I am trying to figure out what is the best city in Portugal to live in that is not Lisbon or Porto, to get immersed in the culture. Doesn't the tourism in Lisbon get overwhelming?

That's difficult because there are so many cities that you can get culturally immersed. No it doesn't because to me it never gets too much, just more magical. The cities I have mentioned are all great choices, you just need to choose what you fancy most.

@@paulofrangolho3734 I cannot wait until this Covid BS is over! I was studying Portuguese and then I heard that if a foreigner in Portugal starts talking Portuguese to a local, they will answer back in English. That totally destroyed my motivation to study the language. I thought why would I put all this effort into learning a language when people will just talk English to me. Has that been your experience?

@@paulofrangolho3734 So this is why I won't be studying Portuguese or moving to Portugal. I find that ridiculous that I speak in their local language and they respond to me in English. That is so disrespectful and just plain lame! Thank you for confirming my decision. Someone talks to you in your local language inside Portugal, you should respond back in Portuguese, not English. Why would anyone waste years learning Portuguese to have people respond back in English? People learn a language to be treated as a local, not a foreigner.

Hi...it depends on what study choice you looking at and your budget? Those affect your choices...

That population of Porto is very wrong. Alentejo is a region, not a city, and the numbers are all wrong. The +350 000 inhabitants in Sintra is for the whole municipality, the vila itself has some 30 000 people, and the municipality is 319 square km in size. The Algarve region has about 500 000 people and is almost 5 000 square km in size. The University of Coimbra is over 700 years old. Also the Madeira Archipelago is 800 square km in size. Those 212 km is for the whole municipality of Lagos, not the town. Regarding the Açores (Azores), the population is circa 250 000 (2019 figures). Nothing against Pk's opinions (I agree with many of them), but her numbers are very off, don't know which is(are) her source(s).

Thanks for the corrections, please take note that the figures I provided where for the year 2019-2020 and I got my sources from the tourism board and municipalities. A city and a regions number can grow at a fast rate in months, hence way updates exist. In the last year alone the numbers have increased and census need to be counted for accuracy. Thanks for sharing.
