I love my Ruger SP101 revolver with a 4.2" barrel. I bought it as a trainer pistol and kit gun. The trigger is very heavy in double action and wasn't smooth a first, but a couple of detailed strips and some light buffing of action surfaces with a felt pad and some very fine polishing compound got it super smooth and clean. The single action trigger was always very crisp. It holds 8 rounds and if a round doesn't go off just pull the trigger again. Great for training trigger control in double action, very carryable despite the longer barrel, incredibly soft-shooting because of the all-steel construction, shoots anything from the wimpiest .22 short CBs to hypervelocity .22LRs, and is plenty accurate for small game hunting at short range. Finally, adjustable sights make it easy to dial in any ammo you care to shoot and being a revolver you don't have to worry about safeties or magazine issues.
@alanderson97115 жыл бұрын
Cristian Espinal -i could have written that almost word for word. Bought a few Sp101s and had a trigger job done on each. So smooth you only want to shoot double action and with practice anyone can be. 9/10 ring shooter. Nothing to jam, if it doesn’t fire just pull the trigger again while smiling. Helpful Tip: a brass brush with chrome polish and like magic cylinder rings disappear; always wear latex gloves when cleaning.
@cristianespinal99175 жыл бұрын
@@alanderson9711 yea man, 100% agreed. I enjoy mine so much that I went from not being a revolver guy to getting ready to buy a 4" SP101 in .357 Mag and a little .38 J-frame. After thousands of .22 rounds and many times more reps of dry-fire with the SP, I find that I shoot DA revolvers better than any other action type. As for the brass brush and chrome polish trick, I'm definitely going to try it. I use a brass brush and a little solvent right now, but it takes a ridiculous amount of elbow grease and I never get every last bit off.

Cristian Espinal -got the 3” and the MC 4”. Wife had a Smith 637 beauty, but was too hard on recoil for her and traded it for a Sig P238 with Crimson trace grips, hard not to buy one after carrying and shooting it but I still keep going back to the 3” which Should have come with Hogue grips and been named The Ruger Goldilocks .357
@cristianespinal99175 жыл бұрын
@@alanderson9711 you and your wife have some great taste in guns. I considered the 3", but it wouldn't add anything new for me. I can't pocket it so it would be a holster gun. My favorite semi auto, a .40 PPS, already fills its niche of a small holster gun. I carried my 4" .22 SP101 IWB a few times. I was surprised that it was very comfortable and didn't print. That sold me on the 4" .357 since I plan on it being a hiking, hunting backup, and target gun. The J-frame would be for deep concealment and when I just want to throw the thing in my pocket. I'm planning on the 638 or 642. Definitely not as good looking as the 637, but I don't want an exposed hammer for pocket carry.

The TX-22 is an excellent range/ target pistol. Taurus makes an upgrade competition model now also. The TX-22 fires really well and is not picky about ammo. The magazines are not $50 apiece; that's a huge plus! I bought a total of 6 magazines when the pandemic started to hit, and ammo started to dry up. This is my range warm-up firearm and the most used weapon to improve shooting skills with a pistol. Unfortunately, 9mm rounds are still about 50 cents a round; that's too much to fire 9mm pistols all the time. I then move to a 22lr rifle, then an AR platform 5.56 rifle. I wish I had a range closer to me that allowed shotgun rounds. My range only allows slugs, which are also too expensive to fire very often.

Keltec P17 is the real #1! $200.00, three 16 round mags, a carry case, tools for sight and gun cleaning and stickers... and it's more reliable than any of the guns you have listed imo.

I own a Mark II which I purchased in 1980 and only used penetrating oil to flush it clean because it was such a pain in the ass to take apart to clean. And it is still running good today. I take it to the range three time a week.

Strange that no one ever gives Browning Buckmarks any love. While Ruger is closer to the Lego of 22 pistols, you don't have to do anything to a Browning but buy ammo and extra magazines. What's the first thing every Ruger owner does, trigger job. Browning is right from the factory.
@bassiclogic6 жыл бұрын
I agree with you! I love my Browning Buckmark Hunter! Excellent trigger from the factory! Browning is better than the Rugers in my opinion, Easier to break down and clean also!

