I banged on the starter and it did start turning again and started. It was able to take me home until I changed it and when the fuel pump left me stranded, I banged on it and it started working again, I was able to drive back home and change the fuel pump., also, when the Horn Quit Working I tapped it to get the dust out of it, and it started working again. Sometimes this works.

Back in the day I had a '99 Mercury Cougar and the teeth on the flywheel were wearing out and not engaging the starter. It would start eventually but got progressively worse and worse until I replaced the flywheel.

​@@SpookyscarySayge mine didn't make a noise. The first time the car died I pumped the accelerator while turning the key. 2nd time got a battery boost that lasted 30 hrs. By the 3rd time the battery didn’t take the charge but it didn't make a noise at all. Time for a new starter. hile

I have this happening to my car right now. I’ve been limping around with this bum starter since last year. Now it’s getting harder to start the car up, I guess it’s time for a new starter. 10 years on a Autozone starter is not bad.

Yes but don’t do that yet even tho it Been 1 year make sure the voltage of the battery is 12.98 if it not the battery then it the starter motor

@@yaredth9593another issue is corroded grounds. My third hand 1994 olds Ciera had a good battery, starter, and alternator but wouldn’t start. After cleaning the corrosion from the connectors it turned over.

Yep, tappin the starter works for a minute, worst starter I’ve ever replaced was on a 74 Monte Carlo with headers, had to jack the motor up to get to the starter as the headers were getting the starter to hot and prematurely burning them up, to this day I hate headers 😂

HAHAHAHAHAHA SAME SHIT WITH MY CAMRY LOL. i got off work, drove like 15 minutes to a gas station near my house to get some cheap pizza for dinner, went back to my car and tried to start it, NOTHING happened except the lights on the dash turned on but the car made no sounds... some older man comes by and bangs on the starter, 10 seconds later im driving back home :(((.

Mine has totally no noise my mechanic said it’s the ignition switch the other it’s the alternator so, Ialternators and starter changed and still won’t start??? Called TripleA work on the cable battery now it’s starting IDK what the real problem is .the other guy said although it’s running it could stop anytime on the road ….

I had bought a fancy permanent magnet planetary gear starter for my old chevy and it's a great starter but the solenoid stopped working and it's the sealed type so no entre Pierre! Guess what's back on there now, renewed and rebuilt with the original serviceable type solenoid.

Yah you can use the tire iron from trunk in some cases to tap the starter.

It's no good just replacing the starter, you need an electrician to test the ground to the starter

@@oksanabober6225 so basically if your starter is really bad like most of the times or sometimes it doesn’t start, you have to turn your keys like he showed in a video a few times until it starts. But it only works a few times until your engine dies. I ended up selling my Mercedes and buying a new car

Is it normal if you’re driving down the highway and your car just “shuts off” but the headlights and evert hyping else still works? Not sure if it’s the starter or alternator - just wanted to have some knowledge just to avoid being ripped off (had the alternator and battery and serpetine belt replaced last year from a somewhat ok shop when my car died in their gas station)

i got a 2003 f-150, exact same (sound/problem)... But there is a "starter relay/solenoid" up top by the battery (bolted to the frame)... And there is also a starter solenoid attached to the starter itself.. (-CAN I JUST REPLACE THE SOLENOID UP TOP THATS BY ITSELF...???)

Usually one click indicates starter. Multiple clicks indicates battery. That's not always the case, but those are good indicators on what to check.

Rebuild it! Genius! But first get a jump wire and test it… the fact that it starts after 100 times means ur ignition relay behind the key which is plastic and old may be the problem since u do have a new starter. So plz turn the key to ON, not start, and get ur test light, hook it on the solenoid and touch the main 12v power in post on the starter, if ur shit fires right up, don’t replace the starter, esp if u already did man. If it’s the solenoid, it’s warranted by the starter the same, but so u know, u need to know, or I’ll be testing and chasing dreams… u wanna test shit, get a 5 dollar multimeter from harbor freight and test it battery 12.6 full, 12.53/4,12/3 25%,12.2, may start a car… next go test voltage to ur starter grab any ground and touch that thick wires bolt on the starter, u need 12 there or ur doin shit… not here to debate man n I don’t post videos bcuz I’m too fuckin busy fixing shit…
