rotation between upper and lower body (yes, 179 is a hyperbole, but...). then again, i was the clarinet player that didnt have to deal with "horns up", but then fingerless gloves drive you insane at late fall/early winter shows... then again, a middle(7-8)/high (9-12) school group... At least band camp is "fun"...

yah, every member of the marching band has thier own problems, except maybe drum major who can smuggle cloths and warmth under their costume... (:p, i mean no offence by that comment. drum major is argueably the most important role) I know the pain of no gloves, as the fingerless i was stuck with have 0 insulation with bare fingertips over metal rings with your breath buffering them every note, but i didnt have to deal with a heavy instrument or "horns up". I have no problems with drumline or other instruments, only certain member attitudes. I still wish to challenge you to try sliding extreme angles between each set in an entire song. That was probably the most painful (longterm) part... Then we also have to ask wether it is truly marching band causing back pain or wether it is the overweight backpacks of physical textbook classes that seem to be AT LEAST dictionary think.
