I like single player experiences so much partly because not having many friends growing up, I really treasured the games I spent my time on alone and to me, a novice collector, a game who's features depend on internet connection and other players losses replay value across time. To me a game is a memory you can revisit any time you want

Solo games loses replayability much faster imo. One you finish the 50ish hours of gameplay you dont have much else to do. Maybe do 3 or 4 replays if you are a hardcore fan. But thats about it. Online games wont give you that new game discovery feeling. But you can play them infinitely because you can increase your skills infinitely. Though less chill they allow for more gaming time. Plus they are more likely to get regular updates and content.

As someone who has had a very busy life, finding time to play with others was always a challenge; the ability to just sit down late at night (1 AM or 2 AM) and finally relax with a single player game was always a real treat. They’re becoming so rare these days, a truly sad thing... thanks for this list!
@okawakurosaki55932 жыл бұрын

@nurcirino2 жыл бұрын
They're not getting rarer, it's us who got older and our tastes who got way more refined. Nowadays our free time is limited and scarce so we don't commit that easily to new games. That's normal because quality triumphs over quantity. I play like 2/3 games a year now but they're the absolute pinnacle of fun and addictive gameplay. Not wanting to sound like some old guru but it's what it is. Adults have varied, different refined tastes and videogames are simply one of them now, not the center of it all.

I do like playing CoD or BF sometimes but for the most part, I actually think gaming is more fun when you're on your own. Like you said, you become part of the story and that is really really fun. Ghosts of Tsushima is one that I really got back into. I started it on PS4, never finished it, then I heard how much praise it was getting with the Director's Cut PS5 version so I got it, and I'm enjoying it again. Then, I don't know what I want to play. I'm trying to go through older games that I played but didn't beat, and finish them off. Like Horizon. The first one. I never beat it. So that's one I'm playing here and there. I beat Nier: Automata but then I heard that to get the real ending, you have to play it again. So I want to do that. I'm also playing Outriders on XBSX. I think I like the PS5 better but they are both great. Anyway, all that to say, I agree. LOL.

Exactly. Being an adult makes it hard to be a gamer and I'm so far behind on the titles. I'm just now picking back up on ghost of tsushima. Hell I just now beat bloodborne and dark souls three over the last year.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. I mean yeah, the main attraction of that game is the 4-man squad multiplayer section, but there are plenty of single player things available. All of the hunts can be done either single or multiplayer, with difficulty that scales depending on how many people are in the game, so if you really wanted to, there’s nothing stopping you from playing the entire thing by yourself. Also the expansion really improved on the base game, they didn’t take anything away and added a ton of stuff that addressed the annoyances of the base game.

THANK YOU!! Oh my goodness, it feels like everything nowadays is built for online play, pigeon-holing me into mainly JRPG's, which I love those games, but I knew there had to be more out there. I already know I'll be watching this video again to write down the ones I want (Cult of the Lamb has been played by a KZbinr I watch and I'm interested in getting it). I'm also really happy that many of these are still being released on PS4. For once, I'm not being left in the dust the moment a new console comes out that I can't afford. So many people can't afford the scalped prices of the console that I'm not alone in still being on the old gen and game developers are thankfully keeping that in mind. Huge thank you to them for that.

Im a little surprised Steelrising didn't get a mention. Despite the stupid name, I preordered it to get my hands on the beta, and it really is amazing. I absolutely cannot wait for Lies of P, but Steelrising might be the best Souls Like Ive played outside of the FromSoft catalog. Thymesia was alright, the combat was fun, the rest of it was pretty threadbare, not the case with Steelrising. It brings a level of uniqueness in the mechanics and the story that separate it from any other bog standard "Souls Like." It's also a little easier, a little more accessible I think, which, great for a wider player base, I think some will find it not challenging enough. Overall though, this game came out of nowhere for me after the Gameranx Gamescom review video and quickly turned into my most anticipated game of the year. Well, after Atomic Heart, naturally. Cannot recommend Steelrising enough. EDIT: It really seems like Steelrising is not getting a lot of coverage. There isnt a ton of content out there about it and I really think it's going to catch a lot of people off guard with just how good it is.

For some reason, either because they aren't marketing it much, or maybe a general bias against souls like games, but yeah most sites are that interested in it right now.

Thymesia was a huge letdown. Lies of P had me charmed until I got to see the available gameplay and find out it plays as a forgiveable version of DS1-DS2 in terms of difficulty but with weapon crafting and, as a redeeming quality thus far, a kind of interesting weapon degradation system. Steelrising has potential but could notice its in need of some polish on the animation and gameplay balance (e.g. Frost Damage is broken), but seems as the one with the most potential of the bunch. And personally, in regards to Steelrising's (or Lies of P's) coverage: There's a general disatisfaction with soulslikes, because they're quickly becoming a dime in a dozen while most fail to make that formula work and/or to be unique enough to stand out on their own instead of near carbon copying one of the FS games. The consumer eventually is burntout from the fatigue. Add FS game being synonymous of contemporary high difficulty in a day and age were players mostly want casual entertainment and the demand of accesibility with no results turns into disdain.
@ChadFromSpace2 жыл бұрын
@@diegosaez4885 could not agree more. With most of your post. I played through Thymesia, but I didn't love it. I did it because I had nothing else going on and it feels very empty from start to finish. As for difficulty and shameless copies, yea, most of them are substantially easier and bring very little uniqueness to the model. Mortal Shell was a standout. The hardening mechanic was loads of fun to mess around with but even that game got very easy after a few weapon upgrades. None of the 3 area bosses even killed me my first time through. Frost damage is pretty broken in Steelrising at the moment, I imagine it'll get fixed. Especially when compared to the near impossible task you'll have trying to light enemies on fire lol. I honestly think the animations are ok. There is, I "think", an intentional jankyness because we are dealing with non fluid automatons.

Awesome list. This is the kind of thing I try and show people when they say good games don't come out anymore, and the game industry is dying. It drives me crazy because it's the worst mentality you can have to the gaming industry. They're the same people who will go out and buy those shitty games and complain, but won't support and celebrate the good games. If you don't punish bad work, and don't reward good work, what do you expect to happen? The worst thing in the gaming industry is the players themselves. I, uh, kind of went on a rant here. My bad.

@@rigdigwus Completely missed my point. There's no problem with disliking games or bad practices. The problem is when you don't support the good games or good practices and condemn them all equally. If you only punish and don't reward, where is the incentive to do better?

Good and bad games are subjective and there are games where you won't know whether it will be good or bad, like Callisto Protocol. So there's really no way to know unless a reviewer reviews honestly but even that could be opinionated if the game is actually playable. Of course, the games that are not playable can be improved too, like No Man's Sky so who can say? I'd rather they come out playable out of the box, like the old games. Hell, I only play PS2/3 games nowadays so I am not affecting the gaming industry at all, at least I am not "ruining" it so I am not part of the problem and that's fine. I am catching up. If there's something people shouldn't support, it's bad practices like micro-transactions and loot boxes which most gamers are against already. Anyways, people just need to look hard and find a game that they like, instead of saying that there's no good games anymore. If you want to stop people from buying games that you don't like even if they aren't "bad", then you aren't any better. In my opinion, as long I enjoy a game, it's a good game for me no matter what some random person says. I'd say the developers with bad practices are the real problem. Nothing is going to be perfect and that's ok.
