Regarding red-armed Threepio... why wasn't he the exclusive and "regular" Threepio in the main line? That would've made more sense IMO. Also, the hostility to Palpatine's (now canon) first name puzzles me. Is it really any more ridiculous than half of the other names we've gotten? I bet if it'd been introduced sooner people wouldn't mind it.

You're right. Sheev isn't any worse than Snoke. I think part of it (at least for me) is that Palpatine was more menacing the less we knew about him. it'd be like finding out Darth Vader was called Annie as a little kid. Oh wait...

It was Ani, not Annie. "Annie" is a girl's name. "Ani" is to Anakin what Jimmy is to James. I don't agree that it reduces the character in any way. I'm sure a lot of people would've preferred Anakin never be depicted as a child at all, but nevertheless, he was, and he was shown to be (apart from the slavery and Force-sensitivity things) a regular kid, and that included an affectionate nickname. Unless you'd prefer he be a brooding, definitely-gonna-grow-up-to-evil little creep like Damian in The Omen, Anakin needed to be a believable child. And, already hampered by poor Jake Lloyd's "acting," the characterization needed all the help it could get to seem genuine. I will agree, though, that while showing Anakin as a kid doesn't hurt the character, Lucas probably shouldn't have done it, for the following reasons: 1. Child actors, especially ones at Lloyd's age, are notoriously wooden because they often just recite their lines by rote without really comprehending what they're saying in context. Avoiding Anakin's childhood altogether would've ensured a smoother performance from an older, more experienced actor. 2. It was a no-win situation. If Lucas *HAD* depicted Anakin as obviously a bad seed or somehow otherwise not a normal kid, people would complain that he wasn't being portrayed realistically and/or that Lucas was being too hamfisted with his foreshadowing. So he really should've avoided directly depicting this stage of Anakin's life altogether. I think a lot of people's problems with kid Anakin's depiction are similar to the neverending complaints that farmboy Luke is "whiny." Even though that was most people's introduction to the character, it seems like everyone wants Luke to be mature Jedi material right out the gate, and essentially be the same person he is at the end of Return of the Jedi. Similarly, It seems to me that people want Anakin to basically be "kid Darth Vader," which isn't quite how that works. Think back to your childhood; were you a miniature version of your adult self? Was I? Was anyone? I'm sure *SOME* people were, but I'm convinced it's a rarity. So in defense of kid Anakin, I'll just reiterate that I don't think his depiction as a kid (Jake Lloyd's performance notwithstanding) hurts portrayal as an adult after he becomes Vader. And that includes the "Ani" nickname. XD

Tbh, I don't think Vader is the worst figure made for the black series. Threepio is by far the worst. Either version. 20 bucks for a piss poor version of threepio that isn't shiny, can't move the arm fluidly, can't move the elbow joints, bad paint apps and he seems a bit out of scale. Just horrible. At least they tried with Vader. It's like they didn't give a shit with threepio. Threepio should have came with interchangeable silver right leg and gold arm and just gave us one figure. Btw, the sculpt is different for the wires on the torsos for both threepios. Still nice list. I had fun watching! Keep up the good work sir! 🍻

yeah i agree with 3PO but I didnt want two spot taken up with both. He should have come with a cargo net, removable limbs, and alternate limbs to be any 3PO BUT in this figures defense... I don't think the real 3PO could move his arms that well either. Thanks for watching!

Eeeevvveryone hates that Palpatine. If there is ANY figure that needs to be reworked/given the Vader treatment to now its him. Sculpt that hood as part of the head so it looks decent, noone will be displaying the Emperor with his hood down anyway. Noone. Soft goods for lower body so he can sit proper. a decent torso rocker so he can slouch and a properly sized staff. lighting attachments for his hands or interchangeable lightning hands. And throw in his ep3 lightsaber like they did for Yoda.

yes. all of this is true. Hasbro even has interchangeable hand that would work from their Marvel Legends line. A few figures have hands with electricity bits coming off them, it shouldnt be hard to make it work for Palpatine. im thinking of trying my hand... (ahem) and a custom of it.

