Today we are sharing three of our favorite holiday-themed recipes, from Christmas cookies to breakfast coffee cake, to an amazing showstopper Red Velvet Cake. We love making these winter desserts every year, and some of these have been in the family for generations! Yes, we've shared these before, but they're so good, that we had to post them again!
Recipes from this video:
Pecan Braid:
3/4 cup warmed milk
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3 tablespoons oil
1 egg
2 teaspoons instant yeast
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus some for dusting
1 cup raisins
*Egg for egg wash
Filling:
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup chopped pecans
4 tablespoons melted butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Icing:
3 cups powdered sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
6 tablespoon sour cream
Ginger Crinkle Cookies:
1/2 cup melted butter
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup molasses
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup, plus 2 tablespoons milk
2 teaspoons baking soda
4 teaspoons ground ginger
4 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon allspice
1/2 teaspoon ground clove
4 cups all purpose flour
Granulated sugar for rolling
Red Velvet Cake:
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 tablespoon white vinegar
1 ounce red food color/dye
1 cup buttermilk
Combine all ingredients in a stand mixer. Divide batter evenly into 3, 9-inch round cake pans. Bake for 20 minutes at 350° f or until a toothpick comes out clean and the cake begins to pull away from the side of the pan. Let the cakes cool completely before frosting is applied.
Frosting:
Step One:
2 cups milk
10 tablespoons all-purpose flour
*Combine and whisk consistently on low heat on the stove top, or in a double boiler, until a thick paste is created. Remove from heat and place in the refrigerator.
Step Two:
2 cups butter (softened)
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 cups sugar
*Cream together butter, sugar and vanilla in a stand mixer. Add in the milk/flour paste from step one. Combine thoroughly until you have a beautiful, fluffy butter frosting.
Frost the cake, decorate, and Enjoy!

Julakaga is our bread of choice. Chocolate crackle cookies. And, apple pie cupcakes. But I think we might try your pecan braid.

I’ll try the pecan bread! Looks great. I have attempted this past year to omit grabbing sugar for baking and use either honey or maple syrup because of a less processed food. I think we’d find the bread sweet enough and omit making icing. In your red velvet cake recipe I’d use farm raised outdoor pork lard. I do not allow vegetable shortening or any seed oil in our house anymore. Weston A. Price Foundation taught me a lot to improve healthiness. I like thinking of using ingredients before this evil cabal created unGodly foods for us to destroy our health. Many Holiday Blessings! ❤ Cremona from PEI, Canada.

What can you use in place of the food coloring? Beet powder? The color is gorgeous but that food coloring junk is horrible

Omg!! That Braided loaf looks soooo good!! 😍 I'm definitely making this for our Christmas!! We aren't celebrating until new years eve but definitely trying this one!! My family is already obsessed with your challah bread! Everyone always asks me to make it now!! Will this one be good to make the night before to enjoy early morning? Or should I wake up early to try and make it for the best flavor/texture? Ty for all your amazing recipes!! Everything I've tried has been a huge hit and always turns out perfect! 🥰

It's always better fresh. However, it works just fine the night before.
