We aren't "east coast", we aren't quite "midwest", we are Pittsburgh. A unique blend of many generations, cultures, and overall hardworking people. Not perfect (we have our fair share of problems), but a great continued work in progress. From glass, to steel, to what now is a city driven by our world-class technology, education, and healthcare industries. It's like a phoenix that keeps rising over and over again. Very liveable, affordable and a wonderful place to raise a family. Hope you make your way back again. You did a great job scratching the surface. Plenty more to explore and enjoy.

The Steelers, Kennywood, Mr. Rogers, these are just a few Pittsburgh things that aren't just things to see, they become part of the fabric of the city itself. Even the fire hydrants are black and yellow. Kennywood arrow signs are scattered throughout town. Mr. Rogers murals, quotes, and merch are everywhere. You don't get that same feeling in other cities.

I grew up in the northern panhandle of West Virginia. Just south of Wheeling. Wheeling is where the interstate first breaks off from our little route 2 and head towards the “big city.” To us, Pittsburgh was always that cool city of Oz on the horizon, two hours away. close enough to drive but far enough away to be special. Loved going there as a young adult when I had friends who lived in Oakland during college. We are from NYC, but retired to Florida. I've have been a huge fan of Pittsburgh for at least two decades. Pittsburgh punches above its weight more than any other city I have been to. For sports and museums, it's really works class. The food scene is impressive and it is one of the best looking cities in the country, very hilly like SF but without the smug, pretentious attitude. The tech scene is strong. Healthcare is great. And real estate is affordable. If I was young and starting out, Pittsburgh would be my first choice to settle down.

You should look up pictures of Pittsburgh bike racks. There’s a bunch of really cool ones all throughout the city. Just off the top of my head there’s a UFO and one that’s made up of the Queen lyric “I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike.” There was this guy/this goup that got a bunch of artists to create a bunch of cool ones to put throughout the city (alongside improving/adding bike paths) in order to encourage more people to bike instead of drive. It’s part of how Pittsburgh became so bikable in the first place. Also, hearing kielbasa said as anything other than “kabossi” or “boski” always throws me for a loop lol

Moved from Milan, Italy one year ago. I love the blue collar pride, the midwest kindness of people. Definitely an underrated city, especially to live in.
@whoopydingdong3138Ай бұрын
that is the the most tragic thing I have ever heard. what a downgrade. Also this is not the midwest and people here are not particularly nice. go literally anywhere else in the us not in the north east and not LA. blue collar people have no class and no culture. this is one of the worst places to live in on earth. it’s better to just visit for maybe a day

Thank you!! It's a hidden gem, always has been. Full of characters, great local band scene and clubs. I go way back to the days of the small punk bar The Electric Banana on Mt. Washington. The subway is more like Mister Rogers' trolley, so clean with classical music playing. A magical place!

@@hobojungle1 ignore that Pittsburgh troll down there throwing shade on everyone’s sunny outlook. Pittsburgh is what you make of it. There is plenty to do and it’s a city that still feels suburban. I’ve lived in Nashville now for 4 years and I’ll be honest……hate it. So overpopulated. Takes forever to get places. Downtown is a disaster at pretty much all hours because of the city’s lean in on full tourism. Nashville is the new Las Vegas and all they really need is the Casino to back that up.

Thank you for your glowing review. Pittsburgh is everything you showcase and so much more. Please come back and do a feature about our beautiful architecture (Cathedral of Learning - University of Pittsburgh, Phipps Conservatory and Greenhouse, and of course the many gorgeous churches). We are also a city with 91 neighborhoods; many still reflecting old world cultural heritage.

Important note that looks like may have been missed, there's an entire busline redesign project underway. We also have one of the only bronze-rated BRT systems (the east busway) in the nation, with construction of the University Line, which will serve Oakland and destinations east, just getting underway this year. Public transit in the burgh is getting a big facelift.

Grew up here, have been in many world capitals and big cities, lived in Manhattan, Philly, and Boston. Came back to Pittsburgh and haven’t regretted it a bit. It’s wonderful physically and has outsized art and food cultures. And, of course, great sports cultures. But you are correct that the people are really the big highlight. Somewhat less cynical and more open than in most East Coast cities, welcoming and generally warm and talkative. A big plus is that the fun here is *accessible*. It’s cheaper and more manageable than most big US cities. And Western PA also has lots of natural attractions, if you know where to look. Honestly, as a Pittsburgher, I’m always a little conflicted when I see videos like this. If this story gets too widely distributed, maybe it gets ruined by overdevelopment and increasing costs. For now, though, the balance is still fabulous.

Diners: I agree with everything you say about them. They are wonderful places to go to. This may sound silly to some, but one thing I do when I visit the US is have a burger at a diner. In my home country, ground beef served in restaurants has to be cooked well done. Of course people can cook it at any level of doneness at home, but I like to have the experience of being at a restaurant and having a burger cooked at the level of my choice.

I recently moved to Pittsburgh about a year ago and it has been one of the best decisions ive ever made. Every neighborhood is its own unique experience and culture to it and I keep finding more and more cozy spots as I explore further. We got set up with a house in south side slopes with a rooftop deck and everytime I sit out and look at the gorgeous night skyline, I am in awe.
