My favorite genre. Nothing comes close to the sheer amount of creativity, challenge and gameplay variety offered by a good platformer. No narrative fluff, pure joy to play. It's the essence of gaming for me,

@@JJ_TheGreat I do play some RPG's, but platformers have always been my favorite type of gaming experience. It's mostly tied to nostalgia, as I started gaming back in the C64/NES era.

A equilibrium direct instinctive arcade action and rpg style gestion.. On beat em up and plateformers..adventure. I remember the old mickey illusion..the reboot.. Now..outside Mario..in recent stuff I dont know much. I would be happy to return on the oldschool feelling with a modern switch game.

I don’t know why developers are not exploring 3D Open world adventure games like Mario Odyssey, we see hard core SLIDE platformers, which isn’t really fun … the face of video game ideally be story driven open world 3D platformers … I could hardly find such games 😢😢 I really don’t understand why developers eyes are so blind 😵… Mario odyssey, Kirby and the forgotten land , Rachet & Clank rift apart , Bakeru are the face of VIDEO GAMES, these games hold the definition of VIDEO GAMES, They are the MASCOT GAMES, not ULTRA REALISTIC AAA games. Unfortunately we hardly find 3D OPEN WORLD ADVENTURE GAME

About time someone has 3D Mario to the top 5! Like I literally was in this launch line and didn't know why SOOOO many people were in line for this game being rereleased on the switch. Crazy!

A really great list, though I'd personally also add Spyro Reignited Trilogy, MegaMan Leacy(original ones), Kirby Return to Dream Land and Yoshi's Crafted World, but still quite a lot of truly good suggestions in the video

Good list. Check out Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series and Kaze and the Wild Masks on the Switch too. If you like Donkey Kong Country and Crash Bandicoot, you'll definitely like Klonoa and Kaze.

Odyssey is absolutely epic. I beat the game and won’t forget the feeling when I found out I was just getting started, and mario wonder is amazing too, also has tons to do after beating the main game. I wish sega had this kind of skill to bring sonic to this level, cuz superstars and frontiers can’t touch either of these

had to sub...just got the switch and modded it the same day. now, these games are awesome. Ori I would put up as number 1. I agree with almost all the games on here. Great list. Looking forward to the other best of videos.

The game Bzzzt is on sale at 9.99$ it's a fun, challenging and charming platformer. An ex employee from the company that created you believe that there is a super weapon being created and sends robots after you. You play as a cute robot that fights against him. I really like the challenge and new power ups as you go through the levels.

Great list, OJ! Only game I would add is Klonoa: Phantasy Reverie Series. Klonoa 1 had the most emotional story for a platformer IMO, and Klonoa 2's ending was just as good as the first one.

30:59 What you just said was my big issue with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. I know a lot of people love that game, but I felt that the controls weren’t responsive enough - especially after doing a spin jump, I couldn’t do my next move of my combo in time - which led to a bunch of deaths and frustration - of losing lives and repeats, when I felt that there was nothing I could do, it had nothing to do with me, but the game itself. I couldn’t get past World 2 in that game. That is why it is my least favorite of those type of Mario games.

I would love to find a platformer/MMO hybrid where i could dump countless hours into character development, something that had raids and dungeons with co op play. Like a WoW or ESO wrapped into a visually nice platformer. With PVP.

40:36 I liked Odyssey, but I didn’t love Odyssey. It had its nice gimmick of possessing creatures. However, to me, it was a one-off. After beating the game, while I could continue playing and go back to get every individual moon, for me, at least - I kind of burned out on it. Yeah, it is largely open world - but after beating the game, you end up just going back to the kingdoms which you went through during the game, so it could get a little repetitive. Also, there are some moons which are very difficult to get, which I probably would never get anyway, like the 100 volleyball one and the 100 jump rope one, so what’s the point of trying to be a completionist?… I am just rambling right now.

Megaman 11 is probably my legit fave game this gen. Its just too short and music is not as good as most megaman games.... aside from that the game is amazing

I think Sonic Mania, Rayman Legends, Cuphead, and Shovel Knight should've been higher on your list. Crash games are nowhere near the same level of quality, even though they're also fun.
