This is super useful and your explanation is so accurate. Even I as a Japanese cannot explain Kansai dialect so clearly because I use it unconsciously...

Thanks for this video ! I never realized I was using some 関西弁 thinking it was just normal Japanese 😅😂

I love this approach of using media to demonstrate usage of these words. Makes learning so practical.

Just started getting into the Yakuza series and stared with Yakuza 0. Absolutely fell in love with Majima's accent, as one tends to, and found that 関西弁 is easier for me to speak. Great video, 100% will be watching more of your content.

I love Kansaiben! The おる really confused me at first since I thought the Japanese guy I talked to was speaking very politely, same with the わ everywhere😂

このビデオがめっちゃええやん! 大好きや。立派や。ほんまにすーごい I love that scene from k-on where they get off the train to Osaka (I think) and ristu starts saying や and やん a bunch of times but gets bored after like 30seconds and code switches back

Thank you so much for this! The way Kansai-ben differs from standard Japanese is quite similar to how my Norwegian Bergen-dialect differs from the more common Oslo-dialect, so I've always felt a certain connection with it. Hopefully I will get the chance to study somewhere in Kansai later in life so I can learn it ^^

Another youtube channel I love watching, partly for immersion and partly because I love watching people cook, is 料理研究家リュウジのバズレシピ . I didn't realize ”めっちゃ” was 関西弁! That channel by the way is Cooking Expert Ryuji - Buzz Recipe. I found him because I wanted to try making croquettes and hamburg.

Wow, watching this I noticed how much the yakuza games have influenced my "default" vocabulary in japanese. Out of these words, by default, I use: Akan, Chau, ee, honma, meccha, ya, de, na. Interesting.

The "oru" and "toru" was very helpful for me, thank you so much I have seen that a lot, my mind always overthinking it and at the end I just give up and ignore it bcs I just didn't ever get a clue of what it could mean.

Okay, so you got something wrong here. It's not kansai-ben to change ii or oi from a word to ee. It's just slightly more masculine speech. kakoi -> kakee urusai -> urusee etc. --- Another note: meccha has, like you said, seen usage all across Japan. It's no longer exclusively kansai-ben. You forgot another standard word that is used: sugoku. Not just totemo.
@GameGengo6 ай бұрын
This all came from Japanese written Kansai-ben learning resources, made together with a native Kansai-ben speaker. I never said that it was exclusive or particularly of any origin historically, just that it is used in the Kansai dialect, this is all literally from Kansai-ben Japanese written resources. That being said though, feel free to add any extra info you like, but I don't see anything to say is 'wrong'.

Edit: Oh, he says at the end. The Kyoto old times one has only a name in japanese then? Hey, can someone give me the names of the games featured in this video? I know Ni no Kuni, but what was that historical samurai one that probably takes place in Kyoto. I suppose the modern one is a type of Yakuza game? They seem excellent to study Kansai-ben.

If i learned ONE thing from this video then it's that the Yakuza game has terrible facial animations xD Jk, thank you for this video! I was actually watching a video from JapaneseAmmo on this dialect just yesterday, so the timing was just perfect, haha :D I got to be honest tho, this goes way over my head; way to advanced of a topic - but were interesting nonetheless and your explanations were great!

That may be my fault in parts, it seems i screwed up the frame rate somehow. Sorry about that! Haha but thanks for enjoying the video!
