I love the video but, it is important to remember that the I-Rex wasn’t created to be scary (in the jp universe), she and her sibling were created to bring in money. To show to *children.* And it even mentions such a point in the film.
@andirichards7371
@andirichards7371 5 жыл бұрын
It says in the film that they wanted it to be scary. Thats what it was specifically made for. Lets be honest, most people wouldn't go to see the herbivores, they'd go see the big scary therapods. This is an exact excerpt from the film when Dr. Wu is speaking to Massrani; "Bigger, scarier. Uh.. cooler I believe is the word that used in your memo. You cannot have an animal with exaggerated predator features without the corresponding behavioral traits." Later on Dr. Wu says "You didn't ask for reality, you asked for more teeth." So the I-rex was made to be scary.

Yeah, the intelligence part in the JP films is always problematic. The animal is showed killing some extras by outsmarting them in awesome ways, to then become dumber than any animal would actually be when chasing the protagonists. And that goes back to movie 1, it's almost a stylistic trait at this point.

I was just shocked by how much it looked like it could conceivably be one of the dinosaurs already existing in Jurassic Park. When the trailers and whatnot for Jurassic world were building up that they had cooked up a new horrifying dinosaur, I was expecting some ungodly Cthulhuesque betentacled monstrosity that would be it's own thing, not just another therapod. Which is my own fault I suppose lol but I really thought it would be something that would shatter the dinosaur mold, not fit comfortably within it

That's because of the dramatic build up to the T-Rex, and the way that they filmed it which treated it like a movie monster, keeping it hidden and only showing pieces of it at once. Your mind could construct how big it was; indeed, you almost had to because it has so little screen time. I know many paleontologist and paleontology geeks don't appreciate the dinosaurs depicted as "monsters" as though they have villainous intent and are being purposefully cruel,however, I think framing them as such in JP1 is it's biggest strength in terms of story telling, if not scientific accuracy.

The Indominus Rex is Cannonically 3 years old, meaning Ice age 3 came out at least 1 year before the I-rex's birth, meaning Wu could have very possibly been inspired by Rudy when making the I-rex. I had this relization last night and I'm still laughing to myself.

Ok, everyone in the comments seems to attacks these creations with the defense that Indominus was meant to look "like a dinosaur" and "natural". Okay...have you SEEN some of these prehistoric animals? They have a TON of crazy features, not to mention all the creations here were based on real animals. Also, since when does Jurassic Park care about scientific accuracy? The designers had the complete freedom to mash up an prehistoric animal, ans they made another scaly rex raptor. I, for one, would be way more terrified and blown away by Chimerasaurus and Monster Man's Indominus. But yeah, I couldn't take Gwendolyna and Not a Theropod Seriously.

[ Madman ] True. In most of these hybrids you can spot what it's made of, so you know what you're dealing with. Indominus just looks like a white Carcharodontosaurid with its special behavior, so you don't really know what's it supposed to be, nor how many tricks does it have under its sleeve. However, aside what I just said, many of these hybrids truly deserved a place in the movie.

Apart from him being pretty boring with no particular distinguishable features I also absolutely dislike his head and more specifically his jaws. It just looks like they cut open an american football and added teeth. Same problem with the new Indoraptor btw. If you decide to implement a dinosaur that's completely fantasy and not based on an real creature that once existed you may as well get a bit more creative.

I love the relatively wide snout and head quills of the drawing at 8:29. This has to be my favorite! Also I have to forgive the original Indominus for looking "plain" because even though a varied smattering of genes would manifest themselves in physical ways, most genes do not. Regulating internal processes, mental and physical acuity, and so on are where Indominus' other genes would most likely have gone.

datto240z Believable to you, but not to paleontologists and most artists who follow dinosaur science closely. Aside from the many anatomical features that don't make sense for an actual dinosaur (such as the skull being clearly visible through its skin, the wonky/crooked nonsensical teeth, the overall lack of accurate musculature, the innacurate hand positioning etc etc), the overall design really isn't very different than movie dinosaurs we've been seeing since the 1970s, yet modern dinosaur science indicates that many real dinosaurs were extremely crazy-looking.

Back when i was younger for some reason i invisioned something of a Araripesuchus rattoides (DogCroc or RatCroc, whatever you want to call it, those land croc looking things) with these very large 1 claw limbs that acted pretty much as front legs. the back legs would be lowered a bit and the front would have big 1 claw "limbs" that face forward, like the one in the first faketheropod but from the shoulders to the ground. I imagined it to hunt as a pack for sauropods, they would stalk it (after its been seperated from the pack) then pounce and use the big claws to kinda big big holes into it then either bite or jump and go for cover. With so many holes in this sauropod it would bleed out quite quickly. I obviously thought of it being super menacing since i was young. Its not really a theropod but if i could actually draw (which i cant, hence why i havnt posted it anywhere) it would be what i would do. Edit: imgur.com/a/hQM2gif i tried drawing it, different from what i imagined cause i realised it was a stupid design so i added a knee before the claw

These are great! I love re-imaginings of dinosaurs. I don't get why some people think feathers aren't scary, though. If you were being chased by, say, a gastornis giganteus, or even a modern-day cassowary or ostrich, I guarantee you'd be scared. Even turkeys and roosters can be mean buggers. Macaws can take your fingers off. So, yeah, feathers can be scary!

I agree that the indominus was boring, and these would better replace it. For those who want to argue, the movie literally states they're looking for a scarier approach on a dinosaur, and these were much scarier than the indominus, they actually look like something a theme park would try to make, the indominus just looks like a normal dinosaur. The reason this is bad is because the entire idea of the indominus was to create a scarier dinosaur. Most people's arguments I see about the indominus being better, is that it's actually "realistic" when (if you haven't noticed already) jurassic park IS FAR FROM REAL. Hell, just look at the tyrannosaurus rex, it's nothing but a theme park monster compared to the real tyrannosaurus. I agree that some of these would be quite ridiculous if they put them in the movie (like the tyrannosaurus x dilophosaurus hybrid) but some of these WOULD do a A LOT better.

If you would replace the I-rex from Jurassic World with almost any creature from this list, the entire cinema would break out in laughter, because these are ridiculous, gimmicky creatures not capable of causing fear or being awe-inspiring (except for a couple of exceptions, maybe three or four of the "dinosaurs" on this list).

Zachary De Rosia I don't think that Jurassic Park's dinosaurs are accurate, but the creatures that we saw in the Jurassic Park series would actually be animals that could survive in an ecosystem and thrive. And please tell me, how these things are realistic in any way whatsoever?
@HistorianHimself
@HistorianHimself 9 жыл бұрын
Tyrannosaurus Rex While some of them aren't realistic, some of them are actually based on the latest scientific evidence about dinosaurs, such as the fact that many real dinosaurs were feathered, some of them were extremely weird looking, and some of them occupied distinct ecological niches that helped shape them evolutionarily. You can read about the ideas that went into some of my concepts on my website dontmesswithdinosaurs.com
@Tepid24
@Tepid24 9 жыл бұрын
Whilst I like feathered dinosaurs, that wouldn't have made sense with the rest of the movie franchise. Weird looking, yes, but that's the reason why you wouldn't use a Deinocheirus as the main "villain". When the general public thinks of a terrifying dinosaur, they think of large, exclusively carnivorous Theropods and Indominus was just that, cranked to eleven. These hybrids would be awsome in some kind of documentary, but in a big, blockbuster movie they would just be way too gimmicky (most of them).
