I've been using the Dark Devourer since your Behemoth video, and never looked back. Thanks for all your detailed info! I actually got my first win against Behemoth a couple weeks ago, and had no problem taking down the Ancient Leshen and AT Teostra with it as well. HBGs are amazing for Kirin too. I often help Low Ranks with Kirin (or the 2x Tempered Kirin quest) because it's so much fun blowing that horse up from afar and I know how much that fight sucks when you're a lower level.

Out of topic here, and I don't know where to comment this, so I'll just comment here since this is your latest video Thanks to you, I'm now using the HBG, Dark Devourer specifically. I am still an IG main, with the Gunlance as my secondary, but using the HBG feels good to just feel what a real hunt is like. Last night, AT Lunastra came to pc, and immediately I joined the fray of randoms to complete the armor set. Despite the usual Sticky build that is totally weak to fire (Fire Defense is only 5 with Fire Res jewels!), it was so awesome to be at the back of the fray and doing KOs left, right, and center. It was so awesome in fact, that I managed to deal 6-7 KOs per hunt. Your guides on bowguns helped me understood them inside and out. In fact, it was thanks to you that I had my first HBG, the Dark Devourer, and just did sticky for the time being. But I now have a solid pierce and a decent spread build respectively since then. Thank you. I am sure that this guide will us pc players once we get AT Zorah and AT Xeno.

Tarroth Assault Water isn't over Taroth Assault Support imo. That extra 7 raw isn't worth sacrificing the large decoration slot the Support comes with and the built-in Critical Element on the Water doesn't come into play at all when using pierce ammo.

Love Spare Shot, especially with the ammo types you can only carry a few of. Shield mod also gets pretty useful when your solo and have no one else to take aggro

Just wanted to say the head is definitely worth it because while the skills arent the best, it has has great Deco options. I use pierce on KT and get great damage. We just prioritize tenderizing the arms and chest and head. Then, nothing but beautiful crits light up in rapid succession

Yeah, it's worth it. Even with FreeEle/AmmoUp Lvl 3 (clip size of 8 for the Glutton) RazorSharp/SpareShot still nets you about a 5% dps increase with the potential of a LOT more if you get really lucky. It can also help you to keep your stagger chain going without losing dps if you are smart about your reload or just lucky. Furthermore you don't really lose much by putting them on.

Found a small error. In the general pierce build you have a shield deco for guard up, but no shield mod on the bowgun. You use recoil and 2x ranged 2 instead. Great guid though. Helped me tweak my pierce build.

I have all those kulve tarroth guns and I wasn't even trying to farm for them, until I started looking up HBG guides for Ancient leshen I didn't even know what I had. The winning strategy I developed for AL with Randos is hot swapping to a different HBG between each encounter. Glutton at phase 1 one of the anjanath base tarroth HBGs that has a huge selection of ammo types I get my poison, paralyze, and fire ammo but it also has OK sticky, Slicer and and cluster ammo, in phases 2 and 4 this means I get more knockdowns and better crowd control and the slicer ammo helps when he is teleporting frequently because it helps randoms find him sooner, phase 3 I go back to glutton for DPS. Great list, great guides. would love to know your current LBG tier list, I have a bunch of these from Kulve too and I have no clue what is good.

Half a decade later, decide to replay this wonderful game on pc, and try HBG. its weird that, I progress with bone shooter to play with spread/wyvern, and then upgraded into diablo tree (griffon blazooka). I miss the spread playstyle, so I build iron assault (normal/piercing), to get nergigante tree (destruction fusillade). item design is weird XD

In truth, there is only a Top3 HBGs: 1 Dark Devourer 2 Taroth Assault Glutton 3 Magda Gemitus II There are a few other nice but situational HBGs, but none compare to those 3,imo.

I disagree, none of these bowguns are really that good for fighting one of the most relevant monster in world, AT kulve. And I prefer Horn for Ancient leshen. And especially for bowgun users you need a way to defeat AT Xeno, with your safest option being pierce.

the one ranged atk and close range atk for pierce works out better than 2 ranged atk up. The reason behind this is that many times you are closer to the target than you really think you are.... you know cause it wants to kill you 'o.O anyways so what happens is that the close range activates for the first half of the shot then as the bullet gets to the end of the monsters body the long range activates.

