I'm filipino and have nepali friends here in Saudi, sometime i tried eating a buffalo momo in a Nepali restaurant here, it was my first time to eat 2 plates of it (aprox. 12 pcs). I said it tastes good but my nepali friend told me that it taste more delicious in Nepal. While watching your videos, i am surprise to see a variety of momos and i can feel how it tastes while you're eating, and im craving.😋😁

Plz don't give information if you don't know the history.... The history of momo in Nepal dates back to as early as the fourteenth century. Momo was initially a Newari food in the Katmandu valley. It was later introduced to Tibet, China and as far away as Japan by a Nepalese princess who was married to a Tibetan king in the late fifteenth century

Glad you have seen the DUMPLING VER 2.0 world aka Mo:Mo. Su Mai is still the best for me(if you are a meat and vegetarian lover). But there is still one that you missed out. You are a vegetarian so you probably haven't tasted the lost MOMO's from Tibet in Nepal nor has many Nepali's. It comes from the refugees of Tibet and not from the traders from Nepal which is the jhol momo. Because your guide was a Meat-eaterian, and he is a full Nepali blood, he may not have shown you this dish, Momo's that were integrated with south spices, while the north momo culture was taking over. For meat lovers's Its called TingMoMo(TingMO) and shapta(fried meat with south spices); But now you are vegetarian so instead of meat its Alu-dum with TingMo. It's basically Momo with Potatoes with the southern spice. This is a new dish formed by mixed Tibetan Nepali people. It's famous among Vegetarian Nepali-Tibetan Momo lovers in Nepal. And this is the future for vegetarians. You should Try it.

@@grrrltraveler TingMo(original), Ting MoMo or T-MoMo(called in ktm) is a Tibetan hidden momo feature. Its a mixture between the north and south with that bread momo. I cried for you when your guide added the vinegar to your momo broth. So that's a tip, try plain and ad sauce to your own taste, as we do in Asia to noodle soup, for me plain is perfect, momo with spicy sauce and clean your pallet with the mild broth, with just a hint of cilantro. Breakfast lunch and dinner for 3 weeks, almost 30 years ago, at roadside shacks, one lady, just doing her family recipe. In those days you would not find momo in downtown Delhi, so I borrowed the kitchen at a small cafe and started a trend, a few years later is was common street food, Before that you'd have to go to the Tibetan settlement to get momo - amazing momo.

Thx! Meant that some of my haters or dislikers can sometimes tend to be locals, for whatever reason - they disagree or hate someone I feature. And maybe not. But locals can be super critical I try my best to be honest and research places I feature as recommendations. I support businesses that are local . When the video does well the businesses get good exposure even with my western audiences. When it doesn’t, the small local businesses don’t get exposure they’re worthy of but stay localized. Of course I want my videos to do good as a creator- I want a lot of views- BUT I seldom create a video for myself - I create stories to showcase and promote the good things of smaller communities. I support sustainability.

I don't know about the khuwa, chocolate, paneer or the cabbage momo because I haven't tried them yet and I don't think I will ever like trying them in my life, but the Jhol steamed buff momo from "Swadista momo and bakery cafe" in Patan Dhoka and a Tibetan style steamed buff momo from "Manang kancha momo restaurant" in Nayabazar is to die for. And, breaking an enclosed momo into half is a sin because you are simply letting the juicy aspect, which basically is the essence of the momo, out. Hence, those open momos are outright blasphemy!! I'm a fan of the more traditional family run places. We all know how the system works, one guide has a deal here another a deal there, it's called making a living. I saw a rerun of Anthony Bourdain in Rome a while back. And he was invited by his girlfriend to a local restaurant, but he had to promise not to reveal the name or location of the place. I have quite a few favorite restaurants around the world, but they are fully busy serving only locals, they really don't want backpackers and tourists. Some secrets are worth keeping :)

Casnikful you can buy sealed water bottle with decent water pretty much everywhere and it‘s super cheap - I wouldn‘t recommend drinking the tap water, depending on where you stay they do have filter systems that clean the water. If you are unsure of what to eat at a restaurant perhaps just stick with the veggie option (a lot of restaurants have open kitchens so you can tell if the kitchen is clean or not).During my stay I‘ve barely had any stomach problems - you should totally travel there, Nepal will enchant you even if it might not seem like it in the beginning. Can‘t wait to go back there
