Honestly, the most shocked I’ve been was after my first ride on Twisted Timbers which was my first RMC. I literally could not stop laughing with joy on that break run.

Twisted Timbers is hilariously awesome 😎

Same with me on my first RMC, which was Wicked Cyclone! I just remember thinking: "What the heck just happened?! I skipped Superman for this and boy did it pay off!" I felt like my brain was never able to catch up to what was happening. By the time I got to Twisted Timbers, I was a veteran of 2 RMCs, LOL! Although I love Twisted Timbers, I still like Wicked Cyclone better, but that might be because it was only my 4th roller coaster back in the saddle after not riding anything for like 14 or 15 years so it felt more shocking. Twisted Timbers was 15 coasters later in my journey so perhaps my body is getting used to them again. I now have 4 RMCs under my belt: Wicked Cyclone, Twisted Timbers, Jersey Devil and Wildcat's Revenge (another AMAZING coaster).

The first coaster I can think of when it comes to shocking experience is Taron at Phantasialand. I was expecting a family thrill coaster since many people (including you) think it's overrated and I thinked it'll be my case to. That was absolutely not the case, I don't know what happened, but I have not ridden the same Taron as people saying it's overrated: everything exceeded my expectations here, to the airtimes, launches, pacing, whip and of course theming, that was an intense, out of control ride and I could never imagine it will end up in my top 5 but it did

I passed on Nighthawk on my last visit to Carrowinds based on other people's reviews of it and I now regret that decision. Next time I make it there I'm definitely gonna try it out.

I really liked the video with you and your brother riding Tornado. The screams by your brother always put a smile on my face👌🏻 I haven’t ridden as many coasters as you but I had some rides last year that stood out of what I expected. Those 2 rides where Expedition GeForce at Holiday Park and Karacho at Erlebnispark Tripsdril. I still have to ride the ride to happiness cause last time I was at Plopsa I could only look at the coasters as they where not going to open that day

Batwing was it for me at Six Flags America in Maryland, but that would overlap with your mentioning of Nighthawk.

For me, it'd be Helix at Liseberg. That was my first "big boy" roller coaster because I was very scared of coasters before riding it. When the ride landed at the final brakes, the only thought in my head was "I want more". It was a shock for me since I didn't expect to like coasters so much after being scared for 15 years, and it's the main reason why I'm now so eager to ride them.

I know you said you are focusing on full ride experiences but I'll point out a single shocking moment anyway 😀: I recently rode Storm Runner and there is no way to prepare yourself for that 0-72mph in 2 seconds launch because there may not even be any cars n the world that can replicate that kind of acceleration. Skyrush was fun, but Storm Runner was "memorable".
@KeyDash7534 ай бұрын
My first time on Stormrunner, I didn't realize it was a launch coaster. It was ~15 years ago, our first time at HP and didn't know anything about the rides. When the park opened we just ran until we saw a coaster with no line. We didn't see any earlier runs. We were quite confused when the coaster stopped just outside the station.

I'm happy to see coasters from 2 of my home parks on here -- Carowinds and Fun Spot Atlanta. I've mentioned times before that I really like Nighthawk a lot. In fact, it's my fifth favorite roller coaster at Carowinds, and I will say it again -- I don't know why so many enthusiasts give Nighthawk a hard time. I've never had an uncomfortable ride on it. The vertical loop is one of my very favorite inversions as well, and I really like how disorienting the coaster is. When it comes to flying coasters, I believe it's a much better coaster than Six Flags Ultimate Flight at SFOG. Other than the pretzel loop on Superman, I think the rest of the ride is dull. To me, Nighthawk has much more of a flying sensation than Superman, and Nighthawk's overall layout is far better. ArieForce One -- once again, I'll say just how much I love this roller coaster -- never a peaceful moment after the lift hill. I can't wait to finally ride Wildcat's Revenge and Skyrush this summer. I know myself far too well to know that both coasters will not disappoint me in the least. As much as I love intense and forceful roller coasters that feel like they are possessed, Skyrush seems like pure perfection to me. As far as some of my most shocking coaster experiences: Cyclone at Luna Park when I was a kid (thought I was going to be thrown out), Kumba (didn't expect it to be so intense and relentless as it is), ArieForce One (was not expecting the insanity of the outward banked airtime hill or the second hill on the double up), Goliath at SFOG (was expecting a floaty hyper, not an insane, relentless machine that feels like it's trying to throw into the parking lot), Tennessee Tornado (expected a fast but typical sit-down looper, not the intense and mind-scrambling experience it actually is), Verbolten (was not at all expecting it to be so intense and feeling out of control during the indoor portion).
@GPK10752 ай бұрын
Nighthawk is easily #5 in the park, I pretty much had the same experience that you had except I really enjoyed the corkscrews and they didn't seem too different from the rest of the ride.