For the Browing Buckmark Vs Ruger Debate I'll leave it to the fact that The U.S. Navy Seals and CIA and many other Special forces Adopted the Ruger Series as a covert service pistol the Buckmark is great but when it comes to Tank Like durability and reliability no matter ammo type Ruger Takes it
@scotmetcalf27456 жыл бұрын
I have a Buckmark Browning was to teach my Grandchildren to shoot and it’s been very dependable put an aluminum barrel because at the time it was to front end heavy the only thing is you need the cleaning kit from Otis or take the whole thing apart (Two screws)for cleaning but otherwise been great. Ruger makes complete sense less moving parts ,bolt only and that takedown button is sweet engage button and bam barrel comes right off. Top of the food chain out of all of them
@brownass26 жыл бұрын
Eh idk. The trigger on the ruger is ten times better than a Smith and Wesson.

The bad oint in the sr22 is the tendency for the breach locking spring split to move out in firing. The back sights, being adjustable mean they tend to move when the gun is in use.

Excellent suggestions and advice. Just wanted to say that some cheap guns are still very easily handled, and are quite accurate. My first handgun was a Rohm Gardner. .22 of course, and it still works today as well as it being highly accurate. H&R also is a highly accurate weapon, and its not too terribly out of price range. Altho you can hardly find them anymore, there ae still a few around. how bout making a vid highlighting the H&R series. As I said, Great advice and great information. Best wishes and may all of your shots be accurate..

Have you had an opportunity to review the Taurus TX-22 yet? Curious to see what your thoughts are on that gun. I haven't shot one but I'm intrigued by the reviews I've read about it. From what I've read it's a pretty reliable semi-auto .22 and I believe it has a 16 round polymer magazine. I think it sells for about $350 (ish).

The backwards safety on the Ruger SR22 is the only thing I don't like. Up to fire down to put it on safe. Just the opposite of what it should be.
@drg9176 жыл бұрын
I agree. Why would someone do that. If I remember right, the Browning I think BD 9mm was like that.
@anthonycather80355 жыл бұрын
Yeah its the way they designed the the decocker saftey combo im sure they could have put some more engineering into it and got it right but then again Ruger likes to be different and its not a deal breaker for me dont shoot 911's or use external safties so no learning curve there . the comfort and feel of the firearm makes up for it plenty .

GSG 1911 is also a great option. Affordable and Great Looking with Exact weight and feel of a Center-fire .45 so it makes a great trainer for beginners. For controls that is not recoil. Its also just an Awesome Fun Plinker!

@deucedeuce22oz Each have their own place. And are always going have their Pros and Cons. Its what works best for you that matters. I still shoot my GSG more than a couple times a Month. I've ran at least 8000 round thru it . I've had a few failure's. (FTE) But that's to be expected from a Semi Auto. I run it suppressed as well which also causes its own issues. But even then I love it. It's damn fun to shoot.

Here in may/june 2023. I'd like to add the GSG Firefly 10 round mag, I'm a larger guy but it feels very comfortable in hand, it is very accurate, and looks awesome I have the FDE, railed, and threaded barrel version and it cost me less than $130. The only cons being less availability of extended mags.

I have a mk4. My first gun infact. Could not be happier. Shoots any ammo and well. That said they are not concealed carry pieces. They are target pistols. I knew that. I will say also that mk4 is a main stay, its the one everyone goes back to on a range day.

Try Tandem Kross for some practical upgrades for your Browning Buckmark. Recommend four parts are: "Victory Trigger" a straight profile trigger. The "Gearbox" replaces the sear spring. The "Fire Striker" firing pin that is made from titanium. The "Eagle Claw" extractor which is also made from titanium. Then the "Striplin guide rod" for the return spring. Make dissasembly easier. Also, a better steel that very slick for the spring, no drag. After installation you will get 3lbs or less trigger pull. Check out Midwest Gunworks for Browning Buckmark OEM parts. You can get 7¼" barrels. Two I recommend for absolute accuracy are the Bullseye and Contour barrels.

I have a Ruger SR22. Great gun! I also just bought a Ruger Mk 4. Piece of garbage! The sights on it suck! Even worse the trigger sucks! The creep goes on forever and ever! My brother just bought one. He has the same complaints! It will cost ne about $275 to correct these problems for parts and Gunsmith fees! Not good for a "target" pistol! It simply sucks!

Honestly I'm a tad surprised not to see a walther P22. Everyone I talk to praises it to no end save for some issues on older models or the P22Q(?) I think it was. I've used one myself and didn't really have anything to complain about, price tag is nice too. Of course I'm newer to guns, grew up around them and such but very rarely had the chance to fire them, so my experience is definitely lacking, wonder if I'm wrong to think the P22 is good in comparison?

I have a Ruger sr22. I like the smaller grip sleeve. It prints less. There's an extra round's space in the mag that's held up by a plastic post on the follower. Cut the post & get 11 round cap. You also have to trim the dingus off the follower cross pin though
