Not sure why you got so many thumbs down? Your video is spot on. I went through the same process and ended up lasering my hair transplants because they didn't look natural and it costs insane gobs of cash still (talking $10k+ easily). I didn't want to pay the additional 10's of thousand it would take to get to a fuller looking head of hair. Also, it is a very lengthy process and I didn't want to keep putting myself through that.

@DavidDiMuzio8 жыл бұрын
No, if you're "just a little thin" I wouldn't recommend surgery. Surgery even at it's best can only restore to about 50% of your hairs original thickness. Plus if you have surgery a lot of that thinner hair will fall out immediately from shock loss. Surgery should be more often used more to restore hair lines/temples and fill in areas that are very bald. You might want to try some concealer first on the thinning areas. I use DermMatch and Toppik together when I'm on stage under bright lights (especially in my crow) and it's like magic.

I live in France , originally come from Turkey. Its much cheaper in Turkey but be careful to find an honest doctor with a good price. I wish your to your husband a good happiness with hairs !
@signoguns85012 жыл бұрын
Dont go to Turkey. The turkish doctors are notorious for overharvesting the donor area, they have been known to use up to 3/4k grafts to cover very small areas. You only have roughly 4.5k donor hairs available. Once they are gone, theyre gone. That's it. Game over. One guy here on KZbin went to Turkey for a transplant to get some slight recession at his temples filled in. The doctors ended up using 3k grafts! 3k! The doctors wanted to use more, too- this guy has to talk them DOWN to 3k! Overharvesting will cause massive problems for your husband in the future, and he wont be able to have any more transplants to cover thinning areas as his MPB progresses. Which it WILL do. Drugs like minoxidil and finasteride dont work forever. For most people, they only work for roughly 5 years. After that, they will become much less effective, probably stop working completely. Please avoid Turkey. Dont let him get blinded by the big promises and dirt-cheap prices and extremely misleading "success stories." He needs to think in the long term. Where will he be in 5 or 10 or 15 or 20 years from now? My advice is just to give it time and be supportive. He will get over it. One day, he will laugh at himself for fussing so much over his hair. But try to avoid hair transplants. All they do it is delay the inevitable for a couple of years. Anyway, I hope my essay helps lol. Feel free to send me a message if you have questions. Best of luck.

Hi David ... I have had 3 FUE procedures and I have to say you are wrong about the donor area ... of course there is density lost but ultimately we want hair at the top and not at the back .... a good FUE extraction should look good even after 3 sessions ... and also I would do anything before having that tissue removed from the back were I have heard cases of tension on the scalp ... mmmm I don't think so Thanks you

+J Booth Thanks, I've learned a ton in the process. Just trying to share that here both in the positive and negatives sides of the process that I've discovered. As long as you make smart decisions (can be achieved by watching all my YT videos on the subject) and have the money to spend (My surgeries were around 12-14K each) 3 surgeries so far then a good looking head of hair on a previous almost bald (and would be bald by now) guy such as myself is achievable.
@V.Z.697 жыл бұрын
Seems like a myth, or a falseness, to say that FUT is good if you want several surgeries, but FUE ruins any chance for a good donor area and ruins any future surgeries. Cutting a strip out of your head and then stretching the scalp back and sewing it back together doesn't increase the donor area nor does it make it better for donating later on. Imaging a balloon fully deflated, color some dots on it and the dots are close together. The more air you blow into the balloon (stretch), the more sparse the dots will look. Same principle for cutting whole chunks out of your head and sewing it back together, the more sparse will the gaps between the hairs. In an earlier video you posted, you talked about having more hair on your head after surgery was the only reason you decided to do it; which was also false because it's moved around, and not grown in a petri-dish and it's not cloned and the follicles aren't split into two or three new hair follicles from one single follicle. Thanks for putting yourself out there though, not only have I enjoyed listening your your thoughts, but your music too. Iv'e typed too much so reading this might not happen.
@DavidDiMuzio7 жыл бұрын
There are a multitude of reasons as to why FUE is not a good choice for most people's first surgery. Many hair follicles are "killed" during FUE (even using those fancy machines). I've spoken with many surgeons who perform both surgeries and virtually all of them will give you this same info. If FUE was better why wouldn't everyone just perform that? FUE is actually a much easier surgery to perform from a skill perspective. Take some of the most well respected surgeons in the world (that I have no association with) like Hasson & Wong. Why would they even perform FUT (especially as the main surgery they do) if it wasn't generally a better surgery from the perspective of new hair gained by the patient? I'm happy to hear you've enjoyed my videos and music :) ...thank you for your thoughts. I'm just glad you're looking into all these questions :)
@V.Z.697 жыл бұрын
You handle other people's angst like a pro! The only thing I can think of why a business would offer FUT over FUE -- what a time saver. I'm thinking from a business perspective. Not that I know better, but if I was a physician selling my cosmetic skills and I get paid by the graft... Would I recommend unit extraction or a single sheet snip? Just saying. I've heard of cross sectioning into the follicles. But also there are physicians who use manual hole punches over machines. It's hard to weed out fact from fiction. It's like in the restaurant business which I worked all through college, you gotta sell those window seats next to the door; not only does it make your business look fuller, but if you can sell those seats near the door, the rest is gravy. Thanks for the extra information :)

