I'm almost 67 and all 4 of my kids are in their 40s. After a nightmare birth in the hospital where my husband was not allowed to be with me, I had the last 3 naturally at home with a midwife from The Farm in Tennessee. My second child was 10 lbs 4 oz and even with scar tissue from the first birth, I didn't need an episiotomy. I love how the fathers are so involved in this compilation video.

I'm 19 weeks with my first child today and seeing this just set off the waterworks - doesn't help that bub started kicking while I was watching this either. It's funny how I've grown up thinking that birth is such a scary thing (thank you, Hollywood), but watching these types of videos (and especially since becoming pregnant myself), I don't fear it anymore. Maybe because I've had such a rough pregnancy so far, but I actually look forward to the birth. I can't wait to meet this little guy in person in a couple of months - no longer being pregnant will be a very welcome bonus as well.

OKAY, I HAVE TO SAY THIS: The Birthstool at @4:35 in the video is a picture of the EXACT birthstool I made for my wife. (I even checked the pictures of it to make sure). I made three of them, just like that one, and sold them all -- one of them I know was taken to Canada, others sold in Montana. I had them listed on Craigslist for a long time before they sold. I'm just wondering how the picture of my birthstool ended up there!😀 In fact, I have that EXACT original picture, taken on 4/20/2009.
@bmfriess3 ай бұрын
I even found the text of my Craiglist listing: A birthing stool is a stool which has been specifically designed for use during childbirth. Women were attended (in their homes) by midwives and female relatives, and sat on birthing stools for the delivery. It allows a woman to sit or squat while giving birth with support to help her if she begins to feel fatigued. Many advocates of natural birth support the use of a birthing stool, which may also be called a birth support stool or a birth stool. This birthing stool was modified from a solid-oak bar stool, and my wife labored on one just like this with our first child. We have [sic] a wonderfully-successful homebirth! The chair measures 20 in. (width) x 20 in. (depth) x 29 in. (height) and was finished with a low-VOC finish (very low in harmful vapors and safe for birthing on).

Ina May walks you through thinking of the contractions as waves and being open to let baby out. I am pregnant with my 9th. Some of mine have been like these videos...one I caught over the toilet. I have assisted first time moms with peaceful deliveries. You can do it. Make sure you have good support people.

I love your videos. Maybe to add to your knowledge , number 4 birth,the rope is very important in my culture the Akamba of Kenya. Traditionally a woman was placed in a birthing hut which had the rope 'mukwa' at the middle, healing wood burning (woods that are medicinal) warm water, and a hole on the ground to mimic a toilet. This rope is so important that it's the major bridal dowry that is not even negotiable and please note,it's not bride price,it's appreciation towards the mother of the bride and in most cases there's no amount attached to it,it's left to the groom to give what they can,the key reminder being to recognize the one labor that no one else could undertake. It amazes me to see such ropes being used and just how similar cultures are across nations.

@@ryanwest6013 then do you think woman's body is programmed to perform a child birth only with an assistance and not the other way around? Do you think woman's birthing system is designed with a tendency to failure? In my country I have heard a lot of news about new born baby being disposed in various kind of places(toilet, garbage area, bush area etc). The death number of unwanted new born baby is huge(in thousands) but never once i heard about their mom found dead bcus of birth complication. Care to explain.

In some countries it's still considered "normal" to birth at home. I would never chose to birth at a hospital by choice, unless there is a known condition/risk which would make it necessary. At home I feel so much more safe and empowered in stead of being ordered around and on my back...
