Gladiolus.....the greatest bulb period....but especially the best warm season bulb (Corm).

Gladiolus are definitely show-stoppers in the summer garden. Those tall spikes of colorful blooms are hard to beat! You're spot on about them being corms, not true bulbs - good catch! It's a common mix-up, but you clearly know your stuff. Their ability to produce such stunning flowers in warm weather makes them a summer garden superstar.

In some places where I have lived, some of these plants have been horribly invasive, or in some cases, only some varieties are problematic. I don't know which to avoid where I am now (8b, Pacific Coast, Canada) but would appreciate caveats for the plants that have varieties known to be invasive generally in N.America.

In zone 8b on the Pacific Coast of Canada, here are a few to watch out for: English Ivy (Hedera helix): Can be invasive and hard to control. Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica): Extremely invasive and difficult to eradicate. Purple Loosestrife (Lythrum salicaria): Known for taking over wetlands. Yellow Flag Iris (Iris pseudacorus): Spreads quickly in wet areas. For safer options, consider native plants like Pacific Rhododendron, Salal, and Red Columbine. They’re beautiful and won’t take over your garden!
