I was emotionally scarred by Mr. Toad's Wild Ride when I was about 5, my grandmother decided it would be a funny prank to tell me that I was actually the one driving the car and I should be very careful to drive safely. Upon the crash and the hell scene I promptly had a sobbing breakdown because I'd been sure that my terrible driving skills had 'broken' the ride and that I was actually about to go off the rails and perish.

I, too, had a similar childhood trauma with an attraction. Many years ago, when the movie Bug's Life was popular, Disney's Animal Kingdom had a 3D featured experience. My family urged me to tag along and 'enjoy' the ride. Long story short, when the Grasshopper character appeared on the screen, I cried and cowered in my seat. Evidently, my grandparents thought my reaction was hilarious. F "Bug's Life." This is NOT a kid-friendly movie - although I suspect most of my hatred stems from the disturbing scene when the antagonist Grasshopper beats the tar out of Flick. So, I empathize with your scary, most un-enjoyable time on a ride. I vaguely remember Mr. Toad's storyline, but I'll probably need to refresh my memory on that and other such films back in the good ol' days, like The Rescuers, and The Great Mouse Detective. Perhaps I'll regale this morbid tale to my therapist in the next session.

As a Dutch person, I am happy to see the Efteling on this page. Fata Morgana, built in 1986 is still the best dark ride. As a child and today, we paid regular visits to the Efteling. The giant (jinn?) in Fata Morgana is scary, but as a kid there were more other things that scared me. The crocodiles that come at you from the water. The guards shooting at you. The patient in the dentist's chair. The dungeons with prison is indeed the scariest part. Especially the cells with prisoners, the rats and the guy with a vulture on his shoulder. The tilting room with snake head and lasers . 1 part of the ride was definitely the most scary for me is not mentioned. there is this dark corridor where the boat makes a turn. There is nothing there just emptiness and blackness and it gives you chills because the temperature actually drops because of air fans, your hair moves in the wind and you can hear the cold wind howling as your boat moves to the next gate, not knowing what comes next!!

Eerlijk we hebben goede keuzes met De Efteling, clasiekers zoals Spook slot, Droomvlucht, en De Vogel Roc tot nieuwere naamen zoals Vliegende Hollander. Ik ben het met je eens dat Fata Morgana De beste is, maar all deze attracties verdienen een hooge plaats op een Dark ride lijst Tbh we have plenty to pick from in De Efteling, from clasics like Ghost fortress and dreemflight to the Bird Roc, till newer rides like the flying Dutchman Efteling has much to choose from. I agree that Fata Morgana takes the crown but all of these could crown a list of great dark rides.

yeah it's that way for a lot of rides.. the efteling one does it too i believe as the step in is this circular platform that keeps spinning. so if someone in let's say a wheelchair wants to ride it they have to stop it because it could be dangerous to not do so.. there is also the clown one that i believe also does a similar thing since it's all just one giant track though the fairy dream also has a similar concept there are places to the ride where it cannot really easily stop as it's kind of a downwards slide. i remember as a kid it stopping right beneath the djinn and joking to my mum that i hoped he wouldn't fart

I'm a born and raised Dutchie, and I've visited the Efteling quite a few times in my life by now. Fata Morgana is definitely amongst my favorite rides in the park (probably only beaten out by Droomvlucht), and while it's creepy and somewhat unsettling, I'm not sure if I would call it actually scary... although now that I think of it, it did make my younger sister cry when we were both still very young, and even I would look away from certain scenes where animatronics are being tortured... so maybe it really is lot scarier than I realize... Still, a #1 spot? Honored, but I'm not entirely sure about that.

16:43 I never thought I'd see my home park in one of these videos but BIG agree on Lewis and Clark's Big Adventure!!! I went to Oaks Park every summer as a kid and for some reason I rode this every year, even though it scared the crap out of me every time. (Probably because the line was never very long.) I looked up the video you guys cited and it is SO much more unsettling with the audio, I actually got goosebumps listening to those tinny speakers and the buzzing of the machinery again 😂 Haven't been in years, but I'm pretty sure the space where that ride stood is now either a cheap arcade or just a stage for shows and events and whatnot.

Hi!!! I went Universal's Mummy attraction some years ago. At the time it was a walk-through maze. My girlfriend and I were wandering through the maze. I was dressed in a brown leather jacket and my fedora. Out of a door sprang a worker, arms up ready to yell "BOO!" at us. His mouth dropped, he looked puzzled for a moment, then he quite friendly-like said "Hi!" He opened the door and said "Here this way." We walked through to the exit. I was puzzled for a while when it hit me. He thought I was Indiana Jones! Which was weird since Indy was not in the Mummy!

The original incarnation of Snow White's Scary Adventures really was terrifying. From the witch's piercing eyes to the jump scares it had me cowering as a small child. Such a good ride. We need more rides that evoke a healthy sense of fear. I imagine Karens ruined the ride instead of taking the opportunity to teach their kids a lesson on being brave.

To me entry 19 and 3 are the scariest something about decaying animatroinics that are supposed to be cherry are really unerving and gives me a real feeling of danger.

Phantasialand is one of my favorite parks and i can attest. As a child i was terrified of the Hollywood Tour. But honestly it's kinda funny as you get older. It's so bad it's iconic kinda? But it's one of those rides that were kept open while other more amazing stuff was built and will probably be renovated now as the other new stuff is finished :) I'm excited but also a little teeny tiny bit sad to see it go

And you can hold pretty good conversations with the random workers chilling where the guy is hanging from the ceiling. The one time I went in it there was a guy sleeping right at that spot and we scared him awake.
@Som21062 жыл бұрын
Ah, the good old Hollywood tour ... Remember one day the Alfred Hitchcock animatronic at the beginning had no eye balls anymore because they literally decomposed. And that scene with the Wizard of Oz was actually worse before. It was originally the set for "The Birds" and you could see a horribly looking animatronic woman attacked by birds and screaming in the most unpleasant way. You could even hear her still in other rooms later x'D It's the unofficial ghost ride of the park without question.

Awww...loved Mr. Toad's ride to hell. That part was hot as hell though, pun intended. Freaking humid heat we're just not that used to in Southern Cali but my friends and I got a kick out of that ride. I always thought there should be a ride, if there isn't, based on Stephen King novels like Pet Sematary, It, Misery, etc.
@clearhero74872 жыл бұрын
The fire during the mummy ride was the best. It cast over the ceiling and just sweltering heat just filling the room. Fear. Also the dementor fabric on the animatronic touched my leg and I almost perished. Edit: I like to imagine the people who see the dummy Jurassic ride and getting pancakes after like..that was odd

The previous version of the Haunted Castle at Santa Cruz scared me so much as a kid. I had to be cajoled into riding it and would keep my eyes closed to entire time. After the refurbishment to its current version, I’m old enough to enjoy it even though it’s objectively scarier. Though the last couple of seasons the turning mechanism at the beginning is apparently broken because I haven’t been spun to go down backwards since 2018. It’s a shame because it ruins that first scene when you’re pointed the wrong way (you see bits of light come through from the door, and you’re pitched uncomfortably forward instead of leaning backwards, and the set pieces are in the wrong places).
@Dangerfang2 жыл бұрын
the turning around part is broken!? dang it! i remember that part from riding the haunted castle back in high school! the guillotine part at the very end is the scariest part for me!
