Top 100 one hit wonders of all time, i really tried to make sure these are all actual one hit wonders and that the artists didnt have any other song with real success on any other major singles chart.
SEE PINNED COMMENT if there are artists here you think shouldnt count as one hit wonders...
Let me know your rankings and favourites in the comments. Cheers!

Fair Dealing
Source: www.gov.uk/guidance/exception...
Certain exceptions only apply if the use of the work is a ‘fair dealing’. For example, the exceptions relating to research and private study, criticism or review, or news reporting.
‘Fair dealing’ is a legal term used to establish whether a use of copyright material is lawful or whether it infringes copyright. There is no statutory definition of fair dealing - it will always be a matter of fact, degree and impression in each case. The question to be asked is: how would a fair-minded and honest person have dealt with the work?
Factors that have been identified by the courts as relevant in determining whether a particular dealing with a work is fair include:
* does using the work affect the market for the original work? If a use of a work acts as a substitute for it, causing the owner to lose revenue, then it is not likely to be fair
* is the amount of the work taken reasonable and appropriate? Was it necessary to use the amount that was taken? Usually only part of a work may be used
The relative importance of any one factor will vary according to the case in hand and the type of dealing in question.
Source: www.bl.uk/business-and-ip-cen...
The concept of fair usage exists within UK copyright law; commonly referred to as fair dealing, or free use and fair practice. It’s a framework designed to allow the lawful use or reproduction of work without having to seek permission from the copyright owner(s) or creator(s) or infringing their interest.
Fair dealing law is not only applicable to text-based works; it applies to musical, dramatic, artistic, literary and typographical works too. However, it does not cover the copyright of printed music.
As an exception to British copyright law, fair dealing is governed by Sections 29 and 30 of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988, which outlines three instance where fair dealing is a legitimate defence:
* If the use is for the purposes of research or private study;
* If it is used for the purposes of criticism, review or quotation;
* Where it is utilised for the purposes of reporting current events (this does not apply to photographs)
A statutory definition for fair dealing does not exist; it will always be a matter of fact, degree and interpretation in every fair dealing case. Nor is there a percentage or quantitative measure to determine fair dealing. The Intellectual Property Office lists the key factors used to determine the validity of whether a particular dealing with a work is fair as follows:
* Has the use of the work impacted negatively on the market for the original work? If the creator or owner has lost potential revenue through the re-use of their work, it is not likely to be fair.
* Was it reasonable and necessary to use the amount of work that was taken?
The Copyright, Designs and Patents Act 1988 also outlines the potential fair dealing defences that permit the use of copyright works without permission from the author(s) or creator(s) under UK copyright law.

I keep making the same replies so ill say it here. To be consistent when defining a one hit wonder you have to go off of main singles chart placements in as many locations as possible. If an artist only has one song that was truly successful in multiple places in that regard, then they are a one hit wonder. If they have other songs people like, successful albums, longevity, big fanbases overall etc that is all IRRELEVANT to this lol. I also chose to ignore an artists other 'hit' if that song was a cover too. Of course there is still some understandable debates on some of them but keep that all of that in mind! lol Cheers

@@Media_Ranker a lot of these people get personally offended or they don’t understand what a hit song actually means. They seem to think a band or artist having more than one popular or good song means they automatically have more than one hit song. A hit is a kind of a specific thing with specific criteria.
@Media_Ranker
@Media_Ranker 21 күн бұрын
@@chiarosuburekeni9325 I do get it to a point, if its an artist who youve loved for a while and therefore youre a fan of many of their songs you will initially immediately question it. It's important to remember that just because an artist is a one hit wonder doesn't mean they don't have other good music, or that they don't have their share of fans. But if the general public would only recognize one of their songs, that indicates they are a one hit wonder.

“Lovefool” wasn’t released as a single in the US so it never entered the BBH100. Many airplay-only songs like, Sugar Ray’s “Fly”, Will Smith’s “Men in Black” & No Doubt’s “Don’t Speak”, did not chart on BBH100. This was changed in 1998, to include airplay-only songs (or "album cuts") in the Hot 100. Just in time for Goo Goo Dolls’ “Iris” (#9), but too late for Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn” (#42).

I think this was actually a pretty good list. Defining what a "one-hit wonder" actually is is super difficult, and I'd even tend to agree with Adam Neely who argues that it's pretty impossible to have a real one-hit wonder in the streaming era since it's so easy to release just one song. There are a couple that were probably too influential even without charting to be considered O-HW (Rob Base and DJ Easy Rock is the most obvious example), but nicely done.

I tried to make sure all of these songs were true one hit wonders without the artists having any other genuinely successful songs on main singles charts but just a few notes: if the artists OTHER 'hit' was a cover then i didnt count that, for example Sixpence None The Richer did cover There She Goes and Wheatus also did an Erasure cover. Michael Jackson wasnt an official feature for Somebody's Watching Me. Corinne Bailey Rae has another great song called Like A Star but it didnt chart well and for Brimful Of Asha the remix was Norman Cook, not him as Fatboy Slim. Im sure there are one or two others that people might question a bit though of course lol. Cheers!
