The problem with extra deck monsters with instant win effects is the fact that you could use the same amount of materials to win the game normally.
@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Жыл бұрын
The annoying thing about those instant win effects is that they're always over-balanced and are rarely made easier. Like, Angel Of Mischief could be such a cool card in a stall archetype like Ghostrick, if it didn't need 10 material to achieve the win condition. It feels like the entire deck is inexplicably built around getting to the win condition, which means that the entire deck is nerfed so that it doesn't get to the win condition too easily. The fact that they made a support card designed to give you two Angel Of Mischief cards to make the win condition slightly more viable but it changed the deck's playstyle into summoning better XYZ monsters (Draco Future) is just sad.
@Bezaliel13 Жыл бұрын
@@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 At least Konami actually bothered to balance them though. Pity they couldn't have for the other things Extra Deck monsters have. I mean, a LV8 Synchro is usually with a stronger Effect than a LV8 Main Deck monster.
@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Жыл бұрын
@@Bezaliel13 I don't think they balanced them at all. 'Balance' doesn't mean "We need to ensure that this deck can't achieve the win condition we arbitrarily gave to the deck too easily," balance means that if the Ghostrick win condition is going to a part of the deck, it should be as easy to get to as the other non-literal 'win conditions' in other decks. It isn't 'balanced' that Swordsoul is a deck that was designed to set multiple boss monsters with at least 2 negates by setting a single card, while Ghostrick support during the same era enables the deck to be on par with an outdated meta and was only accidentally made relevant due to an interaction with a completely different deck that actually conflicts with the Ghostrick playstyle. Like, if you're going to give Gimmick Puppets and Ghostricks a win condition like that, give the cards support to make it viable, or get rid of the win condition entirely because it existing means that the deck can't be 'balanced' with any meta because doing so would result in 'gasp' the deck achieving their win condition consistently. Like, if the entire deck isn't allowed to be good for the sake of ensuring that they don't achieve the win condition on the first turn, it's never going to be good on purpose with the only hope it has being an accidental interaction that wasn't intended to happen.
@Bezaliel13 Жыл бұрын
@@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 You: "The annoying thing about those instant win effects is that they're always *over-balanced* and are rarely made easier." Me: "Pity they couldn't have for the other things *Extra Deck monsters have."* Why did you think I needed that long-winded rant in this context? Would be nice if archetypes centered around the alternate win condition instead of having one added to them, but not if it is an OTK ngl.
@ashblossomandjoyoussprung.9917 Жыл бұрын
@@Bezaliel13 I think you're misunderstanding. You're saying that the other extra deck monsters have broken effects and are too easy to summon and should be properly balanced in a similar way to the instant win conditions. I said that if they're going to make the extra deck monsters with those broken effects easy to summon, it makes no sense to make the instant win effects difficult to achieve. Basically, the goal of every deck is to achieve their own win condition, whether it be a specific board, or an extra deck monster like you brought up. But, because of the literal win condition on certain archetypes they end up being nerfed arbitrarily because of that, which isn't balanced. That's why I'm saying that your "They should balance them," comment is dumb because it misunderstands the game itself. Every archetype SHOULD be able to achieve whatever goal the archetype has as easily as any other deck, whether that be setting up a board of negates like the Heralds, synchro summoning with Swordsoul, or filling up Angel Of Mischief with materials. It isn't balance to actively make it so that a deck can't achieve the same goal that other decks can achieve because they decided that the goal would be an instant win condition. Basically, I don't mind broken extra deck monsters like you do because every deck has their own 'broken' monsters because that's the point of the game itself. What annoys me is that some archetypes can get to their win condition easier than others while others struggle, and the annoying thing is that Ghostricks and Exodia will never be good because Konami arbitrarily gave them a literal win condition, while Swordsouls are allowed to be good because their synchro-spam mechanic doesn't lead to a literal win condition, which just isn't fair.

Plants don't have many high attack boss monsters they can use so having a 3.2k beatstick (potentially 3.5k) they can cheat out with Strenna can actually help them push for game. Teardrop + Strenna is enough to otk your opponent from full health by attacking with Strenna, using Teardrop to tribute Strenna after the atk, then atking with Queen of the Night. @@christopherfeatherley I’m not necessarily talking about cards that make Normal Monsters good. I’m more referring to ways people use those Normal Monsters, which is a little different. For Example: Brilliant Fusion isn’t Normal Monster support, but it heavily used the Normal Monster Gem-Knight Garnet. Or using Genex Controller so you could use the effect of Genex Undine. That’s what I meant.

Aegarium did quite a bit of work for me during the Master Duel N/R festival. The chief Rank 8 to go into in that format was Dragublion, but I just didnt have the extra deck space for it and only had a single line to go into a Rank 8 (Parallel Xceed negated by Gatchiri @Ignister), as a result, I gave this guy a spin. That format had way fewer link monsters or proactive board wipes that made playing durdly cards like this ponishing so its removal was live more often. Its also worth noting that the effect that banishes a card from the ED is once during either player's turn, so you actually get 2 ED rips by your opponents first main phase.
@BYERE Жыл бұрын
One thing to point out... Any time an effect is in play that says that the opponent's monsters must attack if able (like on the Embodiments), you CANNOT just skip your battle phase. That said, if you remove the one whose effect was activated from the field, the effect specifically says the opponent's monsters have to attack "this card"... does that mean that those that haven't attacked by that point can attack direct or not?
@Prince_Eva_Huepow Жыл бұрын
If that monster is no longer on-field, its effect no longer applies and your opponent doesn't need to keep attacking. If that monster was the only one on-field, then they can direct attack afterwards.

