I bought the Sony. Recently I had my 80's speakers redone. The tech replaced the 8 ohm woofers with 4 ohm (without asking me first!). I haven't used them with the Sony thus far, as it only specifies 6 or 8 ohm and any damage will void the warranty. Will the others be able to use the 4 ohm? I don't want to buy another receiver but the speaker repair came to just short of $500 and i'm very upset. Possibly to be able to use them I might look for another receiver if I could find something in my low budget that can use 4 ohm speakers. Thank you.

Not really. Still haven't gotten the finished speakers back ( I took them in for some other work - rear terminals, etc.) so I it may be past the end of the Sony warranty. After reading articles that the ohm number fluctuates quite a bit during music, I may use the 6 ohm setting on the Sony and try to be careful and take my chances. If it goes to "protect mode" than I know i'll have to do something. Haven't bought a new receiver as of yet. I will find out the results after he checks but I have a feeling the original CV woofers may have actually been 4 ohms and my NAD receiver at that time could 4 ohm with no problem. In the 80's I didn't know much about these things. Thanks for asking. @@Silvestian
