A better title for this would have been “1980s Bands and the songs they’re best known for”. I was stationed overseas for most of the 80s and a lot of these groups had multiple hits outside of the US. Thanks for putting the list together, it reminded me of a lot of songs I haven’t heard for years.

I can only assume this list was compiled from billboard hot 100 as bands like Spandau Ballet had a lot of hits in UK but perhaps not in US.

Don't you get a good laugh when people who did not even live during these times try to tell you what was a one hit wonder? MANY of these groups were quite well known; you cannot go by what songs are repeated over and over by today's radio stations. Try listening to replays of the Top 40, on Saturday and Sunday mornings (6AM PST); you will see what many of us are talking about!

Since one hit wonders are artists who either are NOT as big as Prince, Michael Jackson, or Madonna or NOT KNOWN for another song, some latter favorites of mine include "Toy Soldiers" by Martika, "Shattered Dreams" by Johnny Hates Jazz, "St. Elmo's Fire" by John Parr, "Baby Love" by Regina, "Tarzan Boy" by Baltimora, "Something About You" by Level 42, "Your Love" by the Outfield, and "Life in A Northern Town" by the Dream Academy just to name a few.

Spandau Ballet had numerous hits in Britain and Australia. And One Night in Bangkok was part of the musical Chess, with music written by Benny and Björn of ABBA, so it's basically an ABBA hit in disguise! Was number one in Australia when ABBA were at their lowest ebb of popularity!

It's listed as #1in the Eurochart Hot 100 and #2 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and several other high positions in lists of european countries. Hardly a one-hit wonder!. The definition of a "one hit wonder" is that they ACTUALLY had only ONE hit, not a few! Also if a band didn't have more hits in the US but DID have multiple hits in other parts of the world like the whole European union, then it can't qualify as a "One-hit wonder" that would simply be a bogus qualification!

Most of these people on this list are just that. They had their one song which was on their only album and the only place you will find that song or album is at a yard sale or a Goodwill. And that's if you are lucky. Europe, Aha, are still huge around the world. Heck, one if the Geico commercials have Europe. Survivor didn't tour as much because the lead singer Jamison passed away from Canncer. And as for Survivor, I can name 3 songs without even researching that were hits that were not Eye of the Tiger. In fact more just came to mind. Burning Heart - Rocky 4. Moment of Truth- Karate Kid Soundtrack. Is This Love - When seconds count album. The Search is Over- Vital Signs Album. Trust me, I get it. And Murray was in fact one hit wonder in the 80's, but not in his whole career. Many hits in Europe. Even in the US Billboard Top 40, he scored two hits (One night in Bangkok and Jesus Christ superstar). Same thing about the norwegian group A-ha.

Ok guys, I think I know what's going on here. I think what the person who posted this is defining as a "one hit wonder" is an artist who only had one NUMBER ONE hit on the U.S. charts. So no matter how many #2 or #3 or other top 100 hits an artist had, they could still end up on this list. It's a little misleading though cause I think what most of us mean when we say one hit wonder is an artist who only had one song that even made it to the charts at all.

Even that doesn't work, though, as not all the songs on this list hit #1. ("In a Big Country", "I Ran", "Whip It", "and "The Final Countdown" just to name some of them.) "You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)" didn't even make the US Top Ten (it peaked at 11).
