I've seen all of those on this list. Fun to relive them. When I was in culinary school things like Bingate used to happen. It occurs when someone is so into their own thing they just do stupid things. We had made puff pastry and each person labeled their own. We made two batches. When we went to use them one of mine was missing. Our Chef instructor quietly checked the waste bins by every student until he found the wrapper with my name on it. When he confronted the person who "stole" it she remarked "Her first one was terrible and his (mine) was perfect and she was too embarrassed to have another failure. Now that was on purpose.

@ Agreed, why give in and apologize or change the format of the show for such a small group of viewers? It happens here in Canada all of the time. Sometimes it only takes one person to protest a joke or a comment for the media to blow up something so incredibly meaningless. At least you still have unapologetic comedians that don’t give in to the insanity of political correctness. Jimmy Carr and Ricky Gervais are legend for not giving in to the bullshit comments from offended viewers. It’s not the problem of the writers, creators, and producers that certain individuals have not learned how to use the remote to change the channel or turn off the TV.

As an American watching this show on Netflix the only one of these that was a scandal was #1 Bingate. That was really upsetting to watch. This is supposed to be a friendly competition show with nothing at stake really. 20. Cornish pasties were creative and brilliant. Loved it 19. Most people would automatically shoo away a fly. She was being COMFORTED by Noel Fielding. Sura was a really sweet person, and you could see how upset she was about what happened if you have an ounce of empathy. Dave was a real gentleman and he received the place he deserved because It was judged fairly. 18. If you take the words at face value and don't have a dirty mind you don't have a problem with it. 17. It's obvious they're SMEG fridges. They're cute and the look of them is appropriate for a cute baking show competition. 16. There is no right way to do something. If you do something one way because of your culture or whatever, good for you--do that. If you prefer doing something a different way, then do that--good for you. 15. You don't think people already cheat at everything? Why are you betting in the first place on a baking show competition? 14. Private issue between Hollywood and his wife. Didn't affect the actual content on the program from what I can see. 13. That was HILARIOUS. I don't really know anything about Boris Johnson because I live in the U.S. It was a really funny skit. 12. Prue eats the food before her and judges it fairly. What's the problem? She doesn't actually prepare the 2nd element food for her and Hollywood to eat and neither does he. 11. That was what I expected from the presenters. Wasn't shocked. Was surprised that people didn't know how to prepare an avocado. 10. Have you never watched a program/movie, etc. before?--they miss all sorts of things in editing content. I doubt that was intentional. 9. It's not like they snuck store bought fondant onto the show. It had to be approved by someone to be on the program. 8. Parenting. Try it. All kids (and pretty much all people are really stupid and need to be talked to) Plus I think there is a safeguard for that. 7. That's just how she looks and interacts with the world around her--we're all different. I didn't see any flirting at all. 6. This is news? Seriously? Again I'm an American and astounded that this is news. 5. This is news? Seriously? Again I'm an American and astounded that this is news. 4. He put in the time to be a master of his craft. The distinction of pro and amateur just means whether or not someone does this for a living. An amateur can DEFINITELY BE MORE TALENTED THAN A PROFESSIONAL. 3. Not surprised this happened--I forget what stuff looks like, where I put it too + I'm not on television, which is inherently stressful and leads to additional mistakes and errors in judgment. It would be NICE if each competitor had their own fucking fridge/freezer with their name on it. And for the viewer it would be nice if the bakers had aprons with their name on them so that the viewer can keep them straight when we're suddenly introduced to 12/13 new people. 2. ACCIDENT. She thought the show had just ended. I watch on Netflix and know the outcome from Twitter before I watch. Calm the fuck down. 1. ACTUAL SCANDAL. Shouldn't have happened. That woman shouldn't have been selected for Bake Off. They made a mistake during the vetting process.
@Absolute102Ай бұрын
Half of these "scandals" are filler, a top 10 list is enough. Usually, if a handful of people spoke up about anything like 20, 17, 13, 12, 11, 10 then some journalist in a cobweb filled office would pounce on it to report the reaction rather than the actual scandal.

