@akelly420724 күн бұрын
Neville’s entire story was worse to me. He grew up with a strict relative that put him down and berated him, that he feared. His parents were insane. But he still had to visit them knowing they would never know him, never be the parents he needed. He had people look down on him for being a squib (as they thought him) and various people doing horrible things like throwing him out of windows to force magic from him. He was bullied, he had no friends yet when The main 3 were gone he led the DA during a dangerous time and killed Nagini by himself. He was never given the praise Harry was yet Harry, Hermione and Ron went looking to involve themselves in dangerous plans without asking for help or letting others know most of the time.

Regarding Pettigrew's death, if you recall back to when Voldemort had given him his silver hand, he said the following after: "May your loyalty never again waver, Wormtail." When Harry used the cruciatus curse, it was when the Carrows' went to attack McGonagall. I think that really made an affect on Harry - it's not a darker trait per se, but more from protecting a maternal figure who has protected Harry for many years. The enjoyment of doing it, like with Bellatrix, is what makes it dark. There is an element of human Psyche that they do things that are perceived dark out of love or protection of a person or thing. I mean, who hasn't thought 'I'd kill anyone who'd hurt my mum/child/beloved pet'?

It really speaks to how loving Molly is that her greatest fear is the death of her family. Most people who face a Boggart in the Harry Potter series has it take on a fear that affects only them. Ron's afraid of spiders, Neville's afraid of Snape, Lupin's afraid of the full moon (one could argue that Lupin was afraid of what he'd do as a werewolf, but in that instance, I would think the Boggart would take on his werewolf appearance) and Harry's afraid of fear itself (the loss of his courage). Molly's fear, on the other hand, was for the sake of others. Also, Molly's fears create a feeling of despair rather than terror. She doesn't flee or cower. She succumbs to hopelessness. @porfiriodiazcarrillo75514 ай бұрын
the even darkest parts is that Greyback was gaycoded, so he being a predator, specially for children, is even more disturbing and hurtfull. also the fact that the werewolf virus was based on HIV, something that JKR has comfirmed herself. the fact that the Deadthly Hollows`s simbol was the wizarding world`s zwastika; that was the reason Krumb lashed out on Mr Lovegood at BIll and Fleur`s wedding. and then complitly brushed off when Dumbledore made Harry choose between becomin a thyrant worse than Voldemort or keep the status quo. the fact that nothing changed after Voldemort`s defeat. everything went to normal, just with out the potential treath of an evil uprising. there still exist class divide, house elves`s slavery and goverment corruption. the crimes of the elite deatheaters were unpunished. there were little to no consequences for the Malfoy family, at all.
@Aufsammelkabbler4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that in the end not much changed is one of the darkest and more realistic parts of the story. I like happy endings as much as anyone else but oftentimes it seems contrived that every injustice is resolved and from now on there is no more discrimination, hatred and corruption in the world. That is not how societies work. If for example the house elves were a big player in voldemorts defeat and tried to leverage this earned respect and goodwill to better their position it could be possible that for example their situation would have changed. Is that in line with what we know what the house elves would most likely do in such an scenario? Definitely not. It is also quite likely that Voldemorts second rise to power even worsened the racism against Werewolves and giants for example since again, some of them fought for the dark lord. It wouldn‘t be realistic that suddenly all the racism vanished and would in my opinion even disregard the actual hard fights activists and human rights movements endured in our world, which makes it shallow at best. As a side note: the werewolf curse in Harry potter is really not different in what it does to what you would expect from 99% of fantasy novels. I do not think that it is wise to throw all forms of infectious curses or infectious evil entities under the „This is an HIV allegory and therefore problematic“ bus. This lashing out just provokes simple fans of the genre to see themselves or things they love as under attack.

