Fantastic video, Pete. Very good info and in a great format. Can't wait to see your Top 10-12 fullsize guns. I have begun spraying vehicles as a hobby and have a large air compressor. My "best" gun at this time is the Walcom Slim Kombat, but have been looking hard at the Prolite, and here in the States, we can get a kit with 3 needles and two different caps. Although I am also considering the Slim Xlite with a couple different tips. Mainly thinking about a dedicated primer/sealer gun and a dedicated base/clear coat gun. Thanks again Pete for the videos, I am learning alot from them.

Hi buddy, thank you, I will get round to a full size gun top 10 or so hopefully soon. I really like the Slim Kombat HTE and the Slim Xlite, I find they are the same gun as far as performing is concerned, one's just a metal version with a different cup mount. You can never go far wrong with a Pro Lite, they are good, and, as you say, in the US they come with a range of tips and caps which make them excellent value, cheers mate 👍

Great video Pete a lot of work has gone into this I know. I’m so glad the 2 ANI’s made it into the list especially the ANI GF3 I really need to borrow my dads GF3 to see what it is like I don’t think that he has even used it yet. I do enjoy using my 160Q it’s obviously very forgiving, as you know I used it at 2 bar and still god good results from it I’m going to do my wheel at 4 bar and see what the difference is like as I still haven’t tried it at that pressure yet. I’m also pleased to see the Devilbiss SRI Pro made it not one I’ve used myself but a lot of people seem to speak highly of them so much so that I thought of buying one, not that I need it at all 🤣 Thanks again Pete very interesting video. The LPH80 did get 10/10 for performance though, for me it's only let down by versatility, the fan even in 1.2 is still small and the fluid output is quite low, which is ideal for many things but a bit restrictive for others, the DV1s is like a LPH80 on steroids, Instagram link is below mate 👍 instagram.com/petes_hobbies/

Thank you Roger, it took a long time to make but i really wanted to do it, the ANI is the best one there in the up to £100 GBP without a doubt and still the one i recommend to people in that price range, the Iwata would have been in 1st spot if i hadn't put my thinking head on, it's my personal favourite along with the Sri Pro Lite but in many places the W300WB is more expensive than the DV1s and only has 1 tip so the logical choice was the DV1s as it sprays so well although it's slow for full panels it's a brilliant little spraygun, cheers buddy, hope alls well in Oz 👍

Good to hear, I really wanted to put the Sagola Xtreme higher but I just couldn't do it, I think the air consumption is very relevant to mini guns and it really kills it for me, it's uses more than many full size gun's and if it was really fast so made up for it I would understand but it just isn't, I love the 4600 and thought the mini would be the same but mini and it just isn't

Hey Pete, thanks for your videos - so informative - I am working with automotive leather and find them very useful. I am currently searching for spray guns for myself - one for mobile work, to use on touchups/smart repairs, to be compatible with cordless compressor (like Ryobi R18 AC-0 for example) and second one for my workshop, for spraying entire seats. I wonder which models would you choose for those purposes? (I would be grateful for your advice!)
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
Hi Piotr, I just looked the Ryobi compressor up as hadn't heard of it, looking at the specs this wouldn't run any of these mini guns, even the LPH80, which is the lowest air usage out of any of the gun's here is around 2.2 Cfm. For use in your workshop if air isn't a problem something like the Iwata W300WB would be good, the LPH80 is also good but would be slower, it also depends on the viscosity of the material you using of course

Thanks buddy, yes, that's was my thinking in the end, for me any of the top three could have been number one, I love the W300 WB but in many countries its about the same or sometimes more money than the DV1s and the Pro lite s is imo a better all rounder but it's harder to get as good a finish from it as the DV1s which is effortless because it atomises so fine, cheers 👍

Hi Pete-Nothing to do today but watch painting videos as I've a nasty case of flu. Well that's not really totally true...as I've just ordered a 4400 rp 1.0 sr from SGD. Set out to buy a w300 1.2wb for a dual use middy. Well the sata delivered w/ cup was $326 USD. The iwata was near 500 (no cup) and hardly no one had it. I've been Sata guy since the 80's, but lately the iwatas (kiwami 4,wbx.)Have been my latest choices. I was expecting to pay more for the Satajet but maybe that's changing (at ,east in Europe/UK at least). I'm intending this for spot repair only so 1.0 was my choice. I already have an r150 but while I like it it does not hold up. I've replaced the packing 3 times and I'm told this is normal if you tear down after every spray session. I will be relegating the r150 to blow in thinners from now on. My question is -is this the same for all ani minis models? Keep up the great videos.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
Hi Scott, hope you get back to normal soon mate, yes, it is the case with all the ANI mini guns. I've never really found it a problem, I've changed mine on various ANI guns around 4 times, they are around 5 USD for a pack of 10 and take 20 seconds to change. I've had to change the sealing ring once on the 4400B RP, around 20 USD for four and the compression ring on the Sri Pro Lite a few times at around 20 USD for 5 from memory so i guess it's par for the course really. The Sata is starting to look like good value, it used to be the most expensive but that's now changed with the DV1S , W300WB and the Walcom Ego 190, the price of the W300WB in many countries is the reason i put it 2nd and not 1st in my top 12 mini video because it can be expensive and only comes with 1 tip. Be interesting to here what you think of the 4400B, cheers 👍