No. Brit here, Channel 4 is what many Americans would expect a TV channel to be, ads and all, but the BBC ("British Broadcasting Corporation) is nothing like that. Firstly, it was founded specifically under the principles of "to inform, to educate, to entertain" in that order - Doctor Who was originally concieved as a children's history program before becoming the bastion of sci-fi it is today. Secondly, no ads: the BBC is funded through merchandising of their biggest shows (Top Gear and Doctor Who spring to mind), and the "TV license" that every Brit with a TV is required to pay. As a result, stars on non-BBC works will often earn more money, but the production standards and writing of BBC shows are much higher (and the special effects budgets usually lower). This, plus it's sheer age (it starded in 1922!) and the fact that Britain is the only country that really does this, the BBC is also a "national treasure", considered one of the best things about our country, and we don't really take criticism of it too well (except the usual arguments about the TV license). As an aside, if you haven't heard of David Attenborough, Google him: his early nature documentaries are a product of the BBC's high standards, and the BBC is still the leading producer of the highest quality nature documentaries, continuing to be at the cutting edge of new nature discoveries, and setting the standard for the rest of the world. TL;DR: BBC is best because a), it's Very British, and b) usually of higher quality. Compare the American show "Leverage" with the British show "Hustle" - Channel 4 (and ITV) are more "Americanised" TV channels (compared to the BBC) and thus more the sort of thing you would expect to see, but "Hustle" was on the BBC. Also, consider that an American version of Bake-Off failed - but the Canadian version is still going strong!

Gonna go dunk a jaffa cake into tea and put a variety of fillings into pasties. Gonna put fillings in them from all sorts of different cuisines, and dessert ones too. Can't stop me, going rogue! Also, being offended over an animal's bits. Really.

It moving to channel 4 turned me off for a while. It took a long time to readjust. The couple of most recent series - Alison Hammond is a fantastic host Wasn’t a fan of Matt Lucas The skit parodies at the beginning are quite cringe Bin gate is legendary

I never watched it pre channel 4 as I really disliked Mel and Sue, and Mel in particular would have annoyed me too much. I always liked Noel and my favourite out of the others was Sandi. Matt Lucas next....don't like Alison. Love Prue.

Would anyone in the UK be offended by this seasons constant chuckling and word play during the challenge to make a Spotted Dick? As an American I couldn’t hold my laughter in but everyone on the show, including the judges, had the same reaction 😂😂😂

Who wants to bet that the complaint about product placement came from one of their competitors. Ain't no way a member of the public is gonna care

Pru was a big improvement over Mary Berry. Noel was a huge improvement over the original comedy duo. I think the most recent seasons are the best of the lot.

The fridge thing was so stupid. "A kId CoUlD hAvE sEeN iT" is the stupidest excuse ever. If your kid sees a joke, takes it at face value, replicates it, and 💀 that's a parenting issue and maybe your kids was never gunna make it

I feel like it's an extremely british antic to have a 'culture week' be the most ignorant and culturally offensive episode in the series-- completely unintentionally.

I don't see how wearing clothes from another country can be seen as racist. They still wear them, so why can't we?
@mfelicia82Ай бұрын
Probably because the people don’t wear those clothes. They wear the same clothes you and I do. It also is done poorly, out of context and incorrectly.
@Pink_G0atHooveАй бұрын
That isn’t what happened. The context was the outfit was worn incorrectly and at an incorrect time. The problem wasn’t the outfit being worn it was when and where it was.
@deer0skullzАй бұрын
the episode is supposed to be celebrating food of different cultures and all they do is make cheap jokes about it. it’s not just the outfits, it’s how the entire episode is handled

Wow, I thought that all the whiny Karen's came from my country, the US. I guess we aren't that different after all. Edited to add: I'm from San Diego, and our culture is very much intermingled with Mexican culture. In fact, I would say that San Diego wouldn't even be what it is without Mexican influence. I have clothes and shoes that look Mexican, sold to me by Mexicans, and I get the most compliments from Mexicans. Actual working class Mexicans would love the shout out.

The fish pasties was dumb to be upset over a fish pasty. As for the pinapple upside down scones because it wasn't his fault that the cakes were damaged he should be given full marks.
