This is the first time, I am getting the feel of what it's like to be underwater. No doubt it's a magical world, but the fear of going underwater was so real, so palpable, it felt as if I was in your place, and wanted to desperately surface and break free from this aqueous world and express the panic, which was impossible with all that mouth enclosing gear. What thoughts did you struggle with, when the most paramount thought must surely have been , that" I need to go up for air"? This was such an honest first hand experience, meltdown and all. And then , when you dared to make a second brave attempt, truly it was a triumph of the human spirit. BRAVO I shrieked in happiness .You did it. You fought back your innate fear. .Yes indeed, the silent, motionless blue world of the mighty ocean has it's rewards. Thanks so much for sharing your rich experience, and well done!

Love this so much! Brings back so many memories. Was in that area after the tsunami doing relief work. I need to go back and try to reconnect with some people. There was a young girl at the time who started helping us clean up the school to get it going again. Would love to find her and other students from that time. Can't believe it has been 17 years since I was there.

Wow, Wowsie! What a nice presentation of wonderful Sri Lanka! I was glued to the TV throughout the clip. Loved the ancient Buddhist stupa and the colorful Hindu temple. What took me by the surprise was the dive. We all dive and basically we have gloomy waters even in California compared to yours. Loved the Black Spotted Moray Eel, but have not seen one yet in it's environment. We certainly will seek out that diving outfit, if we make it over there, if ever. The Jungle Beach was very inviting and especially the wonderful meals you had there! .Thank you again for the great video. By the way you looked fine as ever. Say Hi to the cameraman!

Guys, long ago there were many theraveda buddhists who were predominantly tamil, many of them are still following buddhists and adopted sinhalese as their mother tongue. If you look at many parts of sri lanka, the tamilians are mix with sinhalese and become part of the majority community. That's why the north-eastern tamils especially the northern parts are still reluctant to have sinhalese occupying their lands as the tamil language and peiple would eventually diminish. Thats why the tamils supported the LTTE to resist the sinhalese colonization and forcefully take away privately owned lands. But now since the end of LTTE, the land grabs, colonization of sinhalese, building buddgist statue and military occupation are takimg place in fasf pace, if this behavior goes on like this the island will be full of buddhists sinhalese only. We must respect and learn from our past mistakes in discrimination of minority communities and unite sri lanka as a one and work hard to uplift the country from slowly shiftimg away to China as corrupted politicians allowing China to enter and establish. We don't want another colonization. You know what will happen if we can't pay their debt, China will own the island 99yrs, you think China would just leave after 100yrs, they would reproduce like crazy and become they majority community of sri lanka and take over the island. Let's not make any more mistake allowimg our Chinese controlled politicians to fall in the debt trap any more. Say no to Rajapakse family government.

Yes,veddas or tribal comunities on the island such as deva,raksha,naga and yakka were the first inhabitants of the island.. then came the sinhalese.. these sinhalese mixed with these tribal people.. to this day you can find sinhalese from these early traditions like the god saman who is belive to have deva tribe roots and you can find a caste called deva among sinhalese.. And the most important part is vedda language is a creol of old/medieval sinhala proving sinhalese ancestors first connected with them but not tamils..

The correct pranunciation is Siri Handu (සිරි හදු) Stupa. Siri means the name of the Buddha ( that is how people addressed Buddha at that time. For example, Siri Sath Dahama සිරි සත් දහම, Siri Maha Bodhi සිරි මහා බෝධි, Siri Pada සිරි පාද). Handu (හදු) means hair in Magadee (මාගධී) language.
