Hi Steve, I have been watching your posts for many hours to catch up on them, your little Fergie brings back many memories for me as I learned to drive them at the age of 13 & progressed to the 35's as they came to the farm new to replace the little fergie's, that was about 60 years ago. keep up the good work & many thanks for your efforts.

Steve I think the main reason the little grey Fergies (TEA 20s and the like) tipped over so easily is due to the habit of hooking the snig chain to the top link point above the diff. They were too light in the front end to start with as you suggested but combine that with the hitch being high above the axles and ace over base you go. Their gearing was a little too high as well so everything happens too dam quick. They had a dam good reputation along the Murray in flood times though as they saved many towns and properties but especially the town of Wentworth NSW from the flood back in 56. They have even memorialised them in the Town Garden right beside the junction of the Darling and the Murray River in Wentworth. Mind you, I'm sticking with my Zetor 6945. Wouldn't mind another Zetor as well though. Ya can never have too many tractors, can you Steve. Cheers mate.
@stevesplacedownunder
@stevesplacedownunder 4 ай бұрын
Hi Bruce. Yes mate that’s right about pulling to high. The front is incredibly light. And as you say they are geared where it all happens so quickly. I wasn’t aware of the reputation they had on the Murray. That is very interesting indeed. I guess they had their place mate and they certainly did the job in the flood by the sounds of it. I have 3 Zetors here, the one we use I love. Thanks for sharing mate

Great video Steve, hope you're all feeling better now. Fergys are very popular in the UK, but prices have more than doubled in the last few years. It is worth saving all good tin ware. Just a thought, maybe if you did a quick restoration of the 3 Zetors, they would make a great display on your trailer at shows. Please try and save the Austin and Bedford J as they make good display trucks. Wish I could afford to ship them to the UK. I'm looking forward to the Albian video. The best truck you have, lol. I see all the old trucks on TV programmes like opal hunters and wish they could be saved. Take care my friend
@stevesplacedownunder

Thanks Stuart I am getting there. I will eventually get the Fergie going, but not a priority at this stage. Not a lot of people over here seem very keen on the zetor tractors. I don’t know I’ve ever seen one at a show. The Austin and Bedford have been advertised but with no interest. Cabs on both are completely shot. I will do a start up on them but I’d say they will eventually be scrapped. I have no interest in them in the condition they are in. Albion video coming up soon

@@stevesplacedownunder These tractors sometimes had a tendency to jam the gearbox - two gears were engaged at once. And then there's a problem with changing gears with the lever - I suspect this is also the case in your Zetorek. I really like this version. For Europe they were a bit different.

Be entertaining to find something the old Lantz would not run on. They seem to regard almost anything as fuel, including creosote. Oddly economical because although they use a fair bit of fuel per hour, that fuel might be dirt cheap or even rejected for use by anything else, possibly even a Marshall. The little Fergies or Ford Fergies were the first to introduce the 3 point concept. Newer stuff may well do it better or safer, but it was the ground breaker. On the market at the same time as the Lantz and the Marshall......
