I was a kid in the 70s and my Grandpa used to take me and my brother to the now defunct Pike in Long Beach, CA. There was a haunted house ride that had a real corpse as a prop that the public didn't even know about until the ride was used for a Hollywood production shoot. It was then that a crew member noticed something unusual about the prop who alerted authorities. Turns out it was the body of a man by the name of Elmer McCurdy who died with no family to claim him. His body was in the carnival circuit for yrs until it found its way in Long Beach.

Used to work at a little park, we had a "scary" ride called Hobs Pit. Mostly relied on live actors and one secret ingredient. The ride backed onto the staff room area. So if you were having a bad day, open the door and scream at customers for a bit, then go back about your day.

I would normally agree with this but the way they do walk through haunted mazes these days aren’t as good. Theres no longer any space between you and 100 people ahead of you and behind you. You see the scare actors way ahead of time and having so many people around you takes away the immersion of feeling like you are walking through the maze alone…
@Ronnie06spartan
@Ronnie06spartan Жыл бұрын
What might make these rides kinda scary is that in a walk through haunted house, you can always walk a little faster if you get too scared (well sometimes at least). But in these haunted houses, you're stuck in a ride seat moving slowly through the ride. You gotta wait for the cart to move through the whole house before you can leave!

If I could make a haunted house ride, I'd call it "10 Levels of Hell" or something like that. It would be comprised of 10 rooms, each scarier than the last. First room would just have dollar store Halloween props scattered around, second room would have some scarier Halloween costumes, with a jumpscare from one of them right before the Buggy enters the next room, third room would have blood and lightning effects with some animatronic spiders, and so on, until the ninth room which would be almost complete sensory overload of scary visuals and noises all relentlessly attacking the riders, and for the tenth room, there would be... Nothing! Absolutely nothing! Just a cold dark room the riders would travel through for about 10-15 seconds before the doors outside open and the ride ends. Tell me that wouldn't be the perfect topper to the scariest ride of your life!

Man, could you how absolutely insanely scary of a ride that Disney could make in the Haunted Mansions' settings? They take it very very VERY easy on us in the ride we see today (which I totally understand, it is meant to be a ride for the whole family of all ages), but they're fully capable of making the best all-out, fully terrifying, non family-friendly haunted house attraction ever built if they really wanted to. Yes, many of the rides here are pretty dang scary, but most of these rides are done on a low budget with some pretty shoddy-at-best scenes. However, if Disney wanted to put the money up and let the Imagineers get to work, they could make the Haunted Mansion into the scariest ride ever. Every time I ride through the mansion, I always see sooooooo many opportunities for GREAT scare sequences they could put together if they really wanted to do it. The HM setting and scenes are the best of the best, with impeccable attention to every single last detail; more so than any other parks in the world. So what happens when those people who make the best of the best attractions were to also try to make the scariest of the scary Haunted Mansion ride? Well, I think we'd probably all be shitting our pants lol. I mean, just imagine how scary the corridor scene when the Doom Buggy is carrying us down that hallway of doors could be. Ghouls popping out at you; live scare actors, the works. They got all the bones already there for making a terrifying attraction.
@noelepeterson2036
@noelepeterson2036 2 жыл бұрын
It's funny you say that because the haunted mansion WAS originally planned to be TERRIFYING, but they dropped it in favor of a more family-friendly tone. But, I think it would be SO cool to see it in all it's horror-filled glory!
@STSGuitar16
@STSGuitar16 2 жыл бұрын
@@noelepeterson2036 Oh yeah, I am familiar with that story as well. First haIf is more serious and spooky, and the second half is more silly. I was just thinking today about how much I would've loved to have been a fly on the wall throughout the entire process of creating the Mansion from the very earliest stages all the way through to the opening of the ride. I mean, I have seen a few docs on the creation of the HM, but I really just want to dive in as deep as possible into everything to do with creating that ride. While riding through, I always wonder things like, "hmm, ok those busts in the library are pretty cool, I wonder whose idea it was to put that scene right where it is, and what was their architectural and design inspiration for the look of this room?, or "hmm, I wonder who laid out the order of the rooms we see in the mansion", or "hmm, I wonder what interactions took place in the imagineering shop to make them decide to put this little insignificant table in this hallway?" that kind of stuff. For whatever reason, the insignificant props and settings on all Disney rides are so cool to think about to me. Many of those things probably started out their "lives" in a much different setting, but now they sit as an excellent detail in one of the best rides ever, being viewed by thousands of people each day. Just a fun thing to think about lol. Everything done was a totally conscious decision, and I just wish I knew what every single detail of every single room, including every single "boring office meetings" were like. It is just an attraction that completely fascinates me.