I don't really use sticky, but it irks me that the Kjarr Assault Magma lacks the sticky. It still feels good to use and can carry more cluster ammo while also having innate critical status. The Kjarr Magma can paralyze quickly as hell through crit status and still use spare shot from Xeno'Jiiva to effectively get out many extra shots before reloading. Still, with sticky. I know it would get an insane amount of play. It might still be good, bit that depends on the paralysis thresholds I have no idea about

So where does the kjarr magma fit in? It's very similar to the magdha gemitis except it cant use flaming shot or sticky ammo but the magma has access to para, sleep, poison level 1 as well as the level 2 ammos, and it has access to slicing ammo as well as having 10% positive affinity out the box. The only other downside is the fact that it only has 1 augment slot compared to the magdha gemitus 2 augments. I feel like the thing is you can use your other non explosive ammo on the magma since you have positive affinity out the box and you also gain access to lvl 1 status ailment ammo and on top of that the kjarr magma has crit status on the gun so that makes the status even better. It's so up in the air and I dont know which one to consider better...

Question, for the dark devourer is it worthwhile swapping out the artillery charm for the attack charm if you have artillery jewels?, .2 which is more viable skill to use dark devour:slugger/peak performance? And 3. Is it worthwhile running two attack augments with the dark devour ?(i was and desperate and mad for attack jewels and still havvent got one after over 500 hrs so pls dont hunt me.)

I believe he posted a build video for Dark devourer. Most run health aug vs attack simply because you are hit so often with it. PP is good as long as your good at not getting hit or just run Shield mod with guard up helps as well WHILE slugger is good if you are doing a stick ammo build (look up AT kushala Daora he has a build that does that). If you have the artillery gems i would use them and you run attack or crit charm. You can get currently in the game 2 free attack charms one from early in the main story and another from the witcher collab having pukei pukei be your PIC lol. Maximum might is another good option since you hardly ever run low on stam unless you rolll ALOT lol. Hope this helps!

Double health is much better for Devourer as HBG's have very slow sheaths making it hard to heal. It makes fights much less stressful. Also don't do what that other guy said. Crit skills do not apply to explosive damage. As for Peak vs Slugger, that's up to you, but in multiplayer I doubt Slugger will help a lot, but in offline it's quite good.

Health for sure, sticky, wyvern and cluster recover a fair deal of health, affinity is usless and I'm quite sure since this one already has very high raw the damage augment will only slightly increase it's damage, not enough to be noticeable.

The only fun style of HBG for me is Wyvernsnipe. A weapon has to have a something that you look forward to using for me to want to play it. Wyvernsnipe just feels so good. Its a shame clusters are still broken.

I too find Wyvernsnipe impossible to resist using. Wyvernheart just sucks. They shouldn't have given it that mechanic of ramping up damage until you miss a SINGLE BULLET...

Try a sticky build on Kirin. It's actually pretty hilarious how easy it makes the fight. That poor horse will spend 90% of the entire fight just lying on her side because of the endless KOs into more KOs.

Thankfully I was able to finish AT Xeno completely solo using your lbg solo build with the fire and freeze ammo. Still learning to use heavy bowguns as the play is so different from the light bowguns

I just realised that cluster bombs should not be aimed at the head at all because there is no benefit in DPS. I want that Ciri armour for bowguns, but 4 Ancient Leshen kills was not enough for me.

Yes, Clusters count as explosive damage. So you can aim for the ends of the wings to avoid your teammates on a knockdown

Dude the element ammo doesn’t effect non elemental boost, it’s the weapon itself that counts not the ammo if it’s a bowgun, if the weapon in general has no element then the non elemental boost will effect it, even if the bowgun has element ammo

nice video! but the thing about wyvern snipe against KT is just super wrong and NOT good, because all damage that happens "inside" of kulves body (and not on her breakable parts) is not contributing to anything. i dont say that the blazooka is not good on KT or anything, its just the snipe through the length of her body. there are a lot of guides to kulve where they explain how she works and what you need to do.

It's very close to the Taroth Horn, but it lacks elementless, so the question is if one more shot of spread makes up for that. It also has lower damage on its Wyvernheart and Wyvern ammo.

I realized that i was almost exclusively using the dark devourer to fight high tier monsters. I think i've actually gotten worse at the game just using cluster builds on hightier monsters

I use kjarr assault spark.. slicing sticky thunder sleep and paralysis and high clips for all.. and why don't ppl use agitator. It's by far the most powerful skill in the game.. 3flawless and 4 challenger give you a additional 36 attack you combine that with attack boost monsters stumble easy AF.. this is why I learned how to build.. I'm getting 60 over all attack and thats before food or drugs or a horn.. turning a heavy bow gun with 330 dam to over 500

Slash ammo builds absolutely murder Kirin, AT Kirin is easy with a slash ammo build. High affinity and attack WE. I use Drachen armor for it and it really is easy to handle. It completely ignores all phases and does a set damage per shot. You will need to go to camp at leat 1 time during a solo run to resupply ammo.
