Crissyann, go talk to the mayor and get him to fix those god awful streets in downtown meridian. Better yet rip them up and start over. Otherwise a beautiful city.

@Remnant Girl I love Meridian but those streets are not fit to drive on. They will wear the suspension on even a new car out very fast. I believe those are the worst city streets I’ve ever seen. It’s been 2 years since I was there. Maybe they have fixed them by now. I hope so because I want to go back to visit again soon.

My dad met my mother there when he was stationed at the naval base. Later when my mother and i lived with my grandmother in the Zero community, I went to Clarkdale for my first grade year 1970. My granddaddy worked forever for Hall Chevrolet. We went to 1st Church of God during my young years. Friends with the pastors family, their daughter and I were friends. I remember spending the night with her (in our adolescent years) we snuck out at night and went to highland park and found our way into the carousel (there was an enclosed carousel in the park) - I thought that great but scary fun to see the carousel all dark and quiet. There was a pool somewhere around there, and one night we met up with some of her male friends. I was scared of them. I was still pretty young and afraid of a lot of things. They (pastors family) lived in a very big white house. I’ve always wished I could see that house again. My mother is buried in magnolia cemetery. Oh the memories… I hope to drive through meridian again.

I was there last year and will always remember how bad the streets were. Meridian Mississippi has the worst streets of any town I’ve ever been in. A person would wear out a brand new car fast driving on the rough streets . I could tell they haven’t been fixed in many many years. I would never go back for this reason.
@601TRAVELS3 жыл бұрын
I agree the streets in meridian are bad, but have you ever been to Jackson?
@JohnDavis-yz9nq3 жыл бұрын
@@601TRAVELS yes I was in Jackson as well. I went to the state fair. I didn’t notice the streets were bad but I couldn’t believe the streets in Meridian. They are so bad that they need to rip them up and start over. There really is nothing to fix. In England they drive on the left side of the road. In Meridian Mississippi they drive on what is left of the road.

They are still awful !!!!The streets are only fixed during election time 😩
@JohnDavis-yz9nq3 жыл бұрын
@@lauren8165 that is sad for a city to let their streets deteriorate like that. I was wanting to go to the downtown area but after driving a couple of blocks in my travel van I turned around and got out of there. I sure would not want to purchase a car that had been driven on those streets. The suspension on a brand new car would be wore out in no time driving on the streets of Meridian Mississippi. The streets in the downtown area have not been re paved in years if they ever have. The city should be ashamed of itself.

Well I think it’s because of the descendants of the founders of meridian and other current landowners(large acres of land) kinda slowed down the progression in meridian. Back in the late 1800s & early 1900s it was a thriving city all the way up to the 70s. And then it was ordained the “retirement city” It really had a lot of potential

That is one theory. Look up EH Dial. He wrote a play in the late 1800s in which he called Meridian, the Queen of the east. I only recently read that. I was looking up info re: the old house that his family built. It was used as a hospital during the civil war, but was torn down. It was very close to Merrehope. We used to play around those houses in the 60s as children before Merrehope was renovated.