@@Prince_Eva_Huepow Thanks for clearing that up. Just as a side note, I can say from experience that's not always the case. Not sure if it's just a rare case or not, but the reason I was asking about this instance, is because I remembered playing a duel using U.A. monsters, and I'd activated Goalkeeper (whose effect, when activated, protects one U.A. monster from being destroyed by battle or card effect once). I'd activated their effect (targeting Midfielder), but then switched Goalkeeper out when it was targeted by an effect. Midfielder was still protected when attacked though. Wasn't sure if the same style of ruling applied to this instance too, due to the wording.
@Prince_Eva_Huepow Жыл бұрын

Really makes me sad that 58 was on this list. Naturally, it was one of my high school cards. I’d bring out Chaos 69 and equip for a 4K direct attacker. What was cool was 58 didn’t need its materials to use its effect so you could use XYZ gift (I think) to instantly draw 2 because what it did was it needed 2 XYZ monsters on the field, detach two materials and draw 2. What you could do was use Unicorn to summon a dead psychic Xyz like number 18, heraldry art to summon 58, draw 2, and keep on comboing. Good times.

Number 44: Sky Pegasus should probably be smth like (keeping the main effect): (Quick effect) You can detach one material from this card to destroy one monster your opponent controls unless they pay 1000 LP x the level/rank/link rating of the monster being destroyed. Again at least trying to keep some of the main idea. CXyz Mechquipped Djinn Angeneral, up to three times per turn you can change the battle position of a monster on the field. If the monster was in attack mode, flip it face-down. Monsters your opponent control flipped by this effect cannot activate their effects for the rest of the turn. If it has Mechequipped Angineer as an Xyz material it gains the following effects: If this card attacked a monster: You can detach one material from this card to inflict damage to your opponent equal to that monsters attack or defense (whichever is higher). If this card attacked your opponent directly: You can detach one material from those card to inflict 1000 damage x the amount of cards in their hand to your opponent. Edit: Fixed some wording & stuff Edit 2: Added another monster

Wrong, it's not that burning your opponent for 1000 LP is "weak," Gagaga Cowboy burns for only 800 LP for essentially the same cost and it was "meta." As long as they use their effect on the opponents turn, they force your opponent to attack into them. They can't skip the battle phase. Strategies like that is not really effective at all in nowadays game, but years back before link era, these two monsters actually had some effective use in duels.

It's a really bad monster to put on the list. Apparently he didn't do his research and find out that it's the highest attack plant monster in the game, and it is basically free to cheat out in Rikka.
@gator2887 Жыл бұрын
@@randumo24 even in Rikka it’s one of the worst plant XYZ to cheat out. Summoning it normally with Snowdrop level modulation means giving up 3 plants, likely some Rikkas, for it’s stats and mediocre effects for in the Rikka archetype instead of only giving up 2 in order to grab Teardrop. QotN can beat over 3k Attack monsters, Teardrop can tribute one and even beat over a second if you have another tribute in your tribute focused deck. You could also just go for the 2 material Aisei, and while it’s attack is much lower it has a way better version of QotN’s backrow lock effect since it just sends back any card on the field to the bottom of the deck instead of locking a set spell/trap until QotN leaves (this also means that if the set card you target can be chained to the activation, Aisei’s effect still works if the card needs to stay on the field after being flipped up, unlike QotN who’s just out of luck if the card is flipped up at all) If you’re cheating it out with Strenna, why aren’t you going for: Kansashi: Protection from monster destruction effects for your plant monsters, and can reborn any monster in either graveyard, potentially grabbing a really strong beater in your opponent’s GY and making it a plant. Teardrop: If you don’t have one on board or the one you have is out of material, Teardrop’s QE tribute is really strong especially for the Rikka deck. Hyperyton: there is no other way to reliably get this guy out, and having 1 material doesn’t matter since his gimmick is to replenish them when you activate card effects. Also a really good card to omni-negate a spell/trap effect which Rikka doesn’t not have.
@randumo24 Жыл бұрын
@@gator2887 Lol, that's not cheating it out, that is legitimately generating an xyz monster. Even if you're modulating levels, that is making an xyz monster. Cheating out an xyz monster in Rikka is tributing STRENNA. Which can then bring out any plant xyz monster in the game. This can be done in a variety of ways, including during the battle phase by Teardrop. It is the best xyz monster to bring out for damage, and it's other ability to lock down a set trap comes in handy sometimes too.
@gator2887 Жыл бұрын
@@randumo24 Wording of Cheating it out or building it normally aside, it’s effects are weaker and less reliable than other Strenna targets, and it’s 3200 Atk isn’t inherently useful in Rikka based strategies since they’re far more focused on locking out your opponents over multiple turns than blowing them out with high Attack monsters. Which again means that her lackluster effects are another downside in Rikka specifically. The only situation I can think in pure Rikka where QotN would be the best float is having exactly Teardrop Strenna when your opponent has nothing on their field and 8k life points, where attack with Strenna -> Tribute -> attack with Teardrop does 5k and QotN is the only float that has enough base Atk to OTK. But that situation is so specific where the opponent can have something on the board or Teardrop had to tribute something before battle so a kill isn’t possible with that setup, to where any other monster that can attack is already on the board or the opponent isn’t at 8k so QotN’s higher Atk isn’t beneficial, to even Erika being either in hand or in GY, where the line of attack with Strenna -> Tribute -> Attack with Teardrop -> (SS Erika if in GY) -> Float to Kanzashi -> Tribute Erika -> Activate Kanzashi to Reborn anything Ftks minimum, gets an extra body which can do more total damage than just going into QotN, and sets your board in a better state if this doesn’t kill as Kanzashi has a better protection effect and grants an extra body for tribute effect plays. QotN is kinda just not useful enough to have a real purpose in the archetype, but I do agree that She’s not useless enough to be on the list, and especially not like 3rd worst XYZ of all time. Just a card that lends itself better to restricted formats like that N/R festival in Master Duel or to being a usable budget option in rikka decks to round out the extra deck if you don’t have other options.

