I picked up a pack of 4 coast headlamps white high and low a red and red strobe for less than 25 bucks two years ago. They have the yellow looking newer style led and are really bright compared to other budget headlamps. 2 AAA and water resistant. So far my favorite on a budget3

The sidewinder looks pretty good, i have 2 from Fenix the HLR60R and a smaller HM50R the 60 lasts longer using an 18650 battery but i use the smaller one the most , good video content.

I've had Petzl, and a couple others. My current headlamp is a Black Diamond Storm 400. Red, green, blue, and two types of white light. No steps in light output adjustment, infinite low to high adjustment. Rated for immersion up to 1m for 30 minutes. Four AAA batteries, and they last a long time. No IR, but that's not a deal breaker for me because I don't have NODS.

Brightness and battery longevity. My current goto headlamp is Browning has a gazillion lumens, strobe, multicolored. But I'm intrigued with your 3K lumen headlamp!

When I used to go caving brightness was key but in the wood or a house I almost always turn it down to a lower level. I've had petzl , coast, princton tec side winders you name it. They all have pluses and minuses. Sidewinder is hard to beat.

I have the sidewinder that i purchased about 10 yrs ago mainly on to the quality of the construction, it still functions great. Now if i can only figure out the purpose of the i.r. option, that would be great!👍

Sidewinder seems good for anyone working in the field/ on the ground in covert ops. It is down to the fact that you have a rechargable battery, but if it dies you only need a hand full of AA batteries to do you for days. The AAA headlamp seems okay for a budget option but if I was to buy one for the ground I would go Sidewinder. The thrunite would be good if you had even some red filter paper and fashioned a small fitting to slot over the lens

The fenix hp30r is a great headlamp for cold weather. The battery pack can be stowed inside your coat so the cold temps don't drain it. Also can be used to charge devices

They need to design one where it doesn't overload the eye's with light. The beam comes from the forhead area. It's pathway get's in the eye's no matter what angle you point it. Maybe they need to improve the design. Perhaps extending several inches forward from the body will keep the light's path clear of the eye's.

Great reviews Top! I’m a fan of the Petzl line, something like the Princeton lamp. I think a multi-functional lamp is more important than super high lumens, unless that’s what’s needed for a specific mission. Decent lumens and a red light are the two must have characteristics I think, especially when in a non-permissive environment. I’ll have to check out the sidewinder, I didn’t realize that they can take multiple types of batteries. I ditched a lot of my old CR123 only products as they became too costly and went to AAA stuff that can cross-load into other electronics. Keep up the Fire! Oh, and Happy Birthday!!!