Thanks David, much appreciated, it was actually very difficult ranking them, I had to have the AZ4 in the list as it's too good not to be in , the ANI gets ahead basically because the AZ4 sells for around 40% more than the ANI so the value score drags the ANI up the rankings

Pete, what needle/nozzle setup do you use in the W300WB. The ones I've seen from Japan are all 1.4 and that seems ridiculously big to me for a minigun.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 2 жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, the one I like the best is the 1.2, I have a 1.4 that i got from Japan, initially i was a little disappointed, it makes it faster but the amount of fluid on full overwhelms the air volume so the atomisation isn't as good, it's still good but not as good as the 1.2, I then on my next job backed the fluid off a little and it was just like the 1.2 so i just use the 1.4 on about 80-85% fluid and its really good, just like the 1.2

This is such a good video I was salivating all along :-))) Anyways, I upgraded my little Makita compressor to a gigantic one (in my eyes only 🙂). Its tank size is 27 gallons at 5hp, and delivers 7.1cfm at 40psi. With these parameters, am I qualified to use a full size gun? It needs to have 1.4mm nozzle because I have to use either epoxy or Rustoleum enamel paint, and they require 1.4mm opening. I was thinking of Kiwami 4 series with a centered cup. What do you think, Pete??
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 6 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, Salivating 🫠😂, maybe you need to get out a bit more buddy 😉 😂🤪. The Kiwami4 BA4J 1.4 would be ideal. They draw around 7.5 cfm at 29psi, so it should be within your compressors' capabilities, and they are a good gun , highly recommended 😉

I initially thought that the Iwata LPH80 would be the best choice, but after watching your video, I think may be the Iwata W300 might be a better choice. Do you think my compressor would run that gun? Thanks again for the video.
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
Hi buddy, thank you, you would definitely be better off with the LPH80, the W300WB would be faster and just as good but it would use too much air. A guitar obviously isn't a large area but I still think you would struggle with the W300WB simply because your holding tank is quite small, you would be struggling towards the end as pressure dropped which would affect the finish on the varnishing stage, with the LPH80 you would have no problems

Hi John, no, that's not necessarily the way, the thickness of the materials dictates the tip size, some furniture lacquer is quite thick in comparison to automotive. As what you are painting is so small I would recommend something like the Iwata LPH80 1.2 E4 cap, you may need to thin the material slightly but it gives a nice small pattern, very low overspray and uses very little air, other one to consider is the Devilbiss Pro lite S in 1.4, a bigger pattern so you would need to turn it in a little, there more overspray but still not loads but is the right tip for your material, hope that helps 😉

Some of the Tulip style tip guns Iwata makes come in 4 cuts in the tip like the older LPH 400 LX and in a 3 cut tip like the Kawami 3. Have you noticed any difference in these tips between 3&4?

Hi Buddy, Yes, if you watch some of my other videos you will here me talk about it, the 3 split tips are generally used at a higher pressure and are faster than a 4 split, that's why people often put a 3 split tip in a LPH400, it speeds it up

Coast Airbrush originally recommended that I get the lph-80 in 1.2 for my small compressor, as it only has 4.1 CFMS at 40 psi. Could you tell me on which position you would see the Wider1L and is the DV1s worth the double price of the Wider1. @peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 4 ай бұрын
Hi Mate, The Wider1L uses quite a lot of air, so it would not make it too high in the ranking due to the way I set the criteria. The DV1S is a very good gun. It uses less air than the Wider1L but at a higher pressure, so there is more overspray. It really comes down to what your priorities are. What's the main thing you need?
@marioweinberger9478
@marioweinberger9478 4 ай бұрын
My Main need ist for spraying smaller motorcycle (Horex & Vespa) parts (max size would be a motorcycle tank) and some spot repair. Being able to use it to paint some smaller furniture parts for my daughter (wooden parts with a surface of about 1 sqm) would be a great addition. I own a smaller kompressor with an Output of about 180l/min @6bar but I would be able to raise the output Up to 280l/min with an additional compressor. I just liked the idea of the small overspray the Wider1 Delivery since I only own a smaller garage. Best regards

Hey Pete, thank you for your informative videos, especially this one. I'm pretty new at spraying and bought a well reviewed gun off of Amazon that does a decent job but looking to step up my game to paint new saddlebags for my Road King and I'm making a few cabinet doors. After watching hours of videos from you and a few others I'm thinking that a mini gun is best for me as I won't be painting any cars or large panels and don't need a large spray pattern and my compressor puts out 8.5 scfm at 40 psi, 6.5 at 90. Mainly a few motorcycle parts and cabinet doors/frames. Although I will have to lay down some primer (and not against thinning it if I have to). I'm looking to spend under $250. Is there an all in one mini gun that can do primer, base coats and clear? It looks like the R160 might be a good option?

