La Cueva del Chango is an excellent place for breakfast. The outdoor jungle-like setting is super funky and cool. The selection and food are excellent. The prices are very good, too. You can't miss. A condo is on the rador.@@TheAbundantTraveler

Thinking about going in 2021. Will be my first time going out of the USA and I will be going solo. I have heard from various groups that what I seem to be looking for is to go to PDC. Since I am going solo and speak no spanish, would you recommend the bus? Anything else I should be aware of etc etc.. I like to people watch, walk around, you know... I travel to Vegas 2 or 3 times a year just to get away. Looking for something new.

PDC definitely puts you in the middle of the most popular attractions of the Riviera than if you were staying in Cancun or Tulum. So can you take buses? It depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of experience you want to have. Do you want to relax and not worry about where to go for food? Then you shouldn’t worry about buses. Get an all inclusive and book a couple tours with a company. Group Xcaret parks often have transport with tour companies. But if you want to go on a budget, try the authentic stuff and go to hidden gems, it would be good to learn a few key spanish phrases and get out of your comfort zone. I have rented a car a couple days to get groceries and water and sneak in a quick far away beach trip the morning before returning the car. Then afterwards, I have taken the vans when I was in Akumal to either Puerto Aventuras or Tulum; you wave them down and then pay when you get off. The driver will ask you where you got on and charge you accordingly (not to exceed $50mx). I also recommend taking mototaxis whenever possible - they are a fraction of the cost of taxis and can really relieve you because walking in 100% humidity can drain even the fittest people.

I love Playa, and think it's a great place to take your first trip overseas. Make sure to get out of the city, and see some cenotes or some of the mayan ruins.

I don't drive when I'm in Playa. I'd suggest staying near the beach and near 5th Ave (but not on it)