Well, I don’t know if I came late but Constable Zuvio is actually canon, he appears in the visual dictionary from the Force Awakens so that makes him canon but by what I know, the deleted scenes from Star Wars are not canon (except for one in episode lll) but still he is canon.

yeah for me it's about how much i'm paying vs what i'm getting AND how it looks. Hasbro is soooo inconsistent with what they include with these figures. You get a figure like Han Solo who comes with alternate hands, 2 belts, and 2 guns. Then you get Tatooine Luke who should have come with at least the same belt and stormtrooper gun that Han came with, but we just get some binoculars and a gun. Lame.

sup mike...another great vid..although ole palpy is a crappy figure you cant really knock his cane. it is for him to use when he is hunched over. When you see him walking in rotj he is hunched over which means the cane would have to be shorter.The figure leans forward just enough to make him hunched and cane touches perfectly to to floor then Cause when standing straight it wont touch the floor. hence dont use for standing up straight..that would be prequel mode..when hunched would be the OG trilogy mode. Also when sitting the cane is a great level for his hand...cant wait to see your next reviews

IMO Constable Zuvio deserves a pass. These toys take at LEAST a year's worth of time to get from the development phase to the final stage of production. By the time the decision was made to axe Zuvio from the movie, the molds would already have been cast to manufacture the toy.

even if he WERE in the movie, his role couldn't have been that big. Big enough to warrant a figure in wave 2 of the line. They could have gone with so many other characters even ones that only appeared in the trailer. But you are right, I'm a little harsh on him. He's a decent figure in himself. Good sculpting. Has accessories. i just have no connection to him what so ever, and i feel like he was a wasted slot that could have gone to someone who was actually in the movie.

A fair criticism. Perhaps even Hasbro themselves weren't aware of his exact role? He does at least LOOK cool. Whether or not he's cooler than other characters who didn't get squeezed into wave 2 is up to personal taste. I guess all of this hinges upon how much information was shared between Disney and its merchandisers. I lean toward thinking Disney kept things very close to their chests, only sharing as much as was needed (production art, maybe a short blurb for a card bio) to bring these figures to market to prevent leaks. You can see some of this in the Lego sets that were produced for the movies, with the sets lacking certain details and features (such as a fold-out mechanism for the wings on Kylo Ren's shuttle). Just wanted to point out that in a case like this, Zuvio's all-but-exclusion from the movie was out of Hasbro's hands and they were probably pretty pissed that they made a figure no one would even see in the film.

Jeffrey S slightly better? As emperor's wrath it's weird. He embodies one short scene from return of the Jedi so he looks weird standing next to the emperor in my collection especially because the emperor doesn't have any electricity coming off of him. He looks out of place. But he DOES have better head proportions and sculpt than the original release. So I know you can paint his head to be better but I can't be bothered to do that.

That’s actually not Zuvio, it’s a knight of Ren. Zuvio was on Jakku, but all of his scenes were cut. He does make a very very brief appearance in the background there though.

And as to Zuvio, the lead time for production of a figure is much longer than when the final cut of the movie is done. This was nobody's fault. Should they just not sell a figure they already made? There's tons of SW toys that were never in a movie.

I think who ever works at Hasbro who decided out of allllllll the possible characters to put in wave 2 of the line they chose a character in the movie for 1 scene. And that 1 scene got cut. It was a bad choice. It was even worse after the movie came out.

Yes. Because they did. The 4-LOM figure coming out has articulated arms. Bandai’s model kit has articulated arms. And the Figuarts 3po has articulated arms. The 3.75” protocol droid I built at Disneyland has articulated arms. So yes.

I scored Jabba for $20 so I feel very differently about him. Episode 3 Obi Wan is probably the least favorite of the figures in my collection, he looks so bland and he should have come with a robe, the old Leia is also terrible, but blue line Vader still looks good unmasked even if you cant stand his face mask..

episode 3 Obi is lacking in accessories, but I kinda like how he looks on my shelf in front of all my clone troopers, so my opinion of him got a little higher. I still dont like Vader, head aside. His cape is too awkwardly big, hit crotch is weird, his hand is gimpy, and he has no place to store his lightsaber hilt. but i get it.

Its very funny cause in usa u buy a standard black series (in shop) 20-25$ BUT IN FRANCE ITS 35$ FOR ONE (like finn , r5 , poe etc) and try to find a shop with news black series its impossible , i live in france and i always need to buy on ebay , and an other "fun fact" we have toysrus in france BUT we don't have toysrus exclusive blackseries (i dt know if i laught or cry) , so very cool video :)

For me the worst figures are obiwan from ROTS ( he does not look like Ewan Mcgregor), 1st relase of Kylo Ren( the robes are to big and stupid and the figure is too small), leia 1st release, General hux (head sculpt sucks), Luke Tattoine, Palapatine, Anakyn (head sculpt sucks), Ig-88, Finn (booooring figure) and the last one is Poe Dameron with pilot gear.

I know im late to this party...but...i display my awful Vader with his helmet off to represent the Jedi scene reveal. That way I never have to see that awful helmet. The excellent redone Vader is gorgeous...of course!!
