Venom was never supposed to be in the third movie, but the studio forced the director's hand. It was originally supposed to be a forgiveness movie, Harry forgives Peter, and Peter forgives Sand-man. It's also the fault of us fans, since we kept pushing for Venom, and the executives saw the money making opportunities.

Granted I don't think Sam Raimi actually knew how to handle such a dark and horror character like Venom, he himself said he didn't like the character to begin with. Even though he was a horror movie director on the side, I guess he wasn't a very good one. Though the scenes with Venom were actually good, when all of the humor was stripped from the scene. Spider-man had too many silly moments to go down a dark road all of a sudden, because it would feel like they ruined the comedy and drama formula. I think because of that it became unbalanced in the third act, because no one knew how to take a dramatic turn all of a sudden without comedy.

+joyunicycle That's my problem with it though. In the comics Norman became the Green Goblin because he was a selfish jerk who wanted to become powerful. And unlike the movie he doesn't have any hand in creating the Goblin formula. It was all done by Stromm. Stromm worked on it secretly behind Norman's back because he knew Norman was crazy. When Norman finds out about it he has Stromm framed for embezzlement so he can get ahold of his notes on the Goblin Formula. Also Norman didn't care that much about his son Harry in the comics. He is more concerned about Oscorp than he is his son. That's also kind of the problem with doing him in the first movie and killing him off at the end. He doesn't develop as a character and the whole origin isrushed. Also I think the origin of Green Goblin in the movie is dumb. A mulibillion dollar company is only reliant on one contract!? Really!? I hope they end up just introducing Norman in the upcoming reboot but have some lesser villain as the main focus then later do his story more justice down the line.

Elizabeth Edwards I think NC’s point is more relevant in the 2.1 version of that scene. In the theatrical cut of the film, the scene was relatively harmless and could, at the very least, get a chuckle out of the audience. I find the scene hilarious as well because of the awkward response and the follow up silence of what Spidey said. In the 2.1 version, the guy is given more lines for some reason and is given a shtick of giving spider-man some business ideas. It’s way too long and isn’t that funny compared to the quick gag that the theatrical cut makes.

Yes, but things often get changed in adaptions and I feel like it could work. The symbiote didn't make Peter "cool" when it bonded to him. It gave him more power and confidence. So much confidence that it made him overly aggressive both when fighting crime and in his personal life. Almost every cartoon adaptation of Spiderman I've seen handles the symbiote suit well because they have Peter either go to far while fighting a villain or lash out against his friends/loved ones. The whole scene with him dancing is unnecessary because it really doesn't reinforce confidence more than it just makes the audience uncomfortable

You know how Doug mentions how Doc Ock's wife is just a throwaway character in the movie? Well, oddly enough, she isn't in the Spiderman 2 video game. After she dies, Doc Ock's mind completely snaps, he rants about it through the whole game, accuses Spiderman of "killing" her, sends henchman after him, and it's his only motivation for rebuilding the sun machine at the end. I don't understand why they couldn't just do that in the movie. It would've made it more interesting.

Even though Spider-Man 2 is one of my least favorite films, the video game really is amazing. Truly, every problem I have with the movie is fixed in the video games. I kinda love Willem Dafoe's acting. I'd like to say he can even make a live action adaptation of an anime somewhat worthwhile! Sure proved that in Death Note! As for here, his over the top performance made this film for me. However, the scariest aspect has gotta be Norman Osborne himself. Seeing his sanity deteriorate over time, slowly eating away at the disgraced scientist until he becomes Spider Man's equivalent of the Joker. Granted, Joker successfully got Batman to choose one individual over the other, but Green Goblin was also willing to destroy a bunch of innocent lives. Honestly, that's the sort of character Venom should have had in his own movie when he received it. I didn't hate the Venom movie, but like Critic said when reviewing it, it wasn't the ideal Venom we could have gotten. Probably the scariest Goblin moment for me was a brief one, but if you look close enough, you can see Norman's expression, especially his mouth when he says this: "... but now that you really pissed me off... I'm gonna finish [Mary Jane] nice... and slow." He gives off a god damn slasher smile as he's saying that line, one far creepier than his helmet's expression. And that is why Willem Dafoe is the best part of Spider Man's first movie.

The problem with how they did the black suit was that they showed a lot of the "getting high" but didn't properly show the "coming down." The black suit gave him confidence and power, but aside from that one moment of hitting MJ he never questioned what the suit was doing to him. They never had a moment of him questioning what he was becoming, but rationalizing that he needed the suit despite the risks. They really needed something like the dream of the costumes fighting over him that was in the comics. Or go completely over the top like the 90's cartoon did, where Spider-Man was becoming a bloodthirsty psychopath (Although good luck topping Chris Daniel Barnes' performance on that.)

In the comics Doc Octopus is similar addicted to the arms as venom is addicted to the suit/parasite....also in later comics (and I’m talking 70s) they begin to communicate with him (and vice versa). In the same way as shown in the movie......it’s not that far fetched.

I thought the prayer recital had a very clear message. It's a very mean way of bullying, and saying "your God won't save you". He is making fun of her faith to demean her. It's a nice touch, I think. Emo Peter and the dance part are amazing. I loved every second of them. But I watched all of the movies just as movies. I didn't have much knowledge of the Spider-man lore and didn't care if they were going to be good or not. I liked all of them, even though they are silly.

Oh God, Emo Peter... that was the reason I walked out in Spider-Man 3 exhibition. And the first movie was made for kids, so obviously the dialogue had to be corny. Spider-Man 3 is my favorite one, even though a lot of things piss me off in it. The main, thing, though, Venom should have been just introduced at the very end, last scene. It should have shown him either finding the alien, or just cut to him in his house, already in possession of it, planning on attacking Spidey. Then Venom could take up the next movie, or even the next TWO movies because, well, the villain doesn't ALWAYS have to fucking die at the end.