@HairlossExperiences5 жыл бұрын
Hi David, I have to disagree with your comments on this video. Fue if done correctly does not destroy a donor area. Some patients can and do have one successful hair transplant, it all depends on patient characteristics, hair loss pattern, etc. As for pain, it depends on the patient's pain threshold. I was fine, as long as the doctor administers the right amount of anesthetic it should be near enough painless, usually just some discomfort when it is administered. With pain meds, you can have a pain free HT. As for just getting a scar cut out, you don`t explain if someone has a tight scalp, therefore making it too dangerous to excise the scar out. HT surgery has many complications and should not be taken lightly.

FUT has a lot of benefits that are not mentioned enough - FUT can more more hairs *succesfully* than FUE and your donor area is a limination that even money can not beat. FUE has a lower survival rate of hairs. - FUT does less harm to your donor area, as there is only a scar in 1 location. FUE leaves scars everywhere and makes the whole area less healthy, which has a negative effect on other hairs in these areas. The last thing you want to do is damage the area you're harvesting from - Most doctors will say FUE is better because they only do FUE, as it's a precedure that's cheap and time effective to learn. Of course they're going to promote FUE if its their only option - It is easier to succesfully cut away the skin around the hair roots with a strip and a microscope than harvesting the hair with root succesfully on your head. There were a lot more benefits, but its 4 AM in my country, so I need to sleep....maybe i'll come back here if anyone is interested in hearing more. I ve wirrten down all of these in another video, which I have to look up first (find it - i'm a messy person)

