I feel bad for the hermit. The fact that he referenced chernobyl makes me feel he was afraid to stay with humanity and that's when he hid away. I'm glad he seemed to cope with being brought back into the world. It seems like he was as honest and careful as he could be. And only stole wen he had to and was not aggressive.

My brother was a deep sea diver for 10 years. He has a lot of scary stories. The worst one was when they were working on the sea floor and some equipment fell off the boat but before they could radio down to warn the divers, my brothers partner was struck, crushing his windpipe. The divers got him back to the diving bell while he was still alive but he didn’t make it. They had to wait till is was safe to depressurize with their dead buddy. My brother was never really the same after that. Deep sea divers are rockstars

Chris’s story was a roller coaster of emotions for me. It seems he had a pretty rough childhood, compounded with an already innate sense that the world as it is just isn’t really natural anymore. The way we live, the way we’re packed in on top of each other but we’re all still strangers. The 9-5, the having to pay to actually be alive, the way we often have to choose career over family just to make sure our families survive. It’s all just completely messed up and counterintuitive. He needed to get away, likely didn’t trust people to the point of fearing them because of his childhood, yet didn’t know how to survive on his own. So he ended up having to steal to survive, but never put his hunger above the safety of others, so he was empathetic to others, and showed remorse for stealing from them to survive. What a heartbreaking story. I wonder if he feels any less alone having finally rejoined society. Somehow I doubt it.

I’m genuinely curious about this case.. it couldn’t have been THAT large to have been smuggled onto a prop plane. I’m thinking, no more than 2-3 feet, 4 max.. if that. Crocodiles and alligators aren’t very agile.. I don’t see how a couple guys couldn’t have hopped over the seats to get behind it while someone keeps it distracted in front and then just jump on its back and pins it there until they safely land.

I read the book about the North Pond Hermit. It was fascinating. When he showed the cops the way to his hideout they were amazed how he moved like an animal and moved from rock to rock and swing on branches so as to not leave footprints. He stayed alive in the winters with no fire by staying awake all night constantly moving, then slept in the day when it was relatively warmer.

I love that "we are used to it" line. How do you get used to cold that extreme!!! I am cold a lot of the time, only truly warm a few months a year, spring and fall have enough chill that I am almost never without a sweatshirt or hoodie... When I walk from my car to the door on my office building I will curse things under my breath as I count every step until I get to the door - and that is in say 10 degree F. I do wear a hat, gloves, and have a multi layered winter jacket but it still gets to me. Weird thing is I was not always like this, not sure exactly when it started but it has been this way for I am thinking 5 or 6 years now??? Someone suggested that an illness that I caught traveling overseas is the reason, and I actually heard someone independently say this in a recent conversation about the same thing happening to them so perhaps... but yea, my teeth will chatter and I will shiver frequently even with the extra layers on so who knows!

I totally understand Chris. If you look at my employment history, it's terrible. I have an extremely difficult time with people and those gaps, were me disappearing into the woods. 3 months at a time, 6 months at a time, 2 years once. Just gone, by myself, into the woods. I've seen things and know things to be fact, that most people just speculate about. It's wild, tough, dangerous, intriguing, peaceful, beautiful, all rolled into one. Notice I put the worst ones first, because you better realize those three, before you start enjoying the rest. And ffs, don't feed the wildlife. Common sense.

@user-ku9xx1gw3v I've seen ghost lights, I'm not sure what else to call them, which were very bright and seemed to hover through the trees. I met people that lived along the Appalachian Trail, and both times were strange experiences. I had a Bigfoot encounter that played out over the course of several days in a fairly remote section of national forest, that no one would believe. I've tried a couple of people. It was with me from the time I left Gandy Creek until I exited the forest, which I don't remember doing. I was on my way north in a direction more or less towards Seneca Rock, the last I remembered. The details are so weird and it was so long ago, but I haven't had a prolonged trip into the forest since that time. The whole story sounds totally unbelievable and like an M. Night Shyamalan movie.
