I read that it is WAY too obsessed with the classics JRPG like Chrono Trigger, Xenogears ,. the story would be a bit of a hot mess. Putting out twists one right after the other like some coked up Night Shyamalan. Also the gaming systems would be the same : too many ingredients resulting , not always perfectly implemented, resulting in an obtuse system It’s like : impressive effort for a one- man project, not bad and sometimes pretty good but inconsistent/pretty rough.

@@plgjp83 I definitely disagree. It’s very well polished, paced and isn’t perfect but it’s really really polished and only is inspired by and 100% is its own game. I’ve played all the classics you me too we. Xenogears is my all time favorite and its most like that game at heart but is much more 16 bit with a mature storyline and is its own combat for sure.

Definitely recommend just trying it yourself it’s quality and not much to lose giving it a go with an open mind. It’s quite a game. Surprisingly was my son’s favorite game of 2022, along with Elden Ring. Didn’t expect him to like it like that at all and neither did he. He had no reference to past games like we do besides a little Chrono Trigger, Xenogears and shining force. He never saw the similarities I did when I had played it before him

I think pixel art is favored so much because realistic 3d graphics takes loads of work by animators and 3d artists, now with AI that is going to change. I still will be chosing pixel art though.

The art may look plain to some people and the game plot and play style may be simple, but the efforts and passion behind the making and continuation of the game is unquestionable. Eric Barone singlehandedly (re?)popularises indie game development, and he lets the gaming community mod it to their tastes. Now he has a team that dedicates their time to update it for free. I'm broke af but I still pay to own it on my laptop just to honour the man and this game. You just don't see such people and such a game these days.

the title is very misleading, since the video is only counting modern pixel art games, because im gonna be honest, games like legend of mana, alot of capcom/snk and some indie pixel fighting games, valkyrie profile 1 and breath of fire 4 would absolutely take the top spots. as a side note, i feel like talking about pixel art and not mention guilty gear(the original) is almost an insult to pixel art history.