@PowerRedBullTypology5 жыл бұрын
@@Prahhhd Hi CallMehProd. Your welcome! If you are 19 and struggling with hair loss, that must be hard because you're so young. If I were you, especially because you're so young, I would start using certain supplements, because I strongly believe they actually help slow down hair loss. The problem though is that these simple supplements are not pushed much by any company, because they're not patented. However, there are ones that I strongly believe might slow down the process for you. I mention this, because if you keep balding at that age at that speed, then you will run out of donar area very soon, because you would need hair transpalnts soon if you want to keep hair on your head. "Zinc Picolate" for example is a good supplement that actually helps to balance your hormones (like male hormones like testosteron and DHT) and keep or get them in a healthier balance. By preference normal testosterone can be high, but DHT should not be high. Only when the DHT start to get high and your normal tesosterone lower in comparison, then balding happens. So for sure I would try Zinc Picolate from a reputable brand and use 150 per day and keep your dose relatively high (like solgar or something). Despite what is sometimes said about "normal" testosterone, in the end it's your friend and no tyour enemy because you're a male . Normal testosterone does not cause any problems. Once normal testosterone gets lower, people usually get DHT levels that increase. This is a respondse to a decrease in testosterone in the body, where the body creates DHT, which is a very potent form of testosterone, to maintain that balance (testosterone to estrogen ratio). So keeping your testosterone levels high in an tural manner will cause your DHT to lower. What is also good to try to eat food which is high in zinc, which are: - Red meat (by preference beef) - Oysters (high in zinc too) I'm currently taking an oyster supplement. FOrgot the brand cause I'm not home if you're intersted.. (high in zinc and it's natural form is usually bes absorbed by hte body) Basically there are 2 main minerals who are connected to male and female hormones. Zinc is the male hormone, which increases testosterone (in a healthy manner) and it's counterpart is Cupper, which increases estrogen. Cupper is higher in plant based food and zinc higher in any sort of animal food (like oysters, farm animals etc). So avoid food that is high in cupper, cause it will increase your estrogens and to balance that out your body will produce DHT to balance it out (so your average male hormones are still high enough to prevent your hormones from becoming girly) Men typically expreience less little ilnesses in their life like chornic ilness than women, due to higher tstosterone". However, once men get older, at the age of 50 their testosterone is typically radpidly decreasing and they start to get all sort of health problems and balding incresaesd radpily in more men. From that mment on men decline in health much more than women, who do have lower testosterone in value, but are actually made to have a balance of more estrogens than testosterone. Men are not made to have such excess of female hormones, which caues health problems and balding at hte same time.. Food like Soy is very estrogen promoting for example (no surprise to have so many transgenders in asia) Also try taking a *Dessicated Liver supplement* (like the brand *Ancestral* ). It contains real vitamin A, which also is (healthy) testosterone promoting in the body. Real vitamine a is *retinol* and not *Beta Carothene* , which is often told to be vitamin A (which can be foudn in carrots). However, it is very poorly absorbed by the body. Most plant based food is poorly absorbed, simply because our body and plants are not the same, while animal based food is easily recongized by our body, becasue it uses the same builsding blocks. So, despite recent popular belief that plants are very healthy and meat is not, this is not really true if you want to keep your hormones balanced out. Anyway, i just keep on typing stuff and I'm not even sure if you are interesting in any of this... btw: sure i can tell more about FUE/FUT , but in your case I would hurry with trying to see if you can at least partly fix the root of the problem so you do not run out of hair way, way early in your life. Then transplants may not even be worth it, cause when you're completely bald on top, it will be hard to get enough hairs from the sides, because at that time you only have about 50% of the total amount of hairs on your head, which will look thin. It's indeed good your hair is thick, espeically on the sides. This of course will increase the amount of coverage it will provide. Anyway..i just keep on going. haha..have a good day! and I Hope any of this is helpful to you

David: 1. At 4:31 you refer to FUT as Follicular Unit Transection, but it should be Follicular Unit Transplantation. 2. Many of today's top HT-clinics would not agree in your assessment that starting ones HT-journey with FUE is inferior compared to starting with FUT. 3. Luckily, many top clinics today do not require 4 or 5 surgeries to fulfill acceptable coverage in suitable candidates. 4. Behavior of FUT scar tissue varies from person to person, even in the hands of a qualified surgeon.
@DavidDiMuzio8 жыл бұрын
+longevitypost.com 1. Ok, but transection actually makes more sense since it's the cutting of a strip of tissue instead of extracting of individual follicles. 2. Maybe, but many would agree with me. I've spoken to manh of the world's top hair surgeons regarding this exact topic and question. 3. The key words being "Suitable candidates" and add "who are willing and able to take Finasteride the rest of their lives" to that 4. Yes, but some surgeons perform better closures than others, and (in the case of my second surgery where I aquired my largest scar) you don't always know the mental state of the person performing surgery on you, so it's important to feel 100% confident in who you choose and have good references.

That's actually how this FUE method works. In FUT method, however, they cut (yes, they cut) a slice with hair from the back of your head, put these grafts on it to where you want them to be (back of your head, hairline etc.) and then stitch the skin in the back of your head back normal. It's very nasty looking and leaves a big scar.

