In the USA I would strongly recommend that you do NOT use any drug store or department store to process your film! Many/most of them will NOT give you your negatives, they will destroy them! Thus, there is no chance to get higher resolution scans or prints. They also do NOT process film locally, the film is sent to a regional processing lab, thus the turn-around time is just as long as if you had mailed the film to a full service lab. ALSO, the prices are not better.

That is good to know. Here in Germany we have a couple of chains which have contracts with larger labs. They are okay, but I prefer the direct contact with my lab of choice.
