One thing people forget about Crazy Box is that It cannot attack because of its effect. And its dice roll effect is once per turn. This was mentioned with Skill Drain. However, You can use Crazy Box's Number 4 effect on itself to enable it to attack with no downside.

Crazy plays like that is why I LOVE Yugioh to this day and even more than I did as a kid. Like a good puzzle game, I have more fun trying to figure out how to make a crazy card work in a legitimate duel than trying to win. Give me a card and some pen and paper and I'll find SOME combo that will give the player SOME advantage....even if there are other cards that give far more or the advantage is abysmal and requires tons of investment and isn't at all worth it over just playing a better monster, SOMEONE in the world likes the card art enough they'd rather play that card. Funny thing about Photon Alexandra Queen: As soon as - for whatever reason - Butterspies get some support and are actually playable (let's say at least at a rogue level or Tier 2), its XYZ monster has such a fantastic effect, that it becomes a prospect for the Banned List immediately. 😂😂😂

not at all. it's an ignition effect, so it's extremely easy for your opponent to interact with. zeus on the other hand is a quick effect that can be activated multiple times per chain.

Vishuda only bounce 1 on spell speed 1 and it targets but still pretty good, a non targetting mass bounce that can be made with only 2 monster is dope, it's like budget exciton knight

@@CrnaStrela because it's not a quick effect, it can be very easily negated... and there is many ways to deal with it.. when come to effect, Cyber Slash Harpie Lady is stronger than Alexandra Queen simply because it's effect is a quick effect even though she only bounce one monster. there is a very powerful level 4 xyz monster with a full board negate call Ice Beast Zerofyne, you dont see people uses her even though she is a dark ruler no more with legs and it's negate effect last until your next standby phase, that is because it's not a quick effect.

I’d replace Crazy Box with Number 10: Illumiknight. This guy came out shortly after Utopia, but required 1 extra material to summon, it was 100 ATK weaker, and its draw effect wasn’t worth the steep summon requirement. When it was released, it was already powercrept by the first Xyz monster in the games history.

King Genom Heritage has a much better effect in the anime, where it can target any monster(not just xyz), and its effects can be activated during either player's turn. For some reasons, they decided to nerf this card and Heraldry Crest. Making this card unplayable in its own archetype

WHen not playing for cash prizes, the most fun decks to play are the high risk ones where it's anyone's game. Most "Best cards" are played for consistency or comboability rather than power. Just imagining trying to build a deck where Baby Tiragon could feasibly win is half the fun of Yugioh. I don't even remember how Yuma pulled it off but I know it involved boosting a level 1 monster to 3000 attack and going for the OTK.

as the HAT format guy, i'm surprised to see Crazy Box on this list, the card sees a non insignificant amount of play because of skill drain, and if more people pick up mythic rulers (probably the best deck in the format that no one plays) i expect it to become a lot more played

Something interesting about Sky Pegasus is that the anime version had an extra effect that was completely unused, even in the anime. It could equip itself onto a Number monster to allow it to attack twice. In addition, while your opponent only had to pay 500 LP to negate the destruction effect, it had a weird effect of "Each time your opponent pays LP:inflict damage equal to that amount".

the deck builder in Duel Links even knew how to use General. It is in my Igknights-focused deck. I am gonna brew a lvl5 and 6 build with that set someday too, likely reusing many cards in this one. Attach Igknight Champion and the other duelist gets 4800 reasons to be alarmed. You can stomach adding Power of the Guardians to the pend zone to swing that. With the board set up fully and ideally, that can get well over 5500, with the fire buffing link monster and the Flame Swordsman link retrain on top. I even used the normal buffing one, and even Gransolfachord Musecia as an experiment.