@@leojamesquiambao1047 Here, let me tone it down a smidge then: _Banish 1 effect monster you control facedown; Normal or special summon 1 non-effect monster (including non-effect ritual monsters) from your hand or deck, or also your Extra Deck or GY if this set card before activation and is on the field at resolution, with a matching type or attribute as the banished effect monster, and if you do that summoned non-effect monster gains the effects of the banished monster until it is banished or sent to the deck or extra deck. You can only activate “Ultimate Empowerment” Once per duel._

Me an avid plant deck user: Queen of the night would be PAIN to bring out. Cant think of too many ways of bringing it out in a plant deck that wont leave you with bricks and garnets if you dont draw what you need, and if you use only a 40 card deck that might happen, a lot. You could rely on rose bell of revelation and lonefire blossom, as well as some of the Rikka cards, but then you are just building a deck with a bunch cards that would just beat over anything already and summoning it would just be pointless at that point.

Guess you don't play Rikka then. When you tribute Strenna, you can freely bring out ANY xyz monster and add her as material for that monster. So, it's actually very very easy to bring out Queen of the Night. I run a copy of her in my Rikka deck, and it has helped me end games on turns plenty of times where not running her would have meant the game lasting another turn.

@@randumo24 I do play them, but generally as support pieces to my other plants. I usually run rose dragons or aromages. Im still sort of new so my decks arent super efficient. I also run 60 card decks.

@@witchy90210 Well, tributing Strenna lets you bring out any other plant xyz monster and adds her as xyz monster as their material. Queen of the Night is a good monster for that role because she is the highest attack plant monster in the game, and also has that key factor of having an attack of over 3,000 where there are A LOT of boss monsters at. If you don't run Queen of the Night in your Rikka deck, you're going to end up completely relying on effects to get by some monsters and have no backup strategy if you have to battle. Plus, the extra damage can be key in ending a battle this turn instead of not. That is the difference between a win and a loss plenty of times, because giving your opponent another chance can easily be a death sentence.

i tried winning using Musical Sumos in master duel solo and it was a very long game that just made the CPU win with its effect. that was when i know that it is one of those instant win effects that has a unique animation.

12:20 to exactly 50%. The Chance to roll 7 with two dice is 6/36 (or 1/6). Three tries means multiply by 3, which yields exactly 18/36, or 50%. Sorry, i just had to be pedantic 😄

Personally, I love the embodiment cards. I play kuriboh a lot, and if I understood him right, he said the opponent can choose not to conduct the battle phase, but that's not true. The embodiment cards, if they used their effect, make it so that your opponent can not end their turn, until after all monsters they controlled while you used the effect, have attacked.

4:31 Burner Visor redo: 2 Level 4 monsters (Quick effect) Once per turn, you can either: Target 1 face-up Xyz Monster you control; equip or attach this card to that target, OR: Unequip or detach this card and Special Summon it in Attack Position. The equipped/attached monster gains this cards ATK/DEF. The equipped/attached monster can attack your opponent directly. If the equipped/attached monster inflicts battle damage to your opponent: You can discard 1 card; inflict 500 damage to your opponent.

There is an extremely specific scenario where Queen of the Night can be marginally useful: If you find yourself in a situation playing Rikka where you have Teardrop and Strenna on the field attacking into an opponent with no monsters left on the field and a full 8000 LP, Queen of the Night is the only Plant Xyz monster with high enough ATK to let you OTK by tributing Strenna with Teardrop after Strenna attacks, allowing Strenna to cheat out a Plant Xyz from your extra deck. The next highest one is Hyperyton which would leave your opponent alive with 400 LP. Of course, this wouldn't come up outside of maybe !% of duels ever, if that.