You failed to mention that the reason Harry was able to use the Cruciatus curse the second time is because Amycus spat in the face of Mcgonagall. Someone Harry had a massive amount of respect for. I feel it’s needed, as I don’t agree it shows a “dark” side of him as you put it, making him sound slightly evil beneath the surface. What he showed is in all humans
@TedBarton91Ай бұрын
Also, aside from all the reasons you gave, I feel the main cause of Barty Jrs insanity is the fact that he was mental. Cmon, some people are just that way I did really enjoy the video, don’t let my pedantry fool you 😂

You say these were cut to maintain the PG rating, but to be fair none were really necessary to the plot overall. It was clearly much more of a lack of time issue

Heh... I misunderstood the Pettigrew's death while reading the books. I was left with the impression that his hand turned on him, because Harry had saved his life, and now he was trying to kill Harry. But instead, it was turning on him, because he HESITATED to kill Harry (because of the debt)?

I don't think that particular part was meant to show Harry has evil in him. It's meant to show the lengths he's willing to go to in order to protect the people he cares about

If they do the TV version right, they'll make them hour-long episodes and twelve episode seasons, with each season covering a book. That should be more than enough time to properly cover everything. And if they are **really** thinking ahead, each season will be filmed over the course of a school year, and released over the summer, to properly maintain actor age continuity, and also make sure the scores of child actors they'll be working with are bringing their A game, instead of trying to rush them through filming.

I definitely dont agree Fred and George locking him in the vanishing cabinet amounted to torture. I notice that when the "good guys" do something harsh but justified the general public comes down extremely hard on the character. When Dumbledore "requires" Snape's allegiance to protect Lily with the Fidelius Charm, people call Dumbledore manipulative. It's actually striking

Honestly, Rita deserved to be in a jar considering all the lies she wrote. Also, I like that the good characters have some dark moments because it shows they’re human too and have negative strong emotions that are hard to overcome. It's nice to see them overcome them at some point and still choose to the right thing.

It's been years since I've read the books, so I'm rereading them on Chamber of Secrets. But the fact that they changed Harry's character so much makes me mad, as a writer. I wonder how JKR felt. Because Harry seems so human. I get he's supposed to be the MC and light of the world in midst of darkness yada yada, but they took away that he's so human, to be able to be angry, he should be frustrated and angry, he had his childhood taken from him and his parents and the godfather. I'd be pissed at the world too!

The reason Ron summoned the brains towards him was actually because he'd been hit by dark curse which made black blood tickle out of his mouth and nose. Follow by a confondus spell. Some people take this scene out of context and use it to demonstrate their 'theory' of how Ron was too stupid or entirely unnecessary part of the trio. Honestly!

Lets see the cabinet. if i remember correctly the cabinet was broken afther the twins pushed him inside by the poltergist droping it (headless nick convinced him to do it and the reason why nick did it was to distract ubridge and the cartaker because she was attempting to use the truth serum on him, this was not known but nick knew harry had not done anything and wanted to get him out of that room and was probably aware what she had been doing while dumbledoor was stil at the school and was afraid what she might do to harry with dumbldedoor no longer at the school. the inquisitor thingy was revealed the morning or later in the day the day afther dumbledoor was forced to leave the school and the twins said they pushed the guy inside and the cabinet would have been destroyed afther that unless i remember wrongly.

7:31 I think you're adding meaning to the text to m make it more palatable to you. The text talks about "meaning it", so focused intent or something like that. There's no mention of enjoyment there. They're seems to me to be an add-on attempt at simplification of the moral associated with the act. One doesn't need to enjoy an act in order to intend it.

It's quite disturbing what "a step too far" is for people. 10 years of imperio is bad but Azkaban is okay? Another thing JKR managed to get away with because most people to stop a second to think about and analyze the media we consume. It's a literal torture site with no hope of ever getting out, as far as we know. It represents the first aspect of the current justice system and what it does to our common understanding of justice and each other, making us justify that a broken system that only ever manages to hurt and kill people away from our eyes and concern, is the best type of justice we collectively could come up with. 🤦🏿