One rule my brother and I played with (since we absolutely LOVE the Xyz summoning method and the Zexal era in general) was that we followed the Zexal ruling that "A number can only be destroyed by another number" as a sorta 'hidden' effect on them. Granted such things were done anyway when normal cards beat Number monsters, but that was AFTER their effects were negated or the normal monster was treated as a Number card. To this extent, if you play with the rule that "only one can beat the other" then it makes certain Number cards INCREDIBLY powerful, effectively being ignored by battle unless another of its kind squares up. This however doesn't extend immunity to spell/trap cards or monster effects, just battle and battle alone. Though this can also work against you. If you have a weak number like Number 44: Sky Pegasus on the field and your opponent plays something stronger that isn't a number, they can just wail on you turn after turn until your lifepoints reach 0 or you switch your card to defense mode, which is the only real good thing a weak number would be useful for after losing its ability to activate effects or zeroed out its attack. One other rule we play with sometimes for fun is the 'Heartland Tournament - Sphere Field' rule where you can overlay any 2 monsters from your hand to RANDOMLY summon an Xyz monster from your extra deck, even if the material cost exceeds 2, you can still summon them. However, they are destroyed if they run out of materials, either through activating effects, or having their material stolen. This combined with the rule that Numbers can only be beaten by Numbers effectively turns the duel into 'Who can use their numbers better'. I've actually gotten into a bit of a habit getting 2 copies of each number card I can find so we don't have to fight over who gets which card. The only time Pegasus is DECENT is if your opponent can't afford to pay the 1000lp to negate its effect or if you just pop a monster they don't care about or can't use. Something that ALSO drags it down is the fact that it TARGETS a card. Meaning if your opponent has something that stops you from targeting a monster, then Pegasus just straight up can't do anything against that one card. If it was a card that could just 'destroy 1 monster on your opponents field' then you could likely destroy anything, whether or not it has target negation.

Maybe, but Gate Guardian had a lot of popularity due to being a boss monster from a classic duel in the earliest days of the anime, Hungry Burger is a meme incarnate that you can't hate if you try, and Skull Guardian probably had some incentive because it's ritual spell happened to have a waifu on it, so Konami probably figured they could capitalize on that because of their target demographic. I don't know how popular Butterspies are, so they might still get ignored unless people really start rallying to get them new support

I get this wasn't intentional on your part, but you've basically laid bare just how far gone this game is at this point. The power creep has gotten so absurd you'd need an entire wall of text and a ton of effects just for any given card to be PLAYABLE, let alone GOOD.

@@felixdaniels37 I mean it feels like some of that can be mitigated by some changes to the rules themselves… ⚪️Non-Effect monsters can be normal summoned/set extra times per turn compared to effect monsters… ⚪️Players start with an even 10,000 or 12,000 LP instead of 8000 to keep the matches going a smidge longer… ⚪️During each players first turn, the cannot deplete more than half of their opponent’s starting LP by any means… ⚪️…Nor would they be able to mill their opponent to death in that timeframe, as each player would have a once per duel effect, unrespondable at that, to return random 3 cards outside their main deck back INTO their main deck if any were removed from said deck by your opponents actions… ⚪️And players would in general have a limited toolbox of once per duel options to help them pick apart an otherwise unsalvageable situation… A purely defensive one at that, designed to keep the game going a little longer rather than helping a player win per say.

Gamble cards can either win you the game, or cost it entirely. At least losing half your lifepoints won't be the end of the world, but getting a useless effect is often enough. Still I wonder if there's a way to work in some "If you lose lifepoints for any reason, gain some advantage" cards to make 1 not as bad a roll? I know some strategies thrive on cutting your lifepoints down. so really, only the self destruction is a truly bad effect since you can't easily recur XYZ monsters.

Unformed Void is one of the coolest looking monsters. Back when XYZ's were new, they were mostly from outer-space and made of 'anti-matter' or something. Eventually they just said 'fuhk it' and started doing whatever with them. Kind of a shame, I loved the cosmic designs of the Chronomaly and Dyson Sphere-type cards.

