Thanks for including Geometry Dash, it is too often overlooked when people talk about the hardest video games. The hardest levels in the game are probably only accessible to about 1% or less of Geometry Dash players, which makes me wonder what that percentage would be when looking at all gamers in general, and some of the achievements in Geometry Dash genuinely are among the most impressive and difficult in all of gaming history. Geometry Dash is rapidly approaching the absolute human limit in terms of difficulty.

Dark Souls 2 was actually the easiest and easiest to grind levels. Using that item that resets the area and increases the difficulty I kept using over and over again to fight that one Prince monster in the fire area cuz he's so slow and weak and actually very easy to defeat.

Just one Problem about DS2, and that was Soul Memory. It just creeps up on you. You could been playing Co-op with a friend and than BOOM! (soul Memory says: "Friend Who?") Suddenly you can't see each others signs. All because you or your friend earned too much Souls (either helping others or farming souls)

literally be a spellslinger. using magic in DS2 was basically easy mode in the original release that they had to nerf the damage magic did to enemies in the dlc, and then overall in the SOTFS edition

Forget that Prince monster. The best grinding in Dark Souls so is in the Memory of Jeigh. Just keep resetting the bonfire outside it and kill the Giant Lord. With the right armor and silver ring equipped you get about 500K souls in 3-4 minutes. Plus there is a bonfire ascetic when you enter the memory so you never run out.

If we're not counting the optional stuff, Hollow Knight really isn't all that bad. I would've swapped that out with the original US release of Devil May Cry 3. The normal difficulty of that game was actually the Japanese version's HARD mode, so you were already playing on hard difficulty right from the start. Brutal!

I always thought Nioh 1 was way harder than 2. Things like Burst Counter and how forgiving that timing is really make a lot of fighting a cakewalk.

Nioh 1 felt slower and more punishing to me, dodging and counters were harder to do. I had a tougher time beating that game than the souls series. The Tengu was an enemy that i never felt confident on defeating, they were very tough. Before that there was ninja gaiden 2 on the 360, that game was brutal. Felt like you needed to prep 5 cups of coffee or energy drinks to keep up with the action.

I dont know if I was just lucky or highly overleveled but I had no problem against Maliketh. He was one of the few bosses I beat first try. It's been a while since I played Elden RIng so I cant remember my built but I think it was a pretty average strength and dex build. I also always use a shield which makes battles against non-magic using enemies waaaaay easier.

elden ring is potentially the hardest fromsoftware games due to its nature of freedom. This freedom can allow you to play the game underleveled without feeling like the enemy is cheating and just so easily overpowered. Everyone plays every boss on different stage of their character.

@@jarlwhiterun7478 No he is not as hard as Malenia and no he is not almost impossible on ng+ . Maliketh if you want to fight him without player summons/spirit ashes and op builds is pretty easy once you learn his moveset , now that might take a while but when you do he is pretty easy to predict . Positioning and knowing the difference in similar looking attacks is key , he doesn't have a lot of hp for a late game boss since his hp is already at half when you fight the harder version of the fight . I liked the Maliketh fight and the first phase is kind of meh , it would be better if he had full hp in p2 . Tho I will say this beating ER both main and optional content at lvl 1 without summons was genuinely really difficult .

But, he has very low HP. Literally a glass cannon. Players who use the things I mentioned sometimes end up killing him before the fight heats up.

Nioh 2 is miles and miles way harder than Elden Ring. Once you reach The Underworld, you will get used to dying multiple times. You will not even feel anything as if you already got used to dying.

@Watchmojo, if you haven’t checked out Wo Long, totally should, because lots of people have rage quit over the very first boss. Its fighting system is parry/deflect-heavy, and the timing is SO hard to get. It’s a fantastic and beautiful game, haven’t finished it quite yet, but it deserves a spot on your top 3 because to me it was more difficult than Ninja Gaiden (also played). This game is WELL WORTH the play and the rage! 😁👍🏻

My problem with first Wo Long Boss was the game was telling me to parry and I couldn't get it right so I thought I was horrible but the thing is if you have too much weight you can't deflect and the game didn't tell me that so I prepared myself to evade better diminishing my weight and suddenly I could deflect nearly everything. I get you avoid worse if you weight more, but parry? No way!

One thing that I think was the hardest about XCOM 2 was the fact that no matter how perfectly you plan every mission, unless you are given a 100% aim shot, one miss can throw everything off. Especially when some of the enemies you face later on can require an entire squad to hit them before dying.

I actually found DS2 the EASIEST souls game, once I'd figured out some of the design features. Though I thought most bosses were easier, the mob layouts are some of the most bastardly in the whole series 😅

the runbacks in DS2 is actually harder than bosses itself. Nashandra is surprisingly easy, even easier than Gwyn if you tried to parry Gwyn to death.

Great list. But i think Slain back from Hell and Valfaris are both worth mentioning, as they are way harder than Cuphead or Hollow Knight. Only if they were more known... Also thanks for mentioning Spelunky and GD. Great games!!!

Just to let you know. There is a Valfaris sequel in the works. Played the demo during the last nextfest. It’s really good and he completely reinvented into a gradius style game. Should definitely check it out. Can’t wait for the full release

The Time it took me to complete one game has been amazing. Zelda: Breath of the Wild is an amazing game that has lots of fun mechanics. Since it came out I frequently played and then kind of forgot about the game. About three to four years later I finally start playing again. Only after the new game came out, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, did I finally beat the final boss (On my first try) and beat the game. I can't wait to finish Tears of the Kingdom.

Battletoads cane out in the 90s and thus not in this century. Rare made so many difficult games though. I played Banjo Kazooie and Tooie recently and can’t believe those games were made for children. Both games were very difficult

One of my personal honorable mentions is actually a Legend of Zelda game. Legend of Zelda Breath of The Wild. while it does get easier over time it starts out incredibly hard since all enemies can kill you in one hit making the dodge mechanics that much more important and even in the late game when you have your heart counter maxed out dodging is still crucial since one hit from an enemy can take out half of your total health.

Regarding Nioh 2 at #19, I think the first Nioh game should be on this list instead of its sequel because the first game was really difficult especially when doing dual boss fights in side missions. Nioh 2 on the other hand was a lot easier to play, dual boss fights became rare, players who played Nioh 1 already knew what to expect going in(just a little adjustment because of the added mechanics in combat such as Yokai Shift, Yokai Skills and Burst Counters)

Yeah, no. Crash 4 may have deserved a bit higher on the list, but not #1. I'm not sure if you could understand based off just looking at it, but the top 5 especially is so brutally difficult you could not believe, at the highest level.

Should've been at least an honorable mention for Metroid Dread. Difficulty in said game stems from the bosses and the stealth segments in the E.M.M.I. zones. The latter of which can be next to impossible if you suck at stealth tactics. While the acquisition of the Phantom Cloak DOES mitigate this, it's ill-advised to rely on it due to the fact it starts sucking up your energy reserves once you run out of Aeion. Reason boss fights can be difficult is because it feels like half the time their AI set you up to take hits. Notable examples of this are the boss that gives you the Storm Missile upgrade and Raven Beak.

You forgot DCS. It's a flight simulator where they simulated every single button and gauge in military aircrafts, so to do even something as simple as taking off, you need about 4-5 minutes to press correct buttons, set toggles and use displays to do it correctly like a pilot would.