@@peteshobbies5383 appreciate the answer. One more question, if you dont mind: It seems most people buy many air regulators and fit one into every gun. What is the reason for this? what is the disadvantage of using just one regulator at the end of the hose and just have a quick connector on every gun instead ? so GUN > quick connector > regulator > hose rather than GUN > regulator > quick connector > hose
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
The main reason is the size of the tail. When you have a quick connector on the end of the gun and the regulator, it gets quite long and is ridge, especially annoying when doing car seals at the bottom of doors etc. I don't keep a regulator on each gun. That would cost a fortune with all the guns I have and would take up too much room as I store mine in zip up covers. The way i do it now, is simply screw a regulator on before you use each gun, it only needs to be hand tight so is quick and easy and keeps a short tail

You can still use you high build primer just thin it down quite a bit, its not ideal but it will allow you to do what you want with what you have although i would buy a cheap ANI GF3 in 1.2 and just keep it for primer, not worth putting primer through the R160 or the LPH80, I think this will get you doing what you want to do, it's exactly what i do cause half the time i can't be bothered to get a full size primer gun out for small areas. Do you thin your HB primer out much at the moment?

@@scottyoung2995 Try this one, it's a wet on wet but will do some filling, www.ebay.co.uk/itm/234326740699?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=L6633eS1QI2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=v5EZyL9iR9-&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY this goes through a 1.4 or 1.5 but add some thinners to it and it will go through a 1.2 no problem, you can get away with a fair amount of thinners so don't worry too much about over doing it, adhesion will be fine, you can get shrinkage but you will see that if you go too far, it's all about adhesion so if the trim you are doing has been scuffed up ok and there's no bare metal or plastic you can see then you won't need primer, just scuff up with scotchbright and spray

@@peteshobbies5383 yes, it's discontinued, no longer available in the market. It has 0.8 nozzle, but i use it for my painting job for clear coat. It's similar to Meiji F55 i suppose.

Yes, it sounds like the F55, which I have and is very good, I will do a video one day on just the micro guns. I left them out of this video because they are only available in small tips, so they are not really comparable to these. The Meiji Finer Spot 1.2 is comparable, but I didn't have it at the time 👍

Hi Andrew, the Sata is a good mini gun but for me, ergonomically it's awful, the fan adjuster knob is always in the way of your thumb, it's reasonably well made but not the best here and it's spraying capabilites, although good isn't as good imo as some of the others so it just wasn't up there for me, hope your well mate, cheers 👍

For 15 months I used the Walcome Ego190 hte 0.7mm for cerakote and swore it was the best for cerakote. However the gun did not last. Leaking air from the cap and the rebuild kit didn't fix the problem, no one could really help me from walcom either plus at about $500 US dollars its very expensive and feel it should last atleast 5yrs of continuous hard use. So i switched all my guns over to Devilbiss DV1 for the fine finish and low air consumption
@peteshobbies5383
@peteshobbies5383 Жыл бұрын
Hi William, Sorry to hear that, I haven't had any problem with mine as far as reliability is concerned, although I don't use it that often. I always get the feeling with the Walcom Carbonio guns that they won't last long if used continuously, which sounds about right after listening to you. Sounds like the air valve assembly behind the trigger is letting air past. Where are you? Walcom should be able to supply the parts needed, which wouldn't be cheap but much cheaper than a new gun.

I tried reaching out to them and they wouldnt really help me much even after I felt I had a good relationship built with them. Im in Pennsylvania and their distribution headquarters here are in Rhode Island. I had their Xlight 1.8mm for primer, the 360 light base 1.3mm with two additional needle, nozzle, cap kits the 1.2mm and 1.4mm, I had the 360 clear gun, and the ego 190 0.7mm with two additional cap, needle, nozzle kits 1.0mm and 1.2mm. I was a little upset over it and the base gun and x light seemed like they weren't working as well as they were new. All 4 guns were HTE and the 3 DV1 guns have far less over spray, work at much lower pressure, and have a better finish. Should have got them to begin with because the the two 360 and 190 were very expensive.

@user-un5my5bw4j It really does amaze me how little time and respect manufacturers give their customers sometimes. You have spent a lot of money on equipment that actually costs them very little in the scale of things, and they won't help. The mentally is mind-boggling really as spend lots of money promoting and advertising there products trying to get new customers but lose the ones they have, doesn't make sense to me, at least your sorted now with the DV1s you have, thanks mate, appreciate the comments 👍