It still wouldn't be great but at least you could actually punish your opponent for flooding their field with XYZ monsters. And even if Alexandra Queen does get more support, the fact that it returns ALL monsters, including itself, makes it seem a bit underwhelming to me, albeit a good way to save yourself in a pinch.

As far as gambling cards go, Crazy box is the only one that doesn't feel dirty to play with but actually legitimate. the 2 punishments can be played around by a skilled deck builder and the 4 positives are perfectly fair as a luck of the dice roll outcome without being too game breaking. He may have a personal vendetta but I can see why it's his favorite card cause I honestly like the card too from a balance perspective. Not like time wizard which just feels like cheating or forfeit based on a coin flip and isn't fun to win or lose against.

Genom-Heritage was different in the anime. 2 Level 4 "Heraldic Beast" monsters Cannot be destroyed by battle except with "Number" monsters. During either player's turn: You can detach 1 Xyz Material from this card, then activate 1 of these effects. ● Until the End Phase of this turn, if this card battles one of your opponent's monsters, that monster's ATK becomes 0 and this card's ATK becomes that monster's original ATK. ● Until the End Phase of this turn, negate the effects of 1 face-up Attack Position monster your opponent controls and this card gains that monster's original effects. ● When an opponent's monster declares an attack, that monster's name becomes "Unknown" and this card gains that monster's original name. Hehe rule of thumb, most cards in the anime are either broken without negatives or the anime characters for that particular duel draw the PERFECT hand to show the strongest form of the combo on turn 1. See those painfully specific counters that they always know to play going off consistently. Heck half of these cards on this list were ONLY good in the anime because Yuma is a (deliberately) terrible duelist (it's part of his character) and thus often plays arbitrary or defensive cards that give his opponent long enough to make those monsters. Heck half the time he wins because he somehow gets some new Utopia card to counter his opponent out of nowhere. Still entertaining though.

I just love the name and how well it fits Vetrix's nature since he's so deep about family and heredity but also modified his own children to be super human. It was tragic in the story, but the card really suits him so well, ironically being proud of his heritage while also proudly manipulating it to be "superior". @@SethJV It pertains to the power of individual cards with respect to other cards and conveys a time and place for this one that has unique advantages over many simpler cards that have fewer times and places. If the next hypothetical Goat or Edison included Xyz such as this one it can go to bat against other Rank 4s in the toolbox. It’s also been serviceable beyond limited formats, but it’s a joy to see it with such limits.

@@runningoncylinders3829 Yeah you aren't wrong. HAT format, which is from July of 2014, is pretty popular as far as alternate formats go and Crazy Box does see a small bit of play in some versions of a few popular decks. It's not exactly a must play but it does merit a thought.

Sky pegasus and the photon butterspy is what happens when Konami just imports what's in the anime/manga without playtesting. Pegasus is one of the least played Number monsters in the anime (Kaito uses it once or twice) and the Butterspy is the boss monster of one of Dr. Faker's lieutenants and Kaito's fangirl

Zubaba General was lethal in Duel Links for a while until Links came out, Onomat decks often went into that over Cowboy. It was a nightmare to get rid of. So was Genom-Heritage, I played Heraldic Beasts in DL for a while and always went into Genom for an easy out to the big Xyz meta cards of the time

I loved Crazy Box was one of my staples in rank4 spam decks. Used it conditionally when I needed a wall to stall my opponent and only used it's effect very cautiously (or late game where half my lp didn't mean much)

With the new gate guardian support, zubba general will probably see more play now since Gate guardian (and the upcoming dark guardian) are the best targets to equip zubba general to since they are the strongest main deck warrior monsters.