@Paolo87724 ай бұрын
Nighthawk: The double vertical loop is great but the corkscrew was painful, but it was the 5th best ride in the park. At Carowinds that isn't saying much; it's not Kings Island or Cedar Point. But I do like Carowinds better than either Knott's or Canada Wonderland, and calling Nighthawk underrated is fair. Cyclone is my favourite woodie I've ridden, tied with Ghostrider, now that Coaster at Playland Vancouver has automatically violently retracting seatbelts. I liked The Cyclone better than El Toro when I rode it in 2022 because it was much smoother, although I'm aware El Toro is smoother now. Phoenix at Knobeles is now a contender for best wooden coaster I've not ridden, as is Shivering Timbers, T-Express, Wildfire in Sweden, Shivering Timbers and the two biggest GCIs in China. Thanks for posting this sweet video!

I've never come up with a list of roller coasters that shocked me the most. But like yours, mine features a defunct coaster from the "roller coaster capital of the world". Think you can guess it? Oh, and I have another question for you: What's your favorite element on a roller coaster from RMC?
@morganmcmahon30214 ай бұрын
Ahaha yes! Tornado seems so shocking, ridiculous, and chaotic, that’s why I’d love to experience it for myself one day🇩🇰🙌🏻🌪️ Here’s my little list: 1. Intimidator 305- From start to finish was a shocking experience as this was my first giga coaster. So I was terrified going up the lift hill and experiencing gray out so intense on that first turn was wild. It just blew me away how fast it goes through its layout and was surprised it didn’t make your list. Honorable mention hehe? 2. Wildcats Revenge- After taking your advice about a night ride on this thing, I was in complete shock over what I experienced. I had no idea when the inversions were coming so that made it all the more fun and I think my friends agreed too. 3. Pantheon- Mainly how I felt on the back spike looking down on the track, other than that, this roller coaster is super fun and was worth the hype over Busch Gardens new roller coaster at the time. 4. Manta- I had never experienced a flying B&M before and loved every minute of it. The pretzel loop became one of my favorite elements ever. 5.Fahrenheit- For a front row ride on this really solidifies why people love roller coasters🔥🫰🏻
@HowToBeABusinessAnalyst4 ай бұрын
So much good stuff in this comment! 1) I skipped Intimidator 305 when I was at King's Dominion because it was raining and I didn't want my 1st ride on my 1st Giga to be lousy, or for it to be on the most intense one. Now that I've ridden SkyRush with no problem at all, perhaps I can take on the intensity of I305 after all. (or maybe I will just try a different Giga first). 2) I rode Wildcat's Revenge during the day, but I can just imagine what you are describing. My best night ride so far has to be El Toro. 5) Fahrenheit - Yes! Some serious forces on this one too. I really feel like it's underrated.
@morganmcmahon30214 ай бұрын
@@HowToBeABusinessAnalyst Thanks! Considering I305 and Skyrush are similar Intamins, you should be able to handle the speed and ruthlessness of I305. I adore Skyrush so much for so many reasons, but after riding I305 I completely understood why people blackout on it and can’t comprehend how Intamin built a roller coaster that can trigger such an insane physiological reaction. Hopefully you get to experience it one day and I’m sure whatever giga you pick will be great! Hopefully will get to experience El Toro and Kingda Ka for the first time this year too as I’ve heard incredible things about both of them👍🏻🎢

I would actually put Gale Force and (both before and after retrack) and Great 'nor Easter as bad surprises. I rode Ka first, but it had been 5 years since I had ridden it, and the T-bars probably, Dragstar was still a surprise. Personally, I'd probably take Top Thrill Dragstar over Maverick and Steel Vengeance. Wodan also surprised me, mostly because it was in the 40's during my visit to Europa Park in April 2022 and thought it had perfect intensity and pacing compared to the other 101 coasters before it

(my count was screwed up so Schwizer Bobbhan was actually 100 and chose Blue Fire as my 100 in the moment. Had Nitro been in my excel sheet, I might have just flipped a coin or something day of on which to make 99 and 100 between Wodan and Blue Fire)

@HowToBeABusinessAnalyst4 ай бұрын
I have but I never rode it under the previous configuration so I don't have a point of comparison. Super fun, but not as intense as I expected based on all the reviews. Not sure if that is due to the new restraints, my expectations, or my seating position. I was maybe in the rear third of the train but not all the way in the back row, and I was also not on a wing seat. I might try a back row left wing seat if I can next time to see if those things make a difference. I also noticed 0 thigh discomfort. The new station theming is cool.

Can we please stop doing this with "boost mode" on Tornado? How does a normal ride on Tornado stand up to Airie? So if we took the break runs off every coaster in the world, how would we rank them? And from what i understand, it has gotten to a point where the park doesn't allow "boost mode" anymore. A gimmick that is needed to boost the ride experience from the nomal experience shouldnt count on coaster rankings.
