That royal family cost 85 odd million. The royal family brings in approx 300million in tourist money. Most of which goes back to the government. Please tell me how they are somthing we can barely afford when it aquants to about £1.30 per person.

I wouldn't even call the family a tourist attraction. Their properties? Absolutely. But unless you're invited to meet with them, no one goes to see the Royals. There's a reason why more and more of the Commonwealth countries are ditching it. They're all sick and tired of essentially providing billions of their tax dollars to the world's wealthiest welfare family. I'm Canadian. We pay more tax dollars per person to them than any other Commonwealth nation does (over $65M for a population of just about 38M people). And all Elizabeth does for that is rubber stamp a federal election call every 4 years. The tourism wouldn't stop if the Monarchy was abolished. Like I said, tourists are coming to the UK to see the sights. The various palaces & castles. The ruins of some of the ancient castles, Stonehenge, the River Thames, 10 Downey Street, Abbey Road, Piccadilly Circus. Big Ben, London Bridge, numerous churches and a bunch of other stuff throughout England, Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland.

@@jamesmnaylor That Royal Family costs much more than 85 off million. That is just the cost to England. Every single Commonwealth country has to pay up as well. Canada pays more per person (over £2/person) than anyone for merely a ceremonial role of rubber stamping an election call every 4 years. And it's really not the family who brings in the tourists, because unless it's by special invite, no one is going there to see them. They're going for the sites and properties. THAT is what brings the revenue in. And that wouldn't change with the Monarchy abolished. There are an insane amount of tourists who go to see the ruins of the ancient castles.

All the recently revealed information about Prince Andrew has yet to be proven true. Maybe the entire scandal was kept from the Queen, although she seems far to smart to not find this out. Watch the engagement interview of Charles and Diana. Although in the interview she is 19/20 and he's 31 (I think) She was only 16 when he "first saw her" and he was late 20s (27/28)!! He talks about first seeing/noticing a then 16 year old Diana (after shacking up with her sister🤮) in the interview.... Did Harry and Meghan really pay back the tax payer/public purse the cost of renovating the cottage, the entire amount? The Bowes-Lyons weren’t royal; sending them to the institution was not anything the royals chose to do. It was the general behaviour of people at the time rather than the royals themselves. The Bowes-Lyon family had its own head who led the family. The Queen Mother herself was the youngest daughter so not even particularly senior in the Bowes-Lyon family

What happened to Prince John was more to do with the Royals since he was the son of King George V, he died more than 100 years ago though. He was kept away from his parents for long periods, part of the reason was also due to World War 1 but by the time the war ended his condition worsened and he died a few weeks later.

I'm not British yet have some questions. King Henry V111 left the catholic Church and founded the church of England so he could get divorced. Charles and Camilla are divorced. Then why did Edward 8th have to abdicate due to marriage to a divorcee? Nazi sympathy, well the British royal family up until recently were German! Hiding family members do to disability is not uncommon. The queen didn't want Margaret to be filmed when she was ill as she was in a wheelchair. The queen thought it showed weakness. Currently the queen is cancelling appearances due to mobility problems. Why at 96 doesn't she abdicate in favour of her nearly 80 years old son! The speech she made decades ago about serving the commonwealth for life wasn't even written by her! In relation to the treatment of Diana and Megan, well the entire monarchy has no idea how real people live and try to survive. Getting servants to open the drapes, iron shoelaces, put Toothpaste on their brushes, wear in new shoes and chefs feeding dogs is not how 99% of people live. A rather outdated institution IMO