I like to think that these cards would be slightly better in Duel LInks due to the slower pace of the game, even Sky Pegasus having an opponent choose 1000 lp would be ... well about as painful as snapping a loose rubber band on your arm. Even with the slower pace of the game and smaller card pool, there are still many cards in duel links that are just better, and in fact the smaller card pool for once works AGAINST the favor of these cards as with 20-30 size decks, usually your entire strategy revolves around getting out ONE Extra deck monster. However the generic rank 4 builds like Harpies and Lunalights can potentially sweep in most of them for a surprise attack (like I use Big Eye in Glad beast decks for a card steal since it's easy to get 2 Vesparius's on the field and no one would expect it, won a few games that way), but emphasis on "Generic", which keeps the list about the same. So you'd still need to get Butterspy girl on the field instead of just throwing Drowning mirror force or dark hole down, and Sky Pegasus.... pretty much still gives your opponent a win. the pace is slower, but there are far better ways to pop a monster with tempo and Pegasus has none.

I think like a few archetypes of similar nature, that may be why Konami is never releasing more cards for the archetype. Sometimes what balances a card is it's summoning condition and Konami seems to be acutely aware of the card combos that can be done even cross archetype, like how Goyo Guardian requiring an Earth tuner was enough to make it go from banned to unlimited as they just don't release many earth tuners that are easy enough to bring out. It's still playable of course, just not meta defining and I'm sure a casual player who loves Butterspies or Dextra could make their favorite cards work. Just not win tournaments.

Well, for the "dice effect" of Crazy Box, it's "can", not "must", you are not forced to do it. As for the effect of " can't attack" well, it's not that a bad thing if you just want to use it as a mere "wall". As for Alchemic Magician, since I play mostly spellcasters archetypes, her condition for summoning is not a problem (It's the same for her sister "Downerd Magician" btw :p). And, only if I really a specific Spell Card in the GY, I don't use her second effect but only the first one.

In Duel Generation (if you still remember that game), Sky Pegasus comes with your starting deck. And since the AI and that game are programmed so that they will always choose to pay 1000 LP to negate even though destroy it was better, Sky Pegasus turns into an XYZ monster that has the effect of burning for 2k (which is not a lot and still sucks lol)

I used Photon Alexandria Queen for my Kite Tenjo Deck in Duel Links as a backup & it has Photon in it's name. I mix the Butterspy cards with my Photons since they're both warriors and Queen is such a great card to use for a board removal of monsters that are a pain to fight. It's nothing meta worthy but it can handle competitive decks if they don't have a negate set. And for Duel Links having a negate on the first turn is also like a coin clip. Your 4 starting hands are either very bricky or a golden killshot. I can see why skills help.

Actually, I used to play Fairy King Alberditch on a pure Madolche Deck. It was kinda gimmicky, but I used his effect, and if it was sent to the gy, Lessons could remove him from there and also give you another 800 atk boost. Choco Pudingcess could quickly escalate to a whooping 4200 atk and it was fun to play n.n

I have an idea for a video, though it might be a bit more obtuse. I'd like to see a video about the 10 most unique archetypal win conditions, as in strategies or shared archetypal effects that makes the deck wildly unique. Examples of what i mean include Madolche's almost anti-graveyard effects, Superheavy Samurai not using any spells or traps and almost exclusively attacking in defense mode, and the like. What would you personally consider the top 10 most unique to play archetypes?

Non-Effect Monsters are for the most part excluded from his Lists, unless he does a Topic that doesn't revolve around how they perform in an actual Duel (like his "most sad Death Stories in the Lore" Video about a Month ago). Half-hoped that there was no such thing as a Butterspy Archetype. It'd be hilarious if Konami released one of the most fearsome monsters in the game with its only condition being impossible to fulfill. Could work on a prize card, like a boss monster that demands you summon it with three other illegal/bannedprize cards, but if you could summon it, you just win outright like summoning "Holactie the Creator of Light " The card is functionally useless, but is worth a laugh.

Still some people do like to play troll decks just designed to mess with the opponent rather than actually win. I played one guy who had some ultra stall strategy and kept recycling his deck over and over until I finally stopped getting bad draws and could destory his board of defense tokens. it was SO tedious, but reminded me not everyone plays to win. XD
