I'm really liking your Grand Canyon coverage. I've been there quite a few times, but not since I outfitted my campervan. I didn't realize how much dispersed camper they have. I guess I'll have to take another trip out to camp a while. I took the half raft trip through the canyon in the early 70's. We hiked down the Kaibab trail across the bridge to catch the raft out the west side. I think that's they way to do it if you want some hiking in the canyon without having to hike all the way back out. The last half has the best rapids and the Havasupai Falls area. It was a lifetime experience.

Hey Russ, this video brings back a major Grand Canyon memory for me. At around 5:50 you can see the trail out to Plateau Point in the center of the screen...back in the mid-90s I did a day hike out to the viewpoint. When I got out there a big thunderstorm rolled in. I started to hightail it back to the rim as the storm picked up with thunder, lighting, rain and hail. There was water running down the middle of the trail like a creek...I just kept my head down and kept hiking. By the time I got to to the top the storm had passed but the ground was practically covered with hail. My brother met me at the trailhead and after a shower and change of clothes we celebrated my survival with a steak dinner at the El Tovar. Good(?) times!

Nice to know about the 14 day free camping options near to the park. We've already made some reservations at the Mather Campground for later this summer for two nights. With the Senior Lifetime NPS card, it was $9 per night for dry camping. Still a pretty good bargain for these days. We'll definitely be checking out that Yavapai Point- thanks for sharing!

Thanks Russ for taking us along to yet another place of beauty here in the United States. There is so much beauty here that I for one have no desire to travel to a foreign country. I have been to the Grand Canyon in years gone by and found the South Rim better than the North Rim. It is less crowded and the views are just as majestic. Be safe my friend!

A good choice for a great view into the Grand Canyon! My favorite view into the canyon was on one of my trips to the area; after touring the north rim, I car camped for one night at Tuweep. The view from my camp site at sunset was unbelievable! The neon colors on the inner walls were otherworldly - shades of pink, orange, violet and blue. The colors seemed to glow from within! I'm not sure if the drive in (55 miles?) on the unpaved road would be doable in your van but the payoff is incredible! Thanks for another Arizona masterpiece.

Thanks once again for sharing you travels. The grand canyon is sure something to see. The last time we were there we went to the north rim, I liked it even better, very few people go there cause winter comes earlier there. We went in November and spent the day just wandering around, our lunch watched the squirrels , perfect say.

Thanks Russ! Great videos of the Grand Canyon. I've had the good fortune to get there twice. (October- nice weather but very crowded, years later in January- empty, but cold, no snow) I tell everyone that it's worth whatever it takes to spend a day there and that they will not be disappointed. Thank you so much for familiarizing us with all this pertinent information. I've been to the Grand Canyon but didn't know any of this. Similarly with some other areas . I bought a van a year ago and altho i have been vety adventurous in other aspects in my life for some reason i find taking off alone in a van which isn't outfitted on the one hand (and gas prices and covid hasn't helped) a bit daunting.

I once took a helicopter ride that was not too expensive--- it was part of a one-week package from Elderhostel that was included-- only about a 7-minute trip from someplace west of Peach Springs that took us down to a boat ride, run by the Hualapai out to Pearce Ferry where our bus picked us up and took us to Kingman(?) Wonder if they still offer that trip.
