I see a few comments that #1 (Malik) wasn't the best goal. I think context is super important to understand why it tops the list. It was the first year of the shootout and still early in the season. We weren't quite sure what to expect and some fans hadn't watched one yet. This was the first legendary moment that put shootouts on the map in the NHL. This was in the FIFTEENTH round, which stood as the longest shootout for quite some time. And since it was so many rounds deep, up steps MAREK MALIK, who ended his career with 33 goals in 691 games. For that player to pull that move at that moment was unbelievable. That's why it's a much-deserving #1.

I was only old enough to catch the last 7 years of Howe, and all 14 for Datsyuk. {A tremendous bonus was having Yzerman, Lidström, Zetterberg, and a few more epic players join the memories} I've always considered myself blessed to have had 21 years of watching two phenomenal players do their thing, for my team; and the myriad of exceptional players that made my 2nd group of players, as memorable as the first. Context is important. It was the first game Crosby played against his former childhood team the Canadians. The pens actually had high expectations for themselves that year. Although the season still wasn’t great, this is earlier on in the season and they hadn’t had a win in some time, they take the game to OT and it comes down to sid. His first shootout against his old favorite team, last shooter in the final round, he could end it if he scores. Rookie phenom with all the weight on his shoulders. He makes the move and in the process launches the water bottle off the net.. you also gotta remember how easy crosby makes everything look, the head movement and fake leg kick are so subtle but he fakes them at the perfect to take it backhand top shelf, had the goalie on a string and Mellon arena erupted.. it was so loud I’ve never heard it once like that at the new ppg paints arena. I was 6 at the time and it was my first hockey game, I’ll never forget that moment.

Datsyuk has to be one of the most underrated hockey player of all time maybe due to the fact that he was a very low profile character. Datsyuk has in my opinion one of the highest hockey IQ and the greatest hands in the sport. He was never caught in the box for stupid penalties and was super reliable defensively. I used to watch Detroit games on TV even though I am a hardcore HABS fan just to see Pavel Datsyuk maneuver the puck in between skates and sticks without getting touched. He has to figure among the GOAT of this sport IMO.

I agree completely. Just cause he didnt put up 100+ point seasons (he could have if he wanted to) . In my opinion the best player in the league for a good 7 year stretch. The NHLs first internet viral star. The best 2-way player ive ever seen and the best hands Ive ever seen. Like you mentioned too his IQ was off the charts. He was truly a very special player to watch and I cant believe how quickly his career went by.

Crosby included because of some odd rule? That goal was what 40% of shooters do
@jacobdureno61873 жыл бұрын
that was his first shootout in the NHL against his childhood favourite team who just so happened to have drafted his father in 1984. maybe a shot we see all the time now but not in 2005

they do it because Crosby did it, and it's the speed, how much he sold it, the finish, the water bottle, the context

tbh as a wings fan and also looking the goals datsyuk's flip was the best
@brendanmannik98313 жыл бұрын
Let's be honest. Giroux's goal was the Datsyukian signature goal. It's fine that he did the move but putting it in the top 15 list is just repetitive cause it shows Datsyuk's deke right after
@mypud40683 жыл бұрын
So then remove the Forsberg patented goals to, there are only a certain amount of moves you can really do, most of them are plays off of other players and whatnot
@christopher198943 жыл бұрын
The Kucherov goal is the most clever: Instead of a fake shot with a deke, it was a shot with a fake deke.

Datsyuk is simply the best goal scorer of all time. His stats don’t reflect it, but his hands tell a different story.

Best goal scorer of all time? In terms of scoring goals, Ovechkin is king

@@Howlingburd19 Datsyuk has 2 highlights in this reel. How many does Ovi have? Again, stats don't reflect it, but Pavel is the greatest goal scorer. Ovi is a one trick pony.
@Howlingburd193 жыл бұрын
@@isarealboy359 highlight reals doesn’t mean you’re the “best of the the best of the best”. I’m talking about goal scoring in general; if it was shoot-out, than absolutely Datsyuk would win, he’s a monster O.o Am I saying Ovechkin is a better player than Datsyuk? No, not at all, I’m saying in terms of “goal-scoring” and the era the player was in (remember, it was MUCH easier to score in the past), Ovechkin is the best. Also, I don’t really see how Ovechkin is a “one-trick pony”, but okay...
