I think the actual spike argument against koma is more: "Because of the ward 4, the cleanest way to answer koma is typically going to be a sweeper. The tokens don't give any friction to this, as they will also get eaten by the sweeper. So, that part of the ability largely won't matter, as your ability to win with your giant dude remains about the same. Largely Koma will see play or not see play based on if playing a giant french vanilla creature is viable, and most standard formats say 'no' to that being the case. Not impossible for it to happen, but not likely. If they added can't be countered and ward 4 to gigantosaurus, would it see play? Same answer for Koma."

On the other hand Koma forces you to use a sweeper to 1 for 1 you or you will lose. Still i don't think the card is too good outside of a combo it's kinda slow.

@simonchi5372 so even if you use a sweeper to 1 for 1, you're even on cards and up on mana. So it's not really a downside. The typical reason sweeping 1 creature often feels bad is that you've lost both the theoretical CA of removing multiple things AND are typically at either close to Mana neutral or spending *more* Mana than they spent on the creature, not to mention any etb value that was had. And ofc, the sweeper also answers whatever else they had in play too, so the sweeper still has a chance to be more than a 1 for 1. Typically creatures that rely on attacking for their "bonus value" can overcome this a bit if they can narrow the window when sweeping is neutral value to one turn, but with Koma you get basically two entire turns if you can stomach the hit from it. That's why saying the on damage trigger does nothing to really increase its value is relevant. Compare it with a conceptual Koma that just drew a card when it attacked (using for simplicity in the example). At that point, getting a turn of attacking with Koma *does* provide an upside angle that means once the window has passed, you're now down on value for sweeping. It sounds like you'd probably also agree with me that the draw a card version would also be too slow, though. But my point is that you can ignore that part of the text box in terms of evaluating Koma's viability. It's technically upside and in some situations it can even win you a game that you'd otherwise lose. But the vast majority of the time, it's just not going to be applicable. Either the rest of Koma is enough, or it isn't.

I genuinely could see it at like... 6 maybe? But not 7. It's too slow to be reliable at that late stage of the game, even with the ward 4. Now if it had haste swapped with either of the two keywords? Maybe, but even then only against decks that don't have good board clear.

I’m so happy to see Valkyrie’s Call on this list. I played an Orzhov reanimator deck at my prerelease draft and won two matches 2-0, in no small part due to that card. The fact that it lets you block with impunity, then everything comes back WITH FLYING and +1/+1 can REALLY turn a situation around.

Dev. Not sure if you read these but a card that I have found is surprisingly good when abused the right way is Imprison in the Moon. I managed to make a lot of copies of it and sank them by turning all their lands into colorless mana producers. Cut them off at the knees. I was shocked because I didn''t realize how good it was. Hint:Calix/Extravagant Replication....

It should be noted that a lot of these cards CAN NOT be found in regular playboosters. Things like Hinterland Sanctifier and Vengeful Bloodwitch only come in the Starter Collection, (and perhaps Jumpstart/Collectors Edition?) The Foundations products are super annoying with so many exclusive places to get specific cards. Something to keep in mind when trying to get specific cards, or even wondering why you're not finding any Darksteel Colossi in packs.

I have to disagree with the Layline Axe I had it in two of my three prerelease kits and went 3-1 every time that axe came to the field I won even when it wasn't in my hand that thing is nasty. With Twinblade you only have to target the creature and Twinblade goes to the yard as well, with the Axe you just equip it to the next creature or they target the axe and you keep your creature. Now granted I'm a fairly new player and never got to play with Ember cleave also mostly play draft but I will be 1st picking it every time I see it. Great content love your intro!

Great list but the commander viability and the standard viability makes the list kinda wonky. Like Rite of the Dragoncaller looks great for commander but horrible for anything else. Maybe that is just a side effect of this being a base set with a lot of slower cards. Great content overall though, you've really been pumping out the videos recently, hopefully you can relax soon. Sadly, pioneer vampires is no more. They banned it out of the format. The real reason the rabbit might see modern play is its toughness. Modern had been hostile to x:1s for some time. The toughness being 2 makes it a reasonable play over the other sisters. It is notable the others trigger whenever a creature enters, not just your creature.

I agree with almost all the positive points, but I do think EA takes one step forward and two steps back. For example, I don’t like the menu this year, and the social media overviews make no sense. My AI teammates don’t find space or make any runs in behind. The league table overview is not clear, and you also can’t sort well if you want to rank by, for example, age in your squad overview where your “squad” is displayed. I miss features that were already present in PES 6. I still remember in 2005/2006 when I bought Hasselbaink in Master League, he retired, and in his final game, I subbed him off around the 70th minute. The crowd gave him a standing ovation, and even the commentators talked about it. This was almost 20 years ago, and it has always stuck with me. Come on, EA, surely you can do the same?

Everyone already knew Blood Artist was busted, and this is just a strictly better card. It's even an outlaw on top of it all, meaning Shoot the Sheriff won't remove it.

Obviously it's a much more important bit of text in formats like commander but triggering when your opponent's things die is part of why I like Blood Artist to begin with. I don't think you can simply say it's a strictly better card.

It's not strictly better, but it's an Outlaw, so it could be situationally better in the current Standard. Blood Artist is still the much better card overall, and would go a long way towards punishing Boros in this meta. Also, the 0 power on BA could prove useful vs. Cacophony Scamp and Heartfire Hero to deny death triggers if they can't trample over.
