Salam! I just wanted to share that for takoyaki, there is a halal shop in Shinsekai, Osaka. When I was there, I asked the chef what makes the takoyaki different (for halal and non halal kinds) and he said that takoyaki stalls may use Lard as oils. That was already a red flag for me. But there are more factors that contributes to takoyaki being not safe to eat (as a halal consumer) even tho it is seafood, like the tools they use. Most of it are made of pigs. But wallahualam. It is good to find out what makes a food halal (or not halal) especially while travelling.

One of my lecturer who work in halal certification section in JAKIM (Jabatan Kemajuan Islam Malaysia or Malaysian Islamic Development Department) have been requested by the Japanese industries to teach them about how to make a food halal to Muslim. So you can be sure that the Japanese are very serious about this halal business. They've been aiming to increase the number of Muslim tourist.
@YusufIbrahim6 жыл бұрын
That is really great to know! I have noticed a lot of places are offering halal, there are a lot of muslim tourists now going to Japan.

Thanks for the video, but for Japanese food, there's a huge problem which is Mirin. It is a kind of vinegar which contains alcohol, and is used in most dishes, rice, noodles, and broth. So basically, pretty much everything from sushi to noodles become haram in a way...

I don’t want people to miss understand that it’s should be hard to find absolutely “halal” food in Japan. The sauce for Takoyaki or Okonomiyaki, mayo and even soy sauce are maybe include alcohol (vinegar) if there are not halal restaurant. Please don’t miss understand guys! You must be make sure each time, there isn’t halal food everywhere..

Japanese foods usually contain sake or mirin or both. It is used as part of their dips ( usually added to their soy sauce) and also in their seafoods dishes, sushi, even vegetarian foods, soups, meat and chicken and some deserts. A quick check online will show many recipes from Japan where sake and mirin is used in most recipes. Unless maybe a person request at restaurant for these alcoholic seasonings to be omitted?
@YusufIbrahim5 жыл бұрын
that is true :) Yea the restaurants we went to they confirmed that they did not use alcohol in their sauces so we went to those :D

So if u want to have it as 100percent halal it is better that u ask to the staff that take out the sauce when u order the takoyaki. @YusufIbrahim6 жыл бұрын
The sushi restaurant is called Umi, it is a michelin star reviewed restaurant it was amazing :D but there are so manyyy sushi restaurants in Tokyo. The best place to find good sushi is at the fish market. Honestly I am not that picky with Mirin, I asked all the chefs and they said there is no trace of alcohol in the sushi and rice so it depends on your comfort level :D
@bomaomaar35796 жыл бұрын
So you’re following with the fatwa or knowledge the fits the most to you? If it’s containing mirin or alcohol but has to trace in it? Then it is permissible? I recognized at first that it Umi, the chef face that i knew. Hmmm pricey bu lt worth the value :)
@YusufIbrahim6 жыл бұрын
There are a few fatwas that say that that alcohol can be used in cooking if the flavor, or texture is not there such as putting it in vanilla extract which are used in cakes and pastries. I would not eat pasta that is cooked in wine because the flavor is still there and the wine used is meant for consumption. Yea Umi was expensive but honestly its a once in a lifetime experience and now that we have a son there is no way we can go back with our kid to that place haha

Do not go to Naritaya in Asakusa unless you want to spoil your Japan trip. They are super super rude. Waiter does not want to clear our table and expect us to clean up after the previous patrons. I told him not ours and he threw a tantrum. We left without ordering and I told the boss that we will clean up after we eat and not before we eat. Boss asked us to get out rudely. Why such bad treatment? Is it because we have no other halal choices and we have to be treated as such?
