Mine was Red. I went to the ER right away and found out that I had Stage 3 Kidney Cancer. I had my left kidney removed and so far, the cancer hasn't returned. I need to get checked at least once a year. Stage 3 Kidney Cancer has a 53% chance to live 5 years. I'm at 1 and 6 months since surgery so we'll see how it goes the next few years. So, if you have blood in your urine you can't waste any time to get it checked and if Cancer Surgery. Another few weeks or months could change it from an early stage 3 to a late stage 3 or stage 4.

I'm surprised you didn't cover what is probably most common, cloudy urine. As you pointed out normal healthy pee is clear and light yellow. I learned the hard way that cloudy urine is an indication of a urinary tract infection. My elderly mother is prone to UTIs caused by the E.coli bacteria. Since I have to help her on and off the toilet, I would notice most of her infections by the appearance of her pee in the toilet bowel. If it was cloudy she had an infection. I would then place an urine collection hat on the toilet to collect a sample to take to her doctor's office. The problem I have had with my mother when she has an infection, is that after taking a big pee in the morning her bladder would kind of lock up for rest of the day until bedtime. I finally wised up and placed the hat on the toilet the first thing in the morning. The other problem my mother has is that she is allergic to penicillin, so her doctor would prescribe a cephalosporin antibiotic (Cefprozil, Cefdinir, Cefuroxime) and Ciprofloxacin. One time somehow I did not catch her infection in time and her urine had a milky like appearance. I took the sample to her doctor's office and later that day her doctored called me to say my mother should go to the hospital, so my mother took an ambulance ride to the ER. Her UTI had become septic, the E.coli bacteria was in her bloodstream and her kidneys and lungs were infected. Her blood pressure was unstable and at one time had dropped to 60/30. The ER doctors were expecting her to pass, or at the very least her kidneys would be so damaged she would have to go on dialysis. The ER doctors kept pumping Cefprozil into her. By the next morning her vital signs had stabilized and over the next few days her kidneys fully recovered their function, and she went home. A 95 year old women is not expected to survive this severe an infection. About 7 months after my mother's hospitalization she had an infection that was resistant to first Cefprozil and then Cefuroxime. Her doctor then prescribed Ciprofloxacin which cured the infection. My mother now has UTIs that are resistant to cephalosporin antibiotics. Her doctor now is prescribing Ciprofloxacin for her UTIs, and she is on a prophylaxis antibiotic called Nitrofurantoin Macro and thankfully it has significantly reduced the incidence of UTIs.

I am paralyzed and have to use a catheter to pee. So hello UTIs, especially when I first became injured about three years ago. I take D-Mannose with Cranberry (it’s a pill with both combined) and find that helps so much! As I try to avoid antibiotics as much as possible because as you said, your body becomes resistant. Hope that helps! And of course I drink lots and lots of water 🤍

Omg, thank you soooo much for saying that not everyone needs to drink 8 cups of water a day! I did that for about 6months, forcing myself to drink that much even though I wasn’t thirsty. I was peeing every 30min 😔😳 and my urine was clear. After those 6months I got extreme panic attacks and anxiety that lasted about a year!! I started adding electrolytes to my water and drinking only when thirsty. After about a year, slowly the anxiety subsided and the multiple a day panic attacks stopped. I think by forcing myself to drink that much water each day flushed out lots of electrolytes from my body and that’s why I had such terrible symptoms

I was just coming to say this. My sister S loves beets and had quite a few with dinner. I can't remember how much later (I was in early elementary school) but she came running into the kitchen crying, "Mommy! Mommy! I'm peeing blood!" Cue my youngest sister, who was still in a high chair, saying, "It's probably her period". Talk about double takes. And it was just the beets.

