Last Sunday I ran a 10 Km but mine was a bit more crowded, 18.000 runners!!! 😁😁 And because this year I've been more focused on triathlons I didn't have a 10 Km race with an official time so I started from the last box 😨😨 . Anyway the course was nice, the weather was perfect for running (about 14-16º C) and I got to ran with my mates. So all is good. IMO the best possible strategy are negative splits, so you start slower and speed up every Km (accounting for elevation, of course). I've been doing it for all distances, from 5Km to marathon and it works for me.

Nice run Brad. The map you have shown was that of the Mount half marathon . Not the city to surf. A totally different event.
