I love the 1976 version of Carrie because the dynamic between Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie was phenomenal. What made that movie scary for me was that Piper Laurie was so convincing as an crazy, abusive, religious mother who has completely lost her grip on reality. Mirrors with Keifer Sutherland is a movie I've never been able to finish because it was so disturbing and terrifying.
@PoombaiNews2 жыл бұрын

I'm 54 years old now so confess I feel justified in saying that the 1976 Carrie movie, is STILL one of the BEST movies I have ever seen! I have watched a LOT of movies and I appreciate great acting - Sissy and Mr Travolta make their debut, and Piper Laurie and many others in this movie bring so much to this story and are TRULY amazing! Carrie was the first Stephen King book I read and I loved it. But, to me, this adaptation, is NOT a "HORROR" movie it's so, so, so much more than that! It is truly awesome and as someone who was bullied as a kid, I understand Carrie more than most. Think about it properly people - this is actually a really sad and touching story of a lonely girl who just wanted to belong.... ❤

Some of those shots as Ripley is running down the corridors and others when she is climbing up the latter and the camera is right there zoomed in on her face as you see her sweating bullets. My Dad said to me he went to see it in his 20s with his mate and his mate had to sleep with the light on for a week after watching it😂 Really comes down to desensitisation. Insidious scared the hell out of me because I unenthusiastically saw it as a non-horror fan with some friends when it was released in theatres. I've since come around to the genre, but that whole sequence with The Further was masterfully done and still frightens me. When the mannequin-like "family" in the murder scenes goes from stoic to creepily smiling with that discordant music in a stop-motion style? I burst into tears the first time I saw it.

The Thing is an absolute classic, but the Exorcist is head and shoulders #1. People were going to priests after seeing the movie, being sick in the cinemas. Linda Blair was not cast for years as people thought she was possessed. Many people on set or related to people on set died during the making. The set burned down, and they could never trace the fire's origin. Way too much crazy stuff with that movie. And it still holds up today.

Like the other said, Alien isn't great because of a female protagonist. However, in most movies today, the forced female hero is starting to get old. If movie makers want to take the time to build a character and add deminsion and purpose to their cause and motivation, and that character happens to be female, I'm on board. But this girl power movement just to be PC is spent. Alien did it right. Kill Bill did it right. I love the Avenger movies, but that scene at the end of End Game with all of and only the female heroes was trash. That was wokeness shoved down our throats and it was the low point of the MCU. And that's considering that there is a Captain Marvel movie and a Thor the Dark World to compare with.

The exorcist (1973) is hands down the most scary movie I have ever watched.😱 I had nightmares from just watching the previews on tv. I can't explain what in particular scares me. But from watching the documentaries, I discovered that all the little things the director did was methodically done on purpose to scare the hell out of people. Black Sabbath was also another scary one.