Thank you for starting out with the warning about finding blood in the urine. I am a 75 yr. old woman diagnosed 2 1/2 years ago with bladder cancer. (I was never a smoker, but did have chemo for breast cancer 18 years before; one of the chemo drugs I was given was Cyclophosphamide, my only identified risk factor). From my first symptom (hematuria) until diagnosis took 7 months. Everyone kept testing for a UTI (always negative!). My PCP referred me to a urologist 4 months after that first episode of hematuria, and the urologist's office dragged things out another 3 months before I had a cystoscopy. I finally ended up at the closest NCI hospital (1 1/2 hours away) and had a radical cystectomy (removal of the bladder) in Feb. '22. I'm now a bag lady, and can pee standing up! Best of all, using a night bag, I can sleep through the night without having to get up and pee every few hours!

I called my doctor who sent me for a urine test right away. After the results came back I was sent to a urologist. I was lucky the cancer was caught early. Now I go for a yearly cystoscopy. I found Sebi's mucus comments highly interesting, because over the years I have recently noticed that certain products (for example, dairy--even if powdered) create mucus in my throat after eating or drinking it. So, I will definitely research mucus and the products that cause it. As to Sebi saying that acidity is problematic, some people claim that an acidic gut helps with digestion of food especially for those of us who have a slow metabolism. So, I have to hear more on that from Sebi's viewpoint. Unfortunately, the truth of his claims can only be proven by trying the so-called diet yourself or witnessing someone's weekly in-person/video changes. These days, word of mouth (testmonies) alone is totally useless since liars and fakers abound on the internet.. A series of pictures (showing physical progress) can help prove effectivenes and long-term weight loss changes. Anything else (agility improvement, disease reversals, etc.) cannot be easily proven online. Thanks for the video; I did get some useful info from it. 🙂👍🏼

Two summers ago when very hot, I drank so much water, but felt worse and worse. So, I drank more thinking I had heat stroke or something. I was 61 at the time, got myself to the ER and found I had hyponatremia, too much water in the system which diluted the sodium. Thankfully, I did get to the ER as I was one point above the level of seizure, coma and death as that was stated on the records. Not to mention, they found I had a heart abnormality, which made me feel worse at the time. So, I wonder why the ER doc kept me on an iv fluid unless it was all sodium to put back in my system. Good video, with good information, so I will keep tabs on this end of things in the future.

Last week I woke up with 10/10 pain in my back that came as soon as I drank water. I went to the ER and the doctors diagnosed me with a stomach virus. I reviewed my own labs and realized I was over hydrated. When I provided a urine sample the ER doctor said my urine was crystal clear with no signs of infection. I suffered through so much pain until I started sipping water slowly throughout the day.

5:25 - Commonly associated with turkey, yes. It should be noted though that despite turkey meat's high levels of tryptophan, the body cannot absorb almost all of it due to other competing amino acids present. Seeds and nuts should be more strongly associated, especially raw pumpkin seeds. Your body can actually use its tryptophan, especially since they contain fibre as well which helps with its uptake. Most people probably aren't getting enough, it is good to supplement.

I have seen some massive water bottles at stores with lines on them indicating how much should be drunk per hour and it seemed strange given how different everyone’s water needs are. Another great video! However, when it comes to red urine, I should point out that when us ladies are going through our menstrual cycle, urine can inevitably become red, since it can mix with the blood and tissue thats exiting your uterus thats exiting your body at the same time. So ladies, another great reason to keep track of your cycles. If you see red urine, and you are not due for your period yet, seek medical attention! Please correct me if I'm wrong Siobahn

Great example of the old ways of diagnosing diabetes in 'Outlander' season 2 when Claire volunteers at the hospital. Obviously travelling back through time she had to be very careful what term she used to tell Mother Hildergarde but she mentioned 'sugar disease". Love chugging the water down myself, but I'll try to go easy on it!

I'm a kidney transplant recipient. I did not produce urine for over 2 years. I am spilling some protein. I was shocked the day I noticed pinkish foam and urine. I freaked out and headed straight to my transplant hospital. After a lot of tests, I learned eating fresh canned beets will turn your urine pink. It was an expensive lesson.