@DavidDiMuzio8 жыл бұрын
+charle007farley I haven't kept track actually. I've just had the maximum amount of tissue harvested that my surgeons felt comfortable doing for each surgery. I feel like number of grafts/hairs is not as important as the way the hairs are chopped up and who's doing the chopping. Lots of people have a ton of grafts put in, many die, are chopped up into smaller grafts than necessary, and it all leads to very little coverage. The most important thing is finding a surgeon who has produced great results (that you can prove) in others and then trusting them to do their best work on you. Watch my latest video "10 Questions You MUST Ask Before A Hair Transplant" video if you haven't yet. I think it's my most helpful yet.

Due to my OCD, I think I'd have a hard time getting a FUT and dealing with a scar and not worrying about it. However, one thing I have large abundance of and I hear can be used is body hair which I have a lot of an is not fine or short at all on my back and chest, and I would be interested in using that for a second or third surgery to fill in the gaps left from the major first one. That's if I ever get a job that can justify the cost of surgery.

+gutz1981 Could work if your hair is thick and dense enough there. Just most people's body hair isn't.
@gutz19818 жыл бұрын
Mine is unfortunately. Its long and straight too. Have to trim it regularly to keep it under control. Some say I should laser it, I wanna hold onto it to use later. Even if I don't use it on top of my head, I would use it to fill in the gaps (if possible) on the back of my head where the FUE took place for the top so as not to leave gaps and scaring. But I need to go see a consultant first to see how possible all this is.

what about PRP as it does not involve any removal of scalp hair or any other hair from body, seems like it is pretty safe produure and more effective than FUT and FUE Plus Minoxidil is efficient enough for hair restoration as long as it is used hair will regrow
@DavidDiMuzio7 жыл бұрын
PRP has quite varied results on men, and for things like re-building an entire hairline isn't very effective. If you just have diffuse balding in the crown it's probably worth a shot. Minoxidil causes very bad wrinkles on foreheads used over time in the front part of your hair. Notice mine. I've seen this on LOTS of young guys who have used Minoxidil for a long time. I don't use Minoxidil anymore, also it often causes scalp flaking.

Thumb up plus subscription! What is the technique that doctors use nowadays to hide or make the scar almost non visible ? Another concern, i was told by thé doctor that fut saving the donor area is a myth? Hé says skin is pulled down after removing that strip. So the hair above the fut line blongs to the non safe zone or area? Is that correct ? Thanks
@israelregulation11746 жыл бұрын
I really don't think the last two are myths. FUE or FUT depends on your donor area capacity, and the amount you would like to transplant. In addition, there is self-preference here since some patients don't want to have any scares after their operation. The fact that you claim the operation is painless just shows your opinion and lack of experience with various patients who went through FUE or FUT procedures. Each patient has their own level of pain, so it's completely individual regardless of the performing surgeon. By saying that at surgeon X it's painless vs. surgeon Y just shows that you do some kind of a promotion to your surgeon.

Was wondering how many grafts have you had in total so far? Thanks
@DavidDiMuzio8 жыл бұрын
+cforchange1 The two surgeons I've used haven't charged by the graft, they've charge by the square inch of tissue. There are two schools of thought on this method. In many ways it's better not to charge on a per-graft basis because it encourages surgeons to split up the hairs into smaller grafts which leads to more grafts but less density. On the other hand there are negatives to charging per-square inch of flesh as well because if a surgeon is greedy he might go lower than he should outside of the "safe-zone" in order to get more tissue in one surgery which means more money for that surgeon. I'm going to do another video soon on what to look out for when choosing a surgeon. There's a lot of behind the scenes stuff people need to be aware of so that they know the right questions to ask and proof to see before using a surgeon.

