I've been to all the big cities in Southeast Asia, and I'd say Kuala Lumpur is more relaxed than Bangkok and Ho Chi Minh City, cleaner than Jakarta and Manila, and cheaper than Singapore. Every city has its own uniqueness but Kuala Lumpur is a great city for families or beginner travelers. And most travelers who go to Bangkok or Singapore will drop by Kuala Lumpur by accident at first and end up falling in love with it. They’re diverse, multicultural, multilingual, affordable and comfortable, modern and classic, and imagine you can explore culture and food from all over Asia in one place.

I have lived in Hong Kong for 8 years and you can never get bored there. It’s a city with loads of wild life and modern sky scrapers. There many hiking trails too.

Jakarta has not become a tourist destination because there is no promotion... the government is more promoting Bali, Medan and cities other than Jakarta... all the big meetings are often held in Bali... most recently the ASEAN meeting in Labuan Bajo...