This was a fun and informative presentation to learn more with an overview about a specific health topic for the general public (without excessive terminology and complication). You cited some freaky situations to peak curiosity without freaking out the viewer, with the main message that you should see a doctor when you have something weird happen. Nice job.

Funny enough I treated an UTI in early December with a run of antibiotics. And then I spend 3 days in the hospital in late December for the same UTI that turned into a kidney infection. I felt incredibly unwell and the amount of pain I was in the first days was insane. My pee turned colors I didnt know it was even possible to come out of a human. So yeah, take symptoms seriously if something doesn't feel right. Go to the doctor right away.

Oh my gosh thank you! I normally hear a higher limit for how much water to drink and that doesn't work for my body. I sweat a lot, so if I'm exercising or it's hot out I can drink over 3 litres and still be dehydrated. I've checked it with my doctor because I so often heard I was drinking too much but my doc says I'm doing fine. I do tend to go for sports drinks and electrolyte drinks in summer as well, not just water, but I can easily drink 3-4 litres a day and that is normal for my body.

Very educational video! I've actually had my family fuss at me saying I should be drinking way more than I do, even stating that the 8 glasses a day is too little. (They never drink water so they're insisting this is done with whatever I want to drink, which is kinda more horrifying). I tried to explain that I can't drink that much. I've tried before in the past and it made me feel sick and waterlogged. I tried to explain that people have different body sizes, weights, heights, activity levels, etc. Their fluid needs will and do vary.

8:19 I can appreciate that this advice is sound for the typical individual but there are many of us who’s brains simply don’t respond well to the body’s own ques for things like hunger, thirst and yes even the signal to use the toilet. This is a common problem with autistic individuals and as an autistic individual, I face all 3 in daily life. After being diagnosed with EDS and PoTs as well I’ve had to make a greater effort to incorporate water, salt and electrolytes because if I don’t i simply am incapacitated, too weak too get out of my bed for the day. Cirkul flavored waters with electrolytes has helped in reducing those days I’m stuck in bed greatly (along with a cardiac doctor and medication keeping my heartrate down when I’m upright), but it’s still the flavor I’m craving, not the water itself and some days I still don’t do a great job at drinking my water while other days I might refill my water bottle 4-5 times. Despite drinking more water, I still don’t find myself using the bathroom any more frequently either. I’ve always been told “Well if it’s normal for you then it’s fine” but I’ve never met anyone else who only peed 1-2 times a day once a day even as a young child (I seriously have memories of my elementary school teachers trying to get me to at least try to go because they were all convinced I was holding it due to being anxious or something). At most it’s like 3 times a day, always once after I wake up but I never know that I need to pee until I have to pee like RIGHT NOW. I have enough notice that usually don’t have to sprint to the toilet but for reference once heard your supposed to get the urge to go pee like every 25% of bladder capacity: Well if that’s true I think mine is more like 75%-85%. 🥲

If you're ever struggling with the colour of your urine after eating a large number of beets don't worry about it it's OK because there is something called Beeturia. The foaming Ness wasn't discussed enough it has to be really foamy all the time. If I don't urinate at least once in eight hours I know my kidneys are silently screaming at me for more hydration. Gets real fun when you are so dehydrated your kidneys hurt

I find that menopause also influence the color of urine. It’s the hot flushes and all the sweating. When I sweat a lot from this I have to drink much more water to make up for the water loss. Otherwise my urine stays a darker yellow color all through the day. It’s unbelievable how much water you can loose through sweating.

I have been on various ART treatments for a long time and one in particular caused some kidney damage. I was upset that they wrote that I’d refused a kidney function test when in fact they hadn’t offered it to me. Since then, I’ve occasionally peed red, and without even taking a look or doing any tests my GP has told me to talk to the chemist and just pick an antibiotic with the chemist! I’m not qualified to make such decisions. What on earth are they thinking?