Hey. What's the name of the 3rd Dr and where is he located?
@geminidb657 жыл бұрын
I was severely Disfigured years ago with the Punch Graft Method, A Bi Temporal Flap and Scalp reductions and Strip Hair Transplants. Scarring is a problem with Strip methods even with the Tri Closure Method. I had corrective surgery and it took 12 Sessions. All in all I have had 30 yes 30 Surgeries from 1986 to 2010. I wore wigs in the 90s to cover up the Damage. FUE saved me and I do not see strip which was done way back in the 80s as the In Thing anymore. If you can get in writing and have an attorney read it that you will have no noticeable scar again in writing then go ahead. No doctor will guarantee this. They will say well if that scar bothers you you should have stayed bald. Trust me it will bother you so say no to strip. Get a good FUE surgeon and save your scalp. Strip strips your scalp and is no longer a technological advancement. Remember the cars and computers from the 80s? Well strip was around then before the Internet so that should tell you something. As far as density is concerned if you are balding at a young age get on Propecia, Use A minoxodil formula and get PRP treatments done along with using a Lazar light of some sort. Do anything before you get a transplant. Remember that the most successful ones are the ones where men have a lot of donor hair ( large Fringe) around the sides. If not you will never achieve a density that you will like. You will always want more. Been there done that and worked in Hair Replacement for several years. Be very Cautious. If you look at Dr Robert Bernstein who is bald and performs hair transplants that will tell that you must have good donor. He says it does not bother him but makes a very good income selling them. Would you buy a BMW from a Chevy dealer? Of course not unless it is used and you get some sort of warranty. With Hair Transplants you take your chances even with the best Doctors. Yes some are better than others. Mine does not have a legal disclosure but films you before hand on Video to tell you of all the risks and makes not Great Promises either. But he does deliver a great result. However a full head of hair is not possible with theses surgeries and please make sure you ask your Doctor about that. Ask him how the final result will look under bright lights? Sunlight, Coming out of a Swimming Pool. Yes the Hair transplant route can improve you and is way better than being bald but Scarring is a Possibility and please remember that!
@timothyhubert23054 жыл бұрын
Wow you got a good donor if you can do that much
@vincewarren12713 жыл бұрын
I disagree. If you have a great surgeon then the strip is still a viable option. You get so much more hair from a strip and it has a much higher survival rate as well. For people such as myself who are a Norwood 7; getting a strip followed by FUE is a great option to maximize the most hairs to move in one surgery as possible. I have nearly a full head of hair after just one hair transplant procedure. It was much cheaper to do it this way as well.

I'm pretty sure shaving your head takes less time than washing your hair, conditioning, putting on Rogaine twice daily, brushing / combing, and finally styling your hair. Shaving your head is pretty easy. I can see why guys would rather have hair though. I agree with them. I just don't think the amount of time it takes shaving is an argument. I think my hairline just started receding at 33 and I am trying to figure out what to do about it. I can't tell for sure but I have definitely noticed more hair falling out and a bunch of baby hairs at my hairline.
@JustMe-999a6 жыл бұрын
I've done both. It was way less work to keep your hair buzzed short. Tom Gordon is right on. I look better now, but I don't think it was worth it. Man up and cut it short. It takes less than 60 seconds after you do it the first time.

It takes me 10 mins to shave my head, so getting it replaced is not the "be done with it" option. Many surgeries that may or may not be painful. Thousands of dollars! I bought a Wahl head shaver for $20 and I use it for several years, and replace it when needed. So again, shaving your head is the cheaper and easier option.

@DavidDiMuzio8 жыл бұрын
You're not looking at all the potentials of what will probably happen. Yes, if you only have very minimal hair loss one surgery might be plenty. If you're 50 or 60 years old and you've lost most of what you will lose and you just want to create a slightly better hairline one surgery might be plenty, but if you're younger then you will most likely continue to lose more of your hair and need to fill in more space requiring multiple surgeries. If you go on Finasteride this could somewhat be prevented, but then you take all the risks associated with Finasteride and dependance on it. It's all a bit of a gamble. Just better to make a smart well informed gamble.
@davidxrod8 жыл бұрын
