To this day I can't get myself to enjoy Signs, it's pure terror to me. There's some kids speaking Portuguese at the birthday party, so imagine my despair when first watching it as a 7 year old brazilian kid. This is a movie that terrifies me, same with the book The Invasion of the Body Snatchers. Must have tried to read it at least 4 times as a kid/teenager, but couldn't because I was haunted by the story. I'm not usually freaked out by horror, it's my favorite genre, but alien movies just hit different. Amazing list, Emma! Great video as always!

Pitch Black- Absolutely needs to be on the list. Phantasm- Really scary horror movie but the alien "twist" can be divisive. Event Horizon- Also really scary but the malevolent force is technically not alien.

Event Horizon is more of a cosmic horror. yet it is a masterpiece. I wish Paul W. will made more original movies like that one and less game adaptations.
The fourth kind is really a movie in an aesthetic style I adore. It's so cold in colours and so Canadian somehow. It's like being sucked into a past that I somehow know but actually never could have been there. It's something that exists in my memory, yet has never happened. The whole setting is amazing and by this I don't necessarly mean the documentary style but more the pictures itself. I like the 90s vibes so much, especially the darker ones.

Man, when The faculty came out I was obsessed. It's always good for some cheesy horror Teen fun. Love this list so much, a few I'd never heard of before. My two recommendations are: Circle - 2015 A group of people are placed in a circle aboard a UFO and have to decide who's Life is most important Underwater-2020 Sure you could say these are earth creatures, but the depths of the ocean are as otherworldly to me as those in the night sky. This movie shows a crew trying to survive catastrophe at an underwater facility. The creatures are very Lovecraftian.

I have two movies I highly recommend but aren't horror based. Cosmos and The Vast of Night. Cosmos is about these three British guys who come across a sound and investigate it coming to find some interesting discoveries about something above them... (bad explanation but I was trying not to spoil it). The Vast of Night is about this switchboard operator who hears a sound on a guys radio broadcast and notes him about it. They both investigate the sounds and learn more and more from people around the town about what it could be. Neither of these movies have actual aliens but do have alien craft and its very obvious what they find is otherworldly. Edit: I also forgot about War of the Worlds(2005). It's about these alien tripods that invade this town and follows this guy that got stuck with his kids as they fight for survival. Highly a horror movie, many get traumatized as kids from the tripods sound. The graphics and CGI are very good at parts but questionable at others for the time.

I really enjoyed "Communion" as well. But I'll watch anything Christopher Walken is in, especially his earlier work like this film, "The Dead Zone" and "The Prophecy" to name a few. Whitley Strieber took a big risk writing that book because he put his reputation on the line and left himself open to be considered someone who may not have all his ducks in a row if you get what I mean. There was also a TV mini series back in 1992 called "Intruders" starring Mare Willingham which was apparently based on a true life account book called "Intruders: The incredible visitations at Copley Woods". I realise that it's a TV series and not a movie but I thought it was worth mentioning because it was just so good.

Thanks for sharing your list, Emma. I've seen most of the films you listed and I agree that there are all good. "Communion" is very much a unique film and a bit slow paced, but it has some scenes that are creepy. Obviously, I grew up with a lot of older films like "War Of The Worlds (1953)", "Earth Vs. The Flying Saucers (1955)" and "Invaders From Mars (1953)" which are some of my all-time favorite alien invasion films, but I thought I would try and give you a list of more recent films that are also favorites of mine. So, in no particular order: 1. The Forgotten (2004) 2. Eyes Behind The Stars (1978) 3. Silent Warnings (2003) 4. The Whisperer In Darkness (2011) 5. Tremors (1990) - to quote Fred Ward, "I vote for outer space, no way these things are local boys."

I purchased and watched Honeymoon based on your recommendation earlier today. I have to say I was really disappointed. The ending was just flat and empty. The buildup was so good. the actors were great, the tension was great, and there were so many places they could have gone with it, but in the end they just fizzled out. I've got to have some kind of an explanation in the end. I sit through 90 minutes of something waiting to see a good reveal, and this one fell flat on that. There were so many neat endings they could have spun off this! I feel like I'm owed an explanation, but got none. We get a hint of where they were trying to go with the last line in the film, and the same line she said earlier, but again it requires more details that simply aren't there. A good movie is one you understand in the end. I was let down with this one.

But Matt Reeves, just last year, claims that what fell into the ocean was, in fact, the monster. The monster falling into the ocean makes way more sense with the information provided within the movie. The satellite/oil drilling stuff mostly comes from the ARG. Clearly, within the context of the movie alone, that shot of something falling into the water had to be intended to make us think that was the monster arriving.

The original 1958 _Blob_ was, but in the remake, the titular 'Blob' is ultimately revealed to be, not a creature of extraterrestrial origin _per se,_ but a biological weapon created by the American military during the Cold War, which was ejected into space aboard a satellite, mutated while in the depths of space as a result of cosmic radiation, and crashed back down to Earth in its highly volatile 'Blob' form.

Close Encounters scared the daylights out of me when I was a kid, especially the scene when the little boy gets sucked out the door. I saw it again in the theatres a few years back and it still had the same unnerving effect. There are a few other jumpy moments in there that surface when you least expect it. Spielberg has a way of setting you up to think his film is going to be all unicorn and rainbows, but there are always darker themes and connotations, often subtle, brewing under the surface. Also, do "Mothman Prophecies" and/or "Eraserhead" qualify as alien horror?. 😁😛🤔

Nice list. There are quite a few on here that I haven’t seen. Have you seen The Vast of Night? The storytelling in this film is top notch.

I edited out the really dumb end of Mist so i could let my son watch it. To this day he has no idea how that movie actually ends! I did this with tons of horror because he liked the genre so much! He’s also been on film sets and around movie monsters and props his entire life.

The Blob (80's version). Underrated and holds up well.

Another wonderful List, thank you so much for all the inspiration to pull from ! 🥳 I’m taking each to me unknown one at a time and Dark Skies & Honeymoon already went under the radar, so I’m back on digging after those 😂

I liked "Hangar 10" which is based on 1980 UFO occurrence in a Suffolk forest. Very realistic though I found the end a bit confusing. Not a film for young ladies to watch on their own late at night when the wind is howling outside and tree branches are knocking against the fence.