I've ridden Spøgelsestoget several times in 2016. I think the had already stopped allowing the actors to touch you, but they did a really clever loophole while I was there. From what I could tell in the dark the workers have string that they position to drag across your face/exposed skin, like an arm. I don't think it was anything preset as it didn't always happen and the timing wasn't consistent when it did. I thought it was really effective creepy feeling without being too invasive.

The scariest haunted house ride that I have ever been on was at a fair in Washington state. I'm sure it moves around- but that's where I was living at the time. I was very young, and had never seen anything truly scary before then. At first, I thought the ride was simply a more Halloween-ish version of the walkthrough Funhouse right next to it, and my parents wouldn't let me try it out. But after some convincing they finally let me, and I walked right on. There was no line, and I found the ride to actually be in a cart with a track. The cart was black, and might have had some ghosts on it or something, I don't quite remember. Anyway, the entire thing was filled with nothing but people getting executed in various ways, such as the electric chair, or someone's head getting ripped off by the upper part of their jaw. Sadly, I don't remember what it was called, but it haunted me for a very long time.

Every haunted house ride I've been on had several scare actors throughout, most also jumping out from somewhere, or jumping onto the the back of the cart, following it around, etc. Some ride vehicles didn't even have the cages, so I once accidentally head butted one of those actors when he jumped onto it lmao I'm based in Germany btw!

I would want a creepy ride dedicated to serial killers. It'd be creepy to go through a ride that displays the killers in the middle of committing their acts. THAT would be truly horrifying as a ride!

When I saw DAEMONIUM, I was about about to say I found this one not scary at all and immediately thought GHOST TRAIN should be on the list instead ! (finaly it is, and the 3rd place is well deserved for it haha). DAEMONIUM came only one year at Foire Du Trone instead of the really frightening GHOST TRAIN that comes every year since a looong time, and even if DAEMONIUM didn't scared me, I have to say this was the best executed and the most beautiful and unique hauted house fair ride I had the chance to ride. GHOST TRAIN only gave me the worsts nightmares of my life, this one is so scary that everyone freaks out just waiting in front of the ride. There is also KING KONG that should be on the list, the one with the big blue gorilla that makes all the ride facade. This ride is just too intense, the seats are so small, the turns are so brutal and the animatronics and jumscares appears at only 2 cm of your face... everything's here to make you feel you gonna die inside ! Anyway I'm so happy to see that you are also talking about rides in France 😁

i am impressed, a ride from my home nation of Denmark, yea that ghost train ride is really cool, plus there is actually a unique feature of the operators being able to turn up the horror segments if people want an exstra scare as in the group of clowns insted of standing still, they will instead rush forward with their movement activated, and the live actor is actually still a thing as i was there during this years summer vaction, as in the live actor was not used due to covid restrictions and was lifted due to covid not being such a huge problem when most people got vaccinated. but still nice to see all these different rides, but basicly "Spøgelsestoget" is translated to "ghosttrain" and is essentialy spoken "Spøgelses toget", but still good on you for atleast trying to speak danish

Rode SPOOK-A-RAMA in 2011. Must have been a very off day: a total of just 3 gags could be seen separated by long sections of total darkness and no sound fx or anything. Yes, just 3 visible items inside the whole ride. Good to see it's been fixed!
