If you made a video with more facts, and actual historical documentation, then you'd still be incorrect probably because history itself is determined by the victors and people who had access to said information throughout the ages. Besides that, the information we've seen and read throughout our lives can quite easily be false or just made up. We weren't around to verify the truthfulness so who to say what's real? The Romans loved the spear. They developed 3 main types : the 9-15' long longspear, useful against calvary as well as foot soldiers. 5-7' Phillium, a light javelin throwing spear with a long metal shaft & small barbed head for encumbering & disabling shields. The 5-6'6" short spear had a much heavier shaft and spearhead that could be used as a staff for blocking or bludgeoning as well.

Yes i can agree Most of it is well placed. However I can't forget the rock or stone. Strangely it keep going as a weapin until something replaced it. The rock started it all. The bow wouldn't have been a thing if it wasn't for the sling. The knife, spear, the club. All from the idea of throwing a rock. Later used in castle warfare as a cheap to drop in on enemies at a double gate set up. Even with bows for arrow heads. It just shouldn't be forgotten. Yes I heard it mentioned. Also early fire arms could use rocks if metal ammunition wasn't used. The blunderbuss was famous because you could stuff and pack anything in it to fire.
@toasteddingus69252 жыл бұрын
I read an account of a fort defending against pirates and basically the only things the garrison had were old cannons and old blunderbusses and a severe lack of actual lead and other cheap metal balls for ammo, so the villagers used an axe and a mallet to crush up and break cheap cutlery and metal bowls and other non essential metal tools and mixed those with gravel and stuffed them into small cloth sacks to pack into the blunderbusses and cannon ..... Essentially they shot small rocks and broken cutlery at the pirates ahahaha

Yes I very much agree. The sling should have been on here. problem is They are very hard to master. They are very hard to use in woods. I could tell this list wasn’t valid the moment he said that gladiators killed eachother.
@erikjrn40802 жыл бұрын
Well, they did, just usually not. Highly skilled slaves were expensive, so fights to the death were usually avoided. However, they did happen. Poorly trained gladiators, with little potential for improvement, could be sacrificed, either against each other, or against more skilled gladiators. Wealthy patrons could even afford fights to the death between well trained and skilled gladiators. Finally, of course, when people play with toys like that, accidents will happen. We know that gladiators were often and severely injured, because they received frequent, extensive, and excellent medical care (for that period). Believing that gladiator fights were always to the death, is a common misconception. Believing that they were never to the death is an increasingly common misconception. The truth is somewhere between.

Some weapons mentioned in the video had very little impact on history which would make the not so effective.

Every weapon has its own reason. Spears were used because they were cheap not necessarily the most effective you can get three or four spearheads out of the same amount of metal of anything else .
@roberturlaub8526 Жыл бұрын
i think the reach and the point that your enemy wont do much anylonger if you stab him with the pointy end of the spear makes it quite effective. even if your enemy breaks it. getting smacked on the head with an big ol stick still hurts alot and it is awsome against the medival tanks. if the knight in shining armour comes to steal you gf just poke his horse in the chest. the horse will fall over and die wich is sad but he will fall aswell and most likely get hurt badly. once hes on the ground with maybe some brocken bones or maybe even stuck under his dead horse u have all time you need to finish the job. sure u can do the same with other weapons but as you said its quite ceap to make so even a farmer boy could get his grubby little filthy goblinhands on it

Top 15 most effective ancient weapons.. Meanwhile 8:09 the long bow was a significant weopon during the medieval times 🤦🏿♂️
@adamhyland444910 күн бұрын
I am on board with the spear but not cause of his reasons. it was the peasants weapon. find a stick, plenty around, Sharpen a stick and anyone can weild it to great effect. costs very little, put the pointy end in the direction of the enemy, doesn't take much more than that. ye untrained people probably don't stand a chance alone but a wall of peasants with sharpened sticks can inflict a lot of damage

It is sad that you did such a bad job on actually researching the use of those weapons. Like almost all of these explainations are just straight up dumb and most of the weapons were effective because of totally different aspects that you did not even mention

where's recurve/composite bow? they were small enough to use on horse back, easier to draw that even woman can use. plus they pack a punch.

The religious law thing about maces not drawing blood has no basis in actual history. It originated in DUNGEONS AND DRAGONS. Check sources. Your grade school librarian would be crying if they saw this.

Please stop calling it "Longbow". this is wrong ,it was, and is properly called "War bow" The different types of bow had their own names.

Flaming arrows at #2? Really? Watch movies a little too much? I’d toss that off the list along with shuriken and toss crossbows and slings onto the list.
@luckyluke4525 Жыл бұрын
WTF? A shuriken is deadly? Yea, a ladder can also be deadly if you fall down from it. The chance to kill someone with a shurikan is 0,0000001% I would guess. So probably not one of the 15 MOST effective weapons. It´s more likely to kill someone by throwing a stone at him.

Bs. The most effective weapons are the ones that were used the most.

Morning stars were popular for use in the press, and on both sides of battlements, allowing strikes from awkward angles to get around shields or walls.
@martinmullender-taeter51632 жыл бұрын
no, they were just blunt weapons with spikes that helped the carnage... against armor ...... in a a press.... a dagger, cudgel, shortsword would see you better off, not to mention a shield
@ediblemussel5322 жыл бұрын
For the most part the list was fair enough, but it really did not start of good. Weapons like the shuriken and urumi, flail, etc might have been unique and interesting, but they were far from effective. I would rather have gone to battle or a duel with a simple stick than an urumi or a flail. God forbid.
@alundavies84022 жыл бұрын
In a duel you and your opponent are armed with the same things so it might be best to have to use the hammer as long as it weighs 30 pounds being as how nobody halfway normal can really do much harm to each other with such a heavy weapon and honour restored but without the shattered jaw which as I have had a shattered jaw as a cowards gift I know that it is better not to have one ha ha I say gift because a man takes no weapon in a straightener unless he is going to be able to fight you after that unmanly doing now he is mine and I make him feel upset bless him
@ediblemussel5322 жыл бұрын
@@alundavies8402 well, in a duel, you and your opponent may very well wield different weapons. You can argue it may be more honourable, but it isn't a prerequisite to having a duel. Regardless, no hammer or other weapon would weigh 30 pounds. That would be too unwieldy for a tool and especially a weapon. The heaviest I've heard of was about 22 pounds. Even if a hammer weighed 30 pounds, you should still be able to threaten others with it, though not nearly as easily. Also... what?

What is meant when refering to 'effective' weapon - it's damage potential, it's range, self defense, carry or ease of use? All this video did is present it's a weapon and say it was effective weapon. when in actuality there is no master weapon above all it all about circumstances, you wouldn't want to use a spear in close combat. With that said, the spear definently deserve the top, I agree, but many I would disagree they even worthy of considoration - for example: flame arrows were actually rarly used exept in sieges, it is well known that movies over estimate it effectiveness. Another example is the throwing star, tiger claw and the loose blade (I don't remember their names) were easily stop by even thic level of cloth, so I don't think they were effective battlefield weapon. Last point for now - the hoplone (that the name of the hoplite shield that was used by many across the Mediterranean, not only sparta) was effective, but more as a shield than a weapon in any level and if this list include shield, they must be in the top, because shield was vital to almost any ancient warrior.
